What do you use to hold your minis?

I know a lot of people like using an empty paint-pot but this is my favorite method:

The clothes pegs are high quality with soft rubber tips; they also balance the minis quite well on the side of a cup.

Since I usually pin my models to their base, I will paint the miniature while it\'s attached to my pin vice. I just drill a deep hole in the foot and glue in a paper clip. Presto!

It\'s the older GW pin vice, so the bottom of it is a flat hexagon, easily able to stand up on it\'s own when I am not painting.

I put the mini on its base and stick it to an old paint pot with poster putty. Or I pin the feet and stick the pins in a cork - that one\'s not so good because the cork falls over...

I\'ve just started blu-tacking mine to a wooden block (like a child\'s building brick) which works well for me.

I used to use pieces of spun craft wood with poster putty.

I am moving to using non prescription medicine pill bottles with a (certain type of) child resistant cap. The caps are the sort that spin round and round and round unless you are pushing down at the same time.

With these types of caps I can rotate the mini with a single finger. Very handy.

Nice clothes peg. I now like to use handmade clamps with big, comfortable grips for ease of holding during long painting sessions.

For years I used a pin vice for most smaller figures and individual parts but the narrow diameter made my hand cramp as the years went on. I long ago discarded using anything like Plasticene or Blu-Tack to hold things in place on top of a paint pot or similar - just not secure enough.

I use hemostats. My girlfriends parents are both in the medical field and toss me new ones whenever I ask. They are quite cheap to buy if you don\'t have any connections.

I have tried many different grips but the hemostats are nice and big, provide many different angles to hold, and can be stabilized nicely due to the grip holes. Most have 3 different tightness settings so they can easily be clamped onto the base tab on the bottom of your mini or any pinning method that you have attached to your project.

I\'ve still got the horrible habbit of just holding the mini by the mini. Usually a point of the base and the tip of a weapon, sometimes by an arm or the head. The female ogre I am working on currently I find I am holding most often by the tree branch in her hand.

Mark 1 version of Home made handgrip, Section of Plastic Fax Tube, Large Cork Plasticard & SlottaBase.
Simple solution to problem.
Mark 2 is slightly shorter Plastic Fax tube so that it would fit easily in my travelling demo case.

I\'m in the \'glue in a paperclip and screw on a pin vice\' camp. On small plastics (GW dwarves, goblins, etc...) I\'ll still blue tac them to the bottom of a nicely sized pill bottle. Mostly though, that pill bottle is blue tacced to my paint shelf. Not only is it comfortable to hold, it is also perfectly sized to hold my pin vice so mini\'s never touch nothin\' but air.

I also use that pill bottle to transport WIPs if they need to travel for whatever reason. I just blue tac it to the console and the mini rides safely beside me.

I guess mostly I just love blue tac. =P

Try gluing a large coin to the base - nice and heavy and flat - I use 2ps on the bottom of my corks.

i tend to just hold the base if the mini is glued. otherwise i hold it in a pin vice

Yep, I have that habit as well.

Foam Tape? How is that different from normal 2 sided tape?

It\'s the same concept, instead of just \'tape\' it is a soft spongy foam strip about 1-2mm thick.

Pin my mini to a block of scrap MDF (medium density fibreboard) or scrap wood. Pin-vice if too small.
