that is my comment on that mini..please tell me what you thing and consider my words please: here is the
link:http://www.coolminiornot.com/96465

totally overated!!! that is so strange: 6 days and 237votes..a miniature well painted but only greay brown and black colours..so so so simple..nothing spaecial..nothing original..and a rating of 9,4..and 237 votes (so much than a normal number of votes with that rating and those days in the tlseven days), and no one has written a comment for you..and that is cause this is good painted but not as impressive to write a comment.. i think that something is wrong there..maybe some traps here.. lijke some painters a that were here doing bad things.. please, explain it to me.. why it is 9,4???..what special or original thing is painted here?.. is that so much better than other lotr miniatures like luis gomez pradal ones, bvragon ones or alexi-z ones??.. i think there is something wrong here...and that is time to shout it..

the same as your other miniatures..n extraordinary number of votes..not so normal..and totally overated..like your green mosnter with that ugly red cap.. with a 9,2!!! incredible man.. there is 2 possibilities: people have missed their tastes..or you do traps.

greetings

It\'s certainly frustrating, but has to simply be that it\'s linked in other forums. possibly non-mini ones where the ussers don\'t frequent this site.

There have been other genuine cases of dirty dealings here but this is not one of them. It\'s certainly a skewed result, and definately not above a 8.5 IMHO, but at least this one is doing better now and has a healthy number of comments

love to know where those forums are tho!

if I may defend Holger for this one :

I have seen this miniature in real life at miniaturansichten this year, and I don\'t think 9.4 is overrated. especially because I painted one of these monsters myself. It is a HUGE figure, and very hard to bring it to life. he has done this however with his typical muted palette and did a stunning good job at it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to create smooth blendings and transitions on such a large miniature?

so as for the painting, I really think that this mini deserves alot of praise.

and as for the \'too many votes\' issue : is the inquisition back? Holger has done alot of things for the mini / painting community, and has a well known and much visited website. How hard is is to believe that he can get more votes?

No one (or at least I don\'t) is trying to slagg off Holger! I like his stuff and I know he is very involved in a lot of activities in the painting community and deserves praise for that. However, it\'s not his deeds that are up for rating here on CMON, nor is it the real life mini, but photos of it! Now, I don\'t think this is a big deal. In fact, I\'m happy for Holger that his minis don\'t suffer from sniping (or at least not as badly as other\'s)! :D

no the inquisition isn\'t back, just people who are observant and curious!

no one\'s accusing Holger of anything; even in the other thread that became clear very quickly, and just clicking on his link reveals the man\'s input into the hobby.

But as Ritual said, it is the photo that\'s being judged here, and it\'s not the best IMHO (for obvious reasons the beast has had to be reduced so we can see it on screen) so people judge what they see on screen, and some have simply questioned it - thats all. It\'s like the comments have transferred to the forums and not with the mini itself.

The point remains that some people were/are surprised at the number of votes and the average it\'s getting. So obviously it is hard to believe the number of votes!!!!

And still, for me, from the pics alone it isn\'t a stand out miniature - no wow factor or anything and not enough close shots or detail shots to impress me; so 8.5 for me. Obviously 200+ people disagree with me :D.

Anyway - the fellbeast was never my problem but the big ugly red thing that was in the low 9s. just couldn\'t fathom that one out.

It just seems there was voting on the name and not on the mini.

Just because a person is well-known and respected, it doesn\'t mean they\'re immune to questioning. Hard figure to paint or not, it ain\'t a 9.3 (as it currently reads). The other awcho piece is smashing though. Well worth the score. The thing about any system is that it probably ain\'t waterproof. It\'s easy to push your own score up if you wanted. Flipside, fanboys are just as effective. God knows why anyone would close their eyes to what they see and vote 9\'s and 10\'s on their favourite painter\'s stuff - unless it\'s 9-10 quality that is

I was thinking that he had a link to his website too. there is also the fact that he might be popular. Its really hard to say someone has too many votes too fast.

I don\'t care about his score for a mini, there are a couple of other figures on this site that are over or under rated. Just starting a tread about another mini that is supposed to be overrated is kinda silly anyway.
I have seen the mini and the pics don\'t do it justice, this piece has the right score. I know that doesn\'t justify a higher score because people who vote have not seen it in real life.

And aren\'t you taking this a tad too far, starting entirely new topics to say that ONE miniature is overrated? I can imagine there are more useful things to do with your time. You can question these things, but do it in a shoutbox or something because I think it\'s abit useless to make topics for it.

I just reacted here, and I should have done it in the other post. People who start saying that this is \'weird\' that he has more votes and suggesting some kind of fraud, that pissed me off .

It is a nice mini and gets the score it gets. The problem is your attitude and not his painting. Was it really necessary to leave such a rude and nasty message as a comment on the mini. Hope it made you feel good to vent in such a childish way but I\'m just gonna have to call you out on that and let you know it was weak.

A tale of two sites...

I first discovered CMON from a link over at Privateer Press. They have a huge painting and conversion forum over there, and almost all the posts have links to pics here on CMON. Have any of you noticed that the very things that are being pointed out on Holger\'s mini, ALMOST EVERY Warmachine mini is guilty of? Most WM minis get lots of votes very quickly, and are usually over-rated. They are being voted on by masses of Privateer Press fan-boys who would probably give out 8\'s just for the unpainted model. I know, I used to do that myself. Every time I followed a link from there I would be like \"cool\" and click 10, then go back to reading their forums. They have a very popular, very large, and VERY biased forum over there. I don\'t think Holger is doing anything wrong, I just think he probably linked the pic to a LotR fansite, or perhaps to several other forums.

I don\'t see any wrong-doing in this. In fact, I like both models in question for different reasons. The one has a more fantastical look, granted, but Holger\'s capture\'s the dark and brooding flavor of the creature from the movie. This site is based on opinions, and IMHO I think both models are pretty much right on.

It\'s overrated on the basis of the pics that are there. What the thing looks like IRL is totally irrelevant.

The amount of votes the pieces have mustered are not ridiculous and can easily be explained by linking from different forums.

I don\'t think that it\'s silly to question things occasionally. There have been instances of misadventure in the past that have come to light through the forums. There is little point in having a ranking and voting system if it gets abused.

That TTL7 is an absolute bitch to get into, and even harder to stay in. A massive amount of sniping goes on, especially before your mini hits 50 votes. An artist stands out when they get several pieces in there. You can\'t blame people for looking and having an opinion!

I agree that posting negative comments on the mini itself was a little naive. It always makes the poster look like a twat. I have no problems with an open discussion here though....

Since this topic has come up a couple of times recently, let me put in my 2 cents.

Popular people get more votes. Yes, people that link their work from forums and from websites will get more votes. Just like any other product in the World, you are competing against almost 60,000 images for attention, anything that you do to make your work stand out will receive more attention.

Popular miniatures or miniature lines will get more votes. People need to identify with what they are voting on most of the time, so if you are painting whats hot at the moment, ie, GW, Rackham, WM etc, most likely you will get more attention.

Popular techniques will get more votes. If you paint in a style that is currently popular, ie, NMM, rusty metal, freehand, you will get more votes.

There are many other reasons. I have said it before, CMON is what it is - Cool Mini Or Not. What is a cool mini to one might not be to another. You might like the paintjob, the sculpt, the conversion or even the painter, that is all up to you.

If someone gets a lot of votes, great! So a lot of people like something that you don\'t. Well, you might have different taste. If we all like exactly the same thing, then we will all be wearing the same clothes, driving the same car and marrying the same girl lol Try to be happy for somebody who is getting the appreciation and not be so worried about fowlplay.

To be honest, there are tens of thousands of people on this site, if everyone would just vote, then there is no amount of sniping or inflating that anyone can do anyways... just a thought.

Think Scott has summed things up very well.

I\'ve only commented on these discussions because I have been lucky enough to get my first piece in the T10L7 this last week - and was amused to watch it get hit and sniped a few times, just to find all was sorted in the morning after those snipes were removed. Think I made the whole week too which was very gratifying.

As such I found myself wondering about some pieces that have got there.

The cool thing about CMON forums is people can speak their minds - there are some forums where posts just get deleted instantly. Free speech and all...

This whole thing makes me wonder whats going to happen when the Tsunami Relief army is posted for auction. Will pics be included in the gallery, or would that be a bad idea? I plan on putting links on at least five other sites I\'m a member of, and I\'m sure everyone else will do the same. What happens when a pic gets over a thousand votes in a week? And the GW crowd will vote fan-boy, whilst the WM crowd will pobably snipe... :(

Edit: I got sniped recently, on my Gnobblers. My very first vote was a one! The picture hadn\'t gone active yet, so someone had to have followed the link in the Tsunami Relief thread. That means it was a forum member...

I\'m definately a mediocre painter, and I know it, but I think they were slightly better then a one. I\'m not too upset though, because now I think they are actually higher then they should be. lol

I thought it was interesting that Seiya was the person that bought Robius to our attention here. Actually this thread is well worth another read!

Only 5 posts and 2 questioning votes!!! Now there\'s a suspicious person!
