I use it to check how strong my glazes are before I put them on a mini or if I'm already holding the mini in one hand and accidentally overload my brush I wipe some excess off on my thumb, it's mainly laziness on my part, it's easier than putting the mini down :p

Nice thread. Just found it,.. (not sure how I missed it,..) I must be the only painter I know who doesn't paint my thumb as I go. It's something that I see in almost everyone else's thread. Is there some purpose to this that I've been missing all these years?

I use it to wipe off excess paint before applying the brush to the mini. Could just as well use some paper towel but the thumb is closer :D And I can "feel" when I think the consitency/moisture is right. I also lick my bush way too much.. So that is another habit..

Worked further on the orc. Not entierly sure I like the blue color. Might be that I am used to seeing orcs green or orangish.

Added more highlight (and decided to try the more cold approach (adding ivory instead of skin color) might add some skincolor to the basetone and use it as tonal variations too add a bit of green to it all. (aka blue + yellow skin = greenish).

My fear is that it will turn to warm and I am trying to paint it in cold colors.

the flying squib is a great idea and looks good so far. i will be interested to see this progress.

Look forward to painting him too. Still thinking about the color scheme for him but it properly be the next after the orc.

I painted my first eyes on something larger than 32mm today! (and my 3rd eyes ever) (p.s. sorry for the bad photograph)

I tried to work around with some ideas where to take this further. I thought about a fire like the one on Romans version but a bit different. I also tried to mockup some red blood into it and warpaint.

Still not sure what direction to take it. (PLEASE NOTE THAT BELOW IMAGE IS A PHOTOSHOP MOCKUP with the original in the middle!)

The dot warpaint doesn't show very well in the pictures. I like the blue better than the green. May want to get some complementary color in the shadows to add interest. Something like a orange brown.

Some me blood would be nice, but looks like overkill in the mock up. Something like a surface cut with blood weeping out of it could be cool.

I like the warpaint on the wp+blood one on the right, but I prefer the cold blue skin better, maybe that kind of warpaint in silvery white, I also like the osl type effect of the orange n the top middle one, if you went with that you could think of it as moon light by a fire so one sight goes to pale blue/white highlights and the other with warm fire-lit look

Thanks for the comments. Really nice with some input. I am working on with the blue and think I will use a bit of the orange in the shadow - without it getting too warm. And in the end I will add a tiny amount of blood to his scratches. Keeping it simple and getting it finished.. saving the OSL for some time later :D

Worked a bit on the base for my pilot and tried a bunch of stuff out. Tried the AK worn effects and my new rust paints. Think it turned out rather well albeit a bit too dark.

I think it's turned out well, the darkness of it might not necessarily be a bad thing, it could help it sink into the background to keep focus on the figure

Started my new job so time for painting have been sparse.. But I have been getting something done.

Worked on the pilot - finished the jacket, scarf and pants (except for last cleanup) and started on the face. However I had a really hard time on the face and I redid the eyes about 10 times, leaving the final result a bit wierd - Simply cant get the eyes right.... Any tips much appriciated at this scale..

The skin looks really pale in the images. In real life it is a bit less pale but I plan to use glazes to make it even less pale.
