You can do a pigment wash just use more fixer it will act like water diluting paint. This way you can control how heavy it is and add more pig as you go. Use a red brown color Sierra things like that . You can also think about putting these same thinned pig washes in the recesses where the black lining is around the knee joints etc. Weathering builds up in cracks especially cause it’s where it’s deposited. Something to think bout. REM extremely thin likes and small nicks are much more realistic to the human eye.

Yeah, I'm happy with my progress BloodASmedium. I just wonder where I would be with my painting if I did not lose interest in painting temporarily during 2016 - I did not pick up a brush for the entire year.
Back to the marine - based, pigmented and done. Base and pigments were done in the same manner as the actual paintjob - quickly. That was the focus point with this mini - speed ;) I'm very happy with the effect for the time spend.

The marine looks bad ass. Nice job

can fully relate on the wishing breaks had not happened , I’ve had a fair few long ones over the last few years and also wonder what it would be like if I didn’t have them.

guess I’ll never know, the plan is to just try to have no more

Long time without updates, another couple of weeks with a sick kid that I rarely got a chance to paint. I started to work on Yvraine, worked for 5-6 hours on her dress and the result was awful so I decided to start from scratch. I didn't feel like working on her so instead I painted two models in a couple of evenings without trying to paint perfectly.
The marine is not yet finished, but I think I found a sweet spot with weathering, I overdid it on the previous one but on this one I'm really happy with it.

Finally! Progress on Yvraine! Woohoo! And it only took three complete resets before I was finally happy with the result! :D
There are some blends that still need fixing, but hey, it's a WIP ;)

Thanks guys! I'm finally getting a hang of how to approach blending, I guess that lessons with Giovanni di Lena are paying off. ;)
In the meantime I based my Ultrasmurf. :)

The marine looks great. Weathering is spot on and nice work on the base.

the current model is looking great so far. Love the colour for the skirt

OK - more or less finished (minus her cat and the base, which I will finish later).
Had a lot of trouble with this one. I've repainted the dress three times, broke her feathery crown like five times during painting, at one time the entire mini fell from my hands straight into wet palette full of paint, etc.
I tried a lot of new techniques which did not pan out exactly as expected, but I decided not to try and fix every little mistake that can be seen only on photograph. It's time for me to move on to a new project. :)

For all the issues you said you had with her, you absolutely cannot tell. She’s painted really well, lovely contrast on the dress in particular. I really like the colour choices as well. Awesome stuff, just knock it out the park with the cat and base now!
