10+ hours for 6 minis? What am I doing wrong?

Okay here goes my theory about what has been used :)

Body: Has been done with a Blood red/Mechrite red 50-50 mix. Washed with Gryphonne sepia. Redo the basecoat with a 75-25 mix of Blood red/Mechrite red. Finally do a line highlight of Fiery orange with a touch of Bleach bone.
the bits inbetween the armor have been done in the Adeptus Battlegrey washed with Badad black and highlight with Fortress grey.

Weapons: Boltgun metal over the basecoat (hence the red tone to the metal). washed with Badad black and highlight with Chainmail. The 'black' is Adeptus Battlegrey, washed with Badad black and two line highlights of Fortress grey and then Space Wolf grey. The sword has been done in the sameway as bolter, with the handle being done in Brazen brass with no highlight.

Eyes: basecoat black over the red then Dark Angels green/Goblin green mix (25-75) with scorpion green with a touch of Bad Moon yellow in the bottom corner. A spot of skull white in the top corner.

Skulls: Done in Shining gold washed with Gryphonne sepia and highlighted with Burnished gold.
Helmet knobs and shoulder pad scroll: Done in brazen brass with a wash of gryphonne sepia and highlighted in Burnished gold/Mithil silver.

I think that's all of it :)

Well i'm very surprised there are no more potential methods left as a solution!

If I had to guess, all base colours, blanket sepia/= wash, line highlight extremeties (top of helm, gun casing etc) eyes I'd say one highlight and white dot for extra depth finished with transfer on the pad. Guess purely based on that's what I'd do for 1/1.5 hr mini lol.

Sorry to have left this topic without further input but real-life obligations has made me put painting aside for a couple of months. I'm back now though, and will get around to this soon.

I must admit, Tommie's mini looks awesome and the funny part is that the pic posted here looks more "flawed" than the mini I'm staring at.

Well, that happens, have you made any effort in figuring out his technique?

The first effort I'm going to make is to say that his technique is way out of my league. Brush control, paint selection, blending, all are leaps away from what I can do even if I concentrate hard enough to break the brush shaft.

I've tried to give it an educated guess and I've seen others have a go at it again but so far we've seemed to miss the mark... I'll give it another go in a couple of days (don't spill the beans yet Tommie!!) once I get back into the "groove." Suffice to say that with my break in painting, I've not learned much compared to when I last posted before I left. In fact, I've probably forgotten most of what I've learned! :(

Minutes- hours-days what is wrong with me I have been known to take months on JUST ONE MINI.6 minis in 10 hours I would just as soon pull my own teeth out first with a spoon.........DD

Just jumping in here, I wouldn't worry about your speed- 1. you spend the time you want to (no one ever has to paint a mini, unless it's for a GW tournament the following day) and 2 you'll get faster the more you paint. Another thing to realize is that every mini hits a point where you have to put it down and move on; yes, you can always find something to touch-up, reblend, and do better, but it's not always worth it. Just get these 6 where you're 'ok with them' and try to do better on the next.
Personally, I find the more I hate the results on a model and try to redo it, It gets worse, never better.

Also, I would bet Tommie started with a red primer and worked up from there. Makes more sense for an hour and a half fig (oh, and I rarely finish a color on a mini in 1.5 hours let alone a full mini so keep that in mind.)
