What do you use to hold your minis?

My hand. :(

My fiance` who is just learning/trying out this hobby of mine uses a chamagne cork with a round base glued to the bottom for stabbility. The model is pinned and glued the stuck in the cork.... How is it that I\'m teaching her and she has better habits than I do? ???

Oh well, I\'ve known for a long time she\'s a better person than I am. ;)

I glue a 40mm warmachine base to the bottom of a large cork, and glue a 2\" square piece of sheet metal to the other side. I then glue a rare earth magnet to the bottom of the model to hold it onto the metal. The cork allows my huge meathooks to hold onto the figure, and the magnet allows me to reposition the figure without having to use more adhesive.

I\'ve painted monstrous white metal creatures on this rig, and they simply don\'t move. If they are on the heavier side, I just add a second magnet.

WOW, a picture of DR paintin\'!!!
that\'s like sightin\' a white lion...

i go for the pin in the foot, and use a pin vise or exacto handle...sometimes it does make for very creative ways of tryin\' to set the mini down to dry...
the pin-vise with the hex base is good...

cheers

That is rare -- I haven\'t seen White Lion since the early \'90s!

What do you use to hold your MINI\'s

I created a vise out of aluminum, that I can hang or stand in the base. Pic\'s to follow.

my fingers.
Bah, my terrible joke\'s been pre-empted. Twice.

Otherwise: sometimes a paint pot weighed dow with schrapnel, but usually just a temporary base. The latter\'s pretty rough on fingers though (I\'m developing a good claw), so Dragonreach\'s method is looking pretty good to me.

What kinda scale you talking about for \'larger\' mini?

I use a 3\" length of PVC pipe with a cork in one end. I remove the tabs from most miniatures and pin the legs, leaving the pins long so I can stick them into the cork. I use 1/2\" or 3/4\" diameter for smaller figures, and 1-1/4\" diameter for large figures. I glue a slotless Citadel base to the other end, and fill the pipe about half way with a mix of lead shot and epoxy. Giving it a wider base and making it bottom-heavy prevents it from being easily tipped over.

I\'ve just started blu-tacking mine to a wooden block (like a child\'s building brick) which works well for me.

I\'m with Billy here but I have blocks from Michael\'s in all sizes from really tiny to 3\" across so if I\'m doing a tiny piece it\'s easy to get to all the details near the bottom. I use low temp hot glue though.

Its not so much the fact that he is painting but what he is painting that is worrying :D

He hates Orcs & Goblins???

I bet he hasn\'t painted that Avatars of War Goblin I sent him though lol

As for me well I pin the mini to a cork from an empty bottle of wine, Champagne corks work well but I hate the stuff so I haven\'t got that many of them :) I really must get to a home brew shop and see if I can get myself a few Demi-John corks otherwise I might try the idea of glueing the cork to a base to keep it upright with some heavier/unbalanced models.

I can do you a swap (re the Table Legs) as I have plenty of Plastic Pipe I can cut to fit your hand, just send me the measurement of your fist diagonally from Index finger First Knuckle to Heel of palm opposite your thumb.
Plus Making Cork to fit is easy, all you need it a Hole Cutter and a Drill and a lot of glued together Cork.

i pin the heel of the model, then use a pin vice. Its good because you can use the pin vice for multiple pieces, long as you have a peg in the piece. So it makes for an easy handle i can easily swap between pieces

I either pin the leg and use the pinvice (gives me shooting hand cramps) or (more usually) glue the mini into it\'s base and pop the mini on a blob of blutak to secure it to one of my old GW paint pots (usually titillating pink, my all time fave colour).

I have invested in some wine corks from Wilco\'s to try DR\'s method with an Ultramarine Tyranid Hunter fella.

I hate painting powered armour :(
