Balrog

This little guy won a golden demon in LA. Honestly, it was a rushed job and I really stressed out about it. I feel like my victory is due to lack of competition mostly. This was my first major attempt at painting flames. I feel like fire is one of the holy grails of painting. Anyone have any advice?

I've never liked the mini. I never liked it in the movie but as it is always in action and doesn't appear for all that long one tends not to notice as much. Basically you have to ask yourself what exactly is on fire. Different elements will burn differently. Hydrogen, for example has a pure almost invisible flame. The hottest color is blue going down to yellow, orange and red. I would suggest looking at "dirty" fuels (like oil), not per se that of a clean burning wood fire to determine how the colors should appear.

I see the same problems with flames/fire, take a look at a campfire and have a look at the real colours. However it is more photogenic doing it this way. Good painting tho, 8.5/10
