Armornv just an idea but the base could be standing on a tall pile of limbs and bodies...bad idea?

Actualluy a very cool idea! But! I want to keep things relatively tame this time around. I'm a lousy painter overall and don't think I'm quite ready to attempt guts 'n gore or dead bodies just yet. Def will keep that one in the noggin for da futcha tho!

Well... there even was a whole episode of Southpark about not reading disclaimers, and the effects thereof. I must admit I'm still found wanting in that department. :D

Yay! It's all one color now!!! "Should" be nice and red by the end of Sunday. Upon first inspection, I do see one or two spots that need attention but the primer is still wet so I can't give it a real good look yet. Vallejo's model air gray primer is a bit darker than what I'm used to in a primer which may not be a good choice to spray red over, but I guess there is only one way to find out! I would take some pics, but as I said, the primer is still wet. Plus, Nothing has chaged on him other than being a single color. So I will spare you all this time. :)

Ok, here's my next update. It will get annoying by the end because I think I have a lot of questions so bare with me.
Just like I planned, it was red by the end of Sunday....VERY VERY RED........ Like, HOLY SH*T THAT'S RED!!!! Far too red, but that will change with shading and painting the trim, and the cloth and straps and such. Now, the pics make it look a tad pinkish.(to me anyways) but I assure you, it is red. The pics also make it look like it has almost no shading. While there is shading present, I think it's going to need much much more.
I was thinking that a larger scale figure would need less shading with paint becuase the light would be able to fall slightly more realistcally than it would on say a 28mm. Is that thought correct at all? I realize I will still need to do a fair amount of shading with the paint, but I just thought I wouldn't need to go to quite the "extreme" you would with a "mini" I think my highlights are about where I want them. I just need to deeper(color wise) with my shadows.

The intensity should calm down once there is less red and once I start putting some filters and washes and such. Like I said earlier, I'm approaching this more like a tank model than a figure. Weathering usually always darkens whats under it. that's one of the reasons I went that bright.

Question on the base.... I actually wish I had one a little bit bigger than this, but the next biggest is rectangle, and far too big for this guy alone. So, do you think this base is an acceptable size? Does it NEED to be bigger? Is it TOO big? Not a lot of room for adding coolness but I think it will work.

Ok so maybe I didn't have that many questions this time, but rest assured, I will :)
Here are the pics. I know I need to work on them, I have a "finished work" picture booth type thing, but it's a little too time consuming to take it all out and set it up for each update.

That is indeed very red, but as you said I am sure it will tone down as you progress. As for the base I think it an acceptable size, there is enough space to work with and make it cool but not so much that it will swallow up the mini. Looking forward to seeing this guy painted up.

Larger figures don't need "less" shading, you just need better transitions. They aren't as stark or "violent" as compared to small scale. But also remember, it's always easier to go darker than it is to go lighter for the most part.

But wow you're right that's red!

Depending on what you have planned - I think the base is fine.

Haha I told ya so! I'm going to go back with the airbrush and attempt to get some more contrast and shadows. Don't know when I'll do it, but maybe in the next day or so. Maybe I'll knock back some Nodoz and Monster tonight lol! Not really, but I might get motivated enough to spray it again tonight.
As for the base....I'm leaning towards a partial doorway arch(possibly ruined) with a inlaid design looking floor as if it was maybe an empire castle or something. Probably won't get it that far tho with the space I have. Just have to play it by ear I reckon.....

I think the base is a perfect size. As for painting something that big - I have no idea. And I really need to get one, since I now have four figures that are standing close to a foot or more LOL

How dark is going to be? I just remembered a video game. Baldur's Gate, eons ago, for the Xbox? PS2? But once you got to the Onyx Tower, the tiles on the floor had a silver almost celtic knot work symbol on what looked like black marble. It was supposed to be onyx but they had to make it look like marble in order to get some contrast. I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything. I'll keep looking tho.

Well, I'd suggest to take a look at my FW Marine thread. He's big, he's red, he started out as eye-popping candy red but after all the washes, weathering oil paint washes and such, it became the desired full not-too-bright red.

I was going to suggest the same thing. But Kathryn is right, you need to be smoother with your transitions. But you will get it, I am sure.

Yep you should start painting those soon. DOO EET NAOW! GIT TOODA CHOPPA!

If you mean how dark the base/floor will be, I'm thinking a medium darkish gray. Not sure if I could pull off marble though. I remember that game well. That, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age.... All stellar games IMO. I still have most of them too lol. One of my problems will be the fact that Hirst Arts molds are designed for ~28mm minis, so the arches aren't nearly tall enough as is. There is also not a lot of room for design work on the floor.....Just need to do some thinking/planning/looking. I'm sure whatever I come up with look appropriately crap lol :)

Right, thanks for the reminder Meph. I read through that thread a few months ago but had forgotten how the tone changes on the red. It is what I have planned from the beginning. Most of my armor models start out pretty stark and bright until the weathering/fading stages start.

Thanks for the help thus far folks, it makes me feel like everything will be just fine!
