RedDawn:

I studies chemical engineering before dropping out (had tuned in and turned on already years before!) , did lots of lab work in inorganic determinations(?) and both organic and inorganic synthesis.

In one synthesisthe text states athat a slight odor of sulfur dioxide showed the previous step in the synthesis to be a success. I couldn\'t for the life of me figure out where that H(2)S woulda been coming from, so I just stuck the test tube under my nose and huffed.

The sulphur dioxide was there alright. Burned my nostrils, couldn\'t smell amything for a week.

Just goes ta show, it\'s always something.

lol

SO TRUE - it is always something! Like the time I was in chem lab working on the same proj/test as above and this little b@st@rd contaminated the titration I needed (my last test of the day) just as I was walking up to the beaker. I yelled at him to stop and he still stuck his danged pipette into the beaker and turned the whole thing from a clear liquid to purple. :flame: I thought the lab assistant was going to kill him too. She\'d just mixed up that beaker and had to go do another!

Only two times in my life I really wanted to hurt someone and that was one of them! Grumb really doesn\'t want me to talk about the other time! lol

I\'ve been on the receiving end of that, RedDawn!

Once, just for fun, I dropped about 100 grams of sugar cubes in a beaker of concentrated sulfuric acid. When the black column of carbon began to volcano up out of the beaker, I started making loud worried sputtering noises like something had gone desperately wrong... the girl on the other side of the lab table stopped, looked stunned and dropped her test tube....4 hours of work gone like that!

I felt pretty bad about it, didn\'t mean to cause havoc, just to have a little laugh... we share results, had a drink later, got married, had 2 kids......no, not really, that\'s another story completely!

Ooooh, better life through chemistry....yowza!

And then there was the professor that started his first semester class each year by washing his face in liquid nitrogen...dipped his hands in a thermo container, srubbed them and rubbed his face down....dunno how he did it, the one time I tried , my bangs and eyebrows froze and broke off....

:Dlol:D

Stupid Car Repairs

Ok, you want a stupid \"things you should never do\" story. My work truck wouldn\'t go into gear so I got out and looked underneath. The linkage had become stuck on something, so I slid under and yanked on it. It became unstuck. One problem, I NEVER TURNED THE TRUCK OFF! It started moving forward and I rolled out from under it just before the rear wheel squished me. Before I could even breath a sigh of relief, however, I realized it was headed for the wall of my boss\'s office building! I had to run after it, jump in, and manage to stop it about an inch from the wall. My partner who was standing about twenty feet away had tears in his eyes from laughing so hard. Me... I was white as a ghost and went somewhere to get very drunk.

Does the metal that mini\'s are made of contain lead?? I hear them called pewter. Is that a lead alloy??

Most minis today are made of lead-free pewter, although some (very)older minis may contain lead. However, pewter is made of about 95-97% tin. Antimony and copper are added in as hardeners.

Just received two Foundry minis in the mail today -- the disclaimer on the back of the blister pack contains the info that the minis contain lead. The copyright information on the pack is from 2000.

GW advertises their figures as being made of lead-free pewter. Haven\'t seen any disclaimer from other manufacturers. Anybody else?

:)

They are the ones who up until very recently kept unbalanced heavy loads teetering 20-30 feet over the head of their customers, right?

Hey! I was the guy putting those loads up there, someones got to help Natural Selection along. lol

not sure, but aren\'t Rackams still made of lead?
As far as I know Rackham minis are still lead-based. Nothing else casts as well and Rackham don\'t seem to think of their products as toys. Just check out their mags and catalogues for proof. Also, traditionally, the French have always been regarded as having a cavalier attitude towards Health and Safety. They say a \'Full English\' is unhealthy???. In my experience, a \'Full French\' (No not that you dirty-minded sods!) consists of 10 Gitanes and a bottle of red. The croissant isn\'t to eat, it\'s just to mop up the phlegm:flip:

...allegedly...;)

Mmmm phlegm.
They could include pretty pics like the ones on tobbaco as a warning. Like an overweight gamer sitting on a couch eating all your pizza or a guy\'s wife yelling at him for having too many...
