Zombie Miniature Painting Question from a Non-painter

I meant black base coat, but black dip as well. Both are worth experimenting with, too - a green or red wash on a zombie might be awesome.

Edit: Tutorial mini is painted and photographed. Just need to write it up and post it.

Will you be covering Dry Brushing, Archon?

That's another useful technique for beginners, or people wanting to paint large numbers of mini's quickly to a reasonable 'tabletop' standard.

And it's been made even easier and quicker by GW and their new 'Dry Compound' paints.

Indeed. I did somewhat, if only because I couldn't paint without it, but not in any great detail. Have a look, if you have the stomach for it...

I have picked up the Miniwax for the dip. Now I just need to find time to paint. I will post pre & post dip pictures when I get there.

You guys addicted me again. I started to build up my Games Workshop Lord of the Rings "Cave Dragon" and "Red Dragon". Will make Photos when they are build and Green Stuffed ;-)

Then I will use my 80 different Games Workshop colors and washes and start painting them. Foundation will also be done with GW stuff also when I just received my Grey Army Painter Foundation.

I also have now he Army Painter Quickshades (all three colours) at home. Lets see what I will get out. (I am not a professional).

I use gloss because it sets up with harder finish. But I have never tried satin.

If I want the gloss look to vanish, I hit it with some Krylon dull coat spray.

And the best is currently I have only used a dry brushing technique. Not yet done any quickshade dipping nor used any washes yet!

Does anyone with more experience think it will even go looking better?

As I mentioned I am currently building up (assemble) my two dragons from LotR GW. I will document the process from completly build up and greenstuffed model, through foundation and smaller paint steps. Hope I do not forget ;-)

And I am always open for suggestions or serious Tips ;-)

I say go ahead and dip that bad boy! But I would use a really dark shade, something closer to black than brown. It'll pool in the middle of the flames, and really pop out that texture. Just be careful on the wings, that it doesn't get too thick in those small pits and reduce the small details.

What is your opinion regarding my Balrog?

Hate to say this, but you made a classic beginners mistake when it comes to painting flames!

That is, they should be white at the hottest part (the 'base' or 'seat' of the fire), going through yellow to red, and then possibly black or a dark-grey (if you want a sooty look to it).

So, in other words, you should have base-coated it white, then applied a heavy dry-brush of yellow, and then a lighter dry-brush of red (and an even lighter one of black/grey for that sooty look).

Hi Bortian,

That are great guides, thank you, but i will leave the balrog as it is ;-) perhaps i will use some shade washes. But for the future i will use the flame guide ;-))))
