Every time I try to download the new version I get the error message -

The Compressed (Zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted

Anyone else having this problem, or maybe know why this is? ???

Has anyone perused the google globe for any airplanes that were in the air or ships at sea when the pics were taken?

I happened to be looking at San Francisco and noticed an airplane taking off. It\'s probably 50-100 feet off the ground and has a distinct shadow - very cool picture.
Lots of boats under the Golden Gate bridge as well and if you look close you can make out the cannon turret on the Presidio.

I have downloaded it yesterday and everything was ok.
You can try:
- download it on your desktop before open it (use \"save as\" in the request window instead of \"open\")
- disable all download accellerator software if you have installed them
- upgrade your software (i can recommend TugZip a freeware tool that can manage almost all compressions types - www.tugzip.com)

If you still have some problems PM me and I will mail you my copy. :D

I\'ve tried several different methods... I\'m going to try tonight again on my son\'s computer. I just rebuilt it so it\'s the best in the house right now. I can run Google Earth just fine, it\'s only the zipped folder I\'m having trouble with. If I can\'t get it running on his, I may just take you up on your offer Paolo. Thanks - mark

Margo,
That\'s a nice looking neighborhood. That\'s not where your avatar shows up is it? Because that area is blurry green.

By the way, Moscow is some weird city.
What are all those glowing white crystaline \"fortress-of-solitude\"-looking buildings? They are all over the place!

[edit] oh, I just looked at Paris (where is the eiffel tower?) and looking at the Louvre I can say that IM Pei\'s work looks even crappier from above.

It made me pretty giddy to find Alcatraz...I kept putting my pointer on there and then saying (in my best Sean Connery voice)

\"Welcome to the Rock\"...

Actually, I\'ve had quite fun looking for famous landmarks. The problem is if you don\'t know where to look, its downright impossible....Is there a way you can just type in the place you want to go and look?

Here are some I\'ve found and are worth looking for...

The Arch in St. Louis.
The Golden Gate Bridge
Mount Rushmore
The Washington Monument
The Effel Tower in Paris
The Arc D\' Triumph
The Statue of Liberty.

There are others that I looked for, but didn\'t know where to look...

The Kremlin
Big Ben
That Huge Ferris Wheel in London
The World Trade Center Twin Towers site
Area 51
The Hollywood sign

Also, is there a place where you can enter coordinates?

@Markus I dumped the .kmz file directly on the server and hardlinked it. Some browser do not recognize .kmz as a downloadable format. I use Firefox (The BEST one. :D ) I also offer emailing the file to anyone who cant download it.

That whitestuff are insects that got squashed against that satellites telescope lenses. lol

@ vike It is very difficult to find landmarks, I am still looking for Mount everest, and cant find the silly bugger... you can use search in the top left for citys and states but not for landmarks or rivers or roads.
EDIT: You can use it for coordinates tho. Just type in 54°11\'13.56\"N, 32°12\'54.50\"W or simpler 54°N, 34°W for instance. EDIT

@vincegamer: I\'m not sure I got your meaning right about those weird glowing buildings, but if I understand you correctly, you mean those white spots of glow with torn edges on buildings? If that\'s what you mean, it\'s the places where there were some errors with the picture or the details are missing :) Or did you mean something else?

@supervike: here\'s Kremlin for you :)

Oh and Big Ben as well, you can actually see it on the left bank, left side of the bridge, tall thing casting a shadow :)

@Margo: Yes we share locations and I compile them into the aforementioned file for the desktop version of Googleearth. I have found your neighborhood and put your avatar there. ;)

@philo seems you live a bit out in the green now.
@Molebrain. You\'re in. On location.
Hey Supervike once you find/have found those cool places post their Locs. Then us geographicalnutcases can go look at these cool things too. :flip:

@Margo....You are a wonderful virtual tour guide!!

The Kremlin is great. I used another website with a visual guide to tell me which buildings were which. Very incredible.....Is Red Square in the Kremlin? They made reference to it, but I\'m not sure.

I think I see Big Ben, but I also see the huge Ferris Wheel on the opposite side of the river..(is that the Thames?)

I don\'t know why this amuses me so much...It just seems to make the world a much smaller place...lol

My pleasure, Jim! :)

To continue the tour ... Red Square is that big blank rectangle in the upper right corner of the page. The tiny red square in the middle of one side is Lenin Mausoleum (uh-huh, no kidding). And if you drag the page down to the right a little, you\'ll see a concentration of colorful blobs -- that\'s the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, known as the \"Russian cathedral\" to the foreigners :) The tiny circle of a Bleached Bone color is yet another, ahem, historical monument -- a stone platform where criminals were executed in Tsarist times.

... As for London, yep, the river is Thames and that wheel is the Eye of London. Been there, the view is amazing!

@Margo
I was making a bit of a joke. For some reason Moscow is filled with these white rough-edged bits that look to me like huge crystal towers. They are probably errors or deletions in the photos yet for some reason I haven\'t seen them in any other city.

@Vike I\'m glad I\'m not the only one looking for monuments.
Here\'s what\'s been stumping me:
They always say the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from space. Well I sure as heck can\'t see it on any of these photos. While putting on the 3D and soaring over the mountains of China is fun, it\'s frustrating that I see no sign of the Wall.

-From your list I haven\'t seen the Eiffel Tower, the St. Louis Arch, or Mt Rushmore.
-I have seen the twin towers site.
-Off your list I\'ve seen the Great Pyramid at Gaza, the Bacillica of St. Peter in Rome, and the Louvre (medieval style building with ugly glass pyramid stuck in the center).

@Etherion - I\'ll start noting the longitude and latitude when I see something interesting if someone else wants to host a list.
Or, we could start a new thread called Google Earth Tourism
Each entry must be the name of a cite and its coordinates.

[edit] Vike- if you look somewhere else then type \"new york city, NY\" google will fly you over and zoom in to a spot 4-5 blocks NE of the Twin Tower site. It\'s the fairly obvious hole in the city. Also, if you turn \"buildings\" on you will see all the skyscrapers and then one block that has nothing on it. (coord. 40:42:42N 70:00:48W)

Oh, ok, then I understood you correctly :) The quality of pictures of Moscow is very high and precise, so I guess no wonder they\'ve left some buildings, erm, in a glowing state :))
