CMON Contest #2 - Amazon
A nice figure from Steve Buddle -- I've been plagued with disasters while painting this figure. The first version I did got the head chewed on by my kitty-cat Oedipus. That little runt... I finally finished this one in September, 2003. I chose to base it on a more standard 1 inch base because if I ever use it in roleplaying games I really prefer the 1 inch = 5 ft scale and the Dark Age bases are just too large for games like D&D. It's the curse of the scale creep, I tells ya. I find it a bit funny that I chose a similar color scheme to Cyril's magnificent rendering of this figure -- I had mine 3/4 done when I saw his version, and I didn't want to ruin my work to make it look original, so I had to settle for the green cloak/light tan clothing. Perhaps the miniature cries out for that color scheme for us. I tried to paint some of the miniature with an airbrush and then add detail, but it didn't work very well. In the end, I'm disappointed with the figure. I think I've seen so many good works here that I think I can do the same thing, and I'm always disappointed with the results. My favorite parts are the fabrics -- I think I got some nice folds painted. My least favorite part is the hair -- I just can't do it well.
