WOW indeed. That is some very nice work bud. Do you have any tutorials or just pictures of the processes you go through for molding and casting them?

Digganob - If You have any questions about casting feel free to ask me on priv. It will be very hard for me to write about it in english, but i will do my best :).I have in my plans to make few tutorials, about sculpting, but i have so many stuff on my head now that i can't say when it will apear.

Captain927 - Thaks! I have few with some air bubble for people who want them. The finished product will apear on my webstore ... when i pay for server and meet with Guy who will help me to make it work ;P. I try to make it as soon as i can.

Coyotebreaks - Thank You :).

Now, i'm working on better giants molds, and on molds for rotten cannon. Sorry that i don't show here any new WIPs, but casting miniatures takes all me free time.

Hi,

first my complements on you're amazing sculpts they look awesome.

Can I also ask some questions on your casting process? If been trying to make cast myself with various results and was wondering how you do it?

My english is terrible, but i hope that You will understand what i want to say.

I'm not an expert in casting and moulding, but i will write what i know. Maybe it will help.

Making mold:
When You are making a mold You have to remember that when You pour resin to it, some air bubble can appear (horrible bastards!! ;P). The best way to avoid it is to place miniature/monster/leg ect. in position that help to move air bubble (horrible bastards!!) up to intel (?? You know, the place where You pour resin ;P). You can also add some channels by which air bubble (horrible bastards!!) can leave mold.
1. first thing You have to do is to unbubble the silicon. i use vacuum pump. Remember that silicon can start to "boil" in this process. it is good to unbubble it in a much bigger container than a volume of silicon. (two time bigger, sometimes three)
2. pour silicon in to the box with miniature/monster/leg ect. and unbubble it again. Keep it in vacuum chamber for a while.

Casting:
And again ... air bubble (horrible bastards!!)
It's good thing for a start to use resin that have a long liquid life, You will see why below. There are two ways of casting:

With use of vacuum pump:
1. mix A and B parts. YEAH ! and unbubble this shake with use of vacuum pump. Do it quick.
2. pour resin to mold. I sometimes squeeze mold a little bit in places where are thin and long free spaces (like a sword).
3. it's not the end. Put all molds with resin in to vacuum chamber and unbubble it again (the resin can "boil" so remember to make a big intel (?? again .. You know, the place where You pour resin ;P). Don't keep it long there.
4. Pull molds out. The point is that resin have to be liquid during all four steps.
5. Pray for no air bublle (horrible bastards!!) ;P

With use of compressor:
The whole process looks the same as with use a vacuum pump. The difference is that resin don't "boil" during the whole process.
The problem is that i don't know is it a good thing to keep molds in pressure chamber for a long time. Now I'm experiment with it :).

Two more things. The vacuum pump is quite quiet, so it can be use in flat. The compressor is a loud monster that want to eat Your children and drink Your blood.

I hope it helps. If someone find some technical (or grammar ;) ) mistakes let me know !

GOOD LUCK !!

I think ROTTEN FACTORY has explained it well, I can add to this, if you pour the resin from a great height and do it as a tiny thin continuous stream or resin you will get less air bubbles.

You can buy silent compressors ( I use Bambi compressors ) that are as loud as a fridge and perfect for indoor use without disturbing others. However the smell of resin in the house might not be so welcome.

My last attempt at moulding/casting was a nightmare, so hope this has gone better for you. The rotten barbarian series is awesome.

"The compressor is a loud monster that want to eat Your children and drink Your blood." LMAO, I can actually picture one of those chasing kids down the street. Excellent explanation Rotten, thank you very much for that. What kind of materials do you use for your mold and resin?

Eyeayen - i have never heard about silent compressors! I have to find and buy one now :)

Bgcdazzler - THANKS ! :)

Digganob - HAHA ! Yes, he does such things ;). For mold i use MM922 Silicone (Hardness 22 ShA). Resin -> SmoothCast 321 (https://www.smooth-on.com/product-line/smooth-cast/)

KruleBear - at your service ;)

Locutus - you're welcome !

In this post i want to post You link to my web store, but ... i have problems with paypal module and it don't work ;P. But some miniatures are ready for sell (Karyput with brothe, Demon champion, Butcher, Poor guy, Giant). Giant is now in four parts - i had to fix mold to cast it in better quality :).

New Year and new challenges:

Will be purchasing a few of your models when I've gotten through my backlog!

I'm not going to be able to kill them. Might lightly bruise, maybe give them a Chinese burn.
