It\'s called PAVLOVA!
These are very good too, although you have to enjoy meringues...........
Prefer whipped cream myself! Mmmmm, squirty custard - even better!

Yes, that\'s it!! Thank you for reminding me, it had to be one of the best cakes I\'ve ever had. I normally like the crust on pies anyways, but this was amazing, although it was a b*** to eat.

Mmmm, Mom\'s tiramisu. With rhum, and plenty of other good stuff I don\'t want to identify lest the magic wear off. lol

What\'s with this scary tradition? My inlaws dragged the top of our cake across country in a motorhome so we could eat it at our anniversary. When the time came, I just couldn\'t bear the thought of eating some year old freezer burned cake. This tradition can\'t predate refrigeration, so I\'m calling it a made-up tradition and thinking the fortune of my marriage is unaffected either way.
So you think... Oh, one year anniversaries were indeed a bleak event back in the days, what with the food poisoning thing. Actually, that was the whole point of the tradition : if the husband could survive eating a one-year old cake, then he probably could endure the wife\'s cooking - hence the successful marriage !

Dang, I\'m getting hungry.

My Mom-in-law makes a cake certain to solidify your arteries. Dobesch Torte. Layers of thin sugar cookie \"pancakes\" with a smooth and rich chocolate filling that\'s burned out three mixmasters. She layers it all up, and then does a carmelized sugar top that hardens so we need a saw to cut the thing. We like it so much she doubles the recipe now so it\'s about 1800 calories per slice, 16 slices per torte. Now THAT\'s a dessert! It\'ll kill us someday, but it\'s yummy.

Still, we like pie too. Can\'t we all just get along? Sometimes pie is good, sometimes I just think the occasion deserves something more, and sometimes I love to make a garbage brownie...nuts, choclate chips, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, cherry bits and swirls of vanilla stuff.

So, there\'s those that do pie but don\'t know how to make a garbage brownie, and those that do brownies and prefer not to do pie, and those that like almost anything as long as it\'s chocolate, and those willing to take a full day to do the Dobesch Torte, when it would only take an hour to do a Chocolate Banana Cream Pie. Still, they\'re all great desserts and as long as your mouth and tummy are happy, we can all get back to painting (Games Day Chicago tomorrow and I\'m sitting here dreaming of a pie break... )

:D
