Project 666 minis

I'm going to put up all the finished minis from my blog in this thread, so if I keep to my goal, it will have 666 painted minis in it by the end of 2012.

The first model I've done is a Space Marine Captain who I painted up as a Salamander. I'm not particularly happy with the photos that I'm getting at the moment. they don't seem to show the models at their best, so I'll have to work on my setup, but here he is, looking reasonably like he does in the flesh. Throw me your feedback :)

Intresting "gritty" style you got. Overall the model looks kinda busy but the tehniques are great!

Math ain't my strong point, but wouldn't you have to paint the average of two minis per day to reach that lofty goal?

I was totally going for a clean look on the Salamander, and then it somehow evolved into a more gritty finish right at the end. Thanks for the feedback.

Your maths is spot on Supervike, almost 2 a day for the entire year. It's how I make my wages though. It's nothing to do with raising the devil Aliengod3, but if I manage to complete the challenge I feel I'll have enough good vibes going on that I can smite him down should I accidentally do so. :)

I just managed to get photos sorted for 'mini' number 2 and am feeling too tired to sort out number 3 right now. who is also done.

I'm already 1/222 of the way there. Hurrah!!! ;)

If you've got time between busily painting like a painting demon, just curious how many minis you've got going at one time? Doing it assembly line style? Have one mini in construction, prime another, one with base coats, one with details, etc?

Well it has been predicted that the world will come to an end in 2012. Looks like I have a suspect for who will bring about its end once he reaches the completion of the 666th mini. jk. ;)

The terrain piece looks great! If that was painted in one day that is some very impressive quality. Keep up the good work!

Well I'm seriously impressed. At my BEST speed I can push out a mini Raw to Display Quality in 5 hours, IF its a fairly simple pose with no doodads and geegaws on it.
I know that I couldn't paint 10 hours/day for 365, so my hats well and truely off to you.
As to the Old Captain nice work on a 80/90's figure, in regard to the manor.............Now that's just showing off.

PegaZus - Right now I have got a few things on the go and a lot more in various stages of prep. I made sure I cleaned up and primered a fair few single minis before the year started and I also have units built over a near lifetime of hobby addiction. They all need painting now! I basically work in as logical fashion as I can, getting a bulk of stuff done at each stage. If I'm using my airbrush I'll do a lengthy session on various models to save on repeatedly having to clean it. If I'm painting a unit I'll work through each colour before moving on. As I get deeper and deeper into it, I'll probably stagger a few projects in between, but generally I try and get whatever I've started painting completely finished before moving on to another thing. If I don't I end up with stuff almost done, waiting to be finished off for months.

Aliengod3 - I'm not sure exactly how long I spent on Skullvane Manse... 10 hours or there abouts probably.

Dragonsreach - Ah, but your minis look a bit better than mine! It still remains to be seen if I can do a few minis a day, 5 days (sometimes more) a week, but as it's paying the bills, pretty important I have a good go. :) There will be times that I'll do squads and whatnot to sell on eBay that will help me get a bulk of models done a bit quicker. For example, I have a load of Necrons I never got around to painting, and a big unit of Wood Elf Dryads to put together. Things like that are going to seriously help when I'm getting desperately behind schedule, and should get me some pennies at the same time.

go for it mate. Like most folks, I reckon my painting is glacial at best, so if you really do manage your 666 target my hat will be well and truly off to you. You'd enter into CMON legend, most likely :)

Nah Marty McFly has already travelled to 2015 ;)

@Lono
Seriously impressed with your mini's and the speed you're turning them round is insane! I'm actually more taken with the mansion now I've seen your paint job.

Great job so far :) And might I add: I'm so jealous!!! The speed you do it and the painting quality just turn me green! I can wait to see the rest of it.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Finally took some pictures of mini number 3, a Games Day Orc to accompany the Grot I already painted last year. Not massively satisfied with him if I'm being honest, and I didn't give him the level of attention a limited release miniature perhaps deserves, but he's just not as cool as the little dude beside him. I'm busy with a unit of Flamers now which I'm getting into and can't linger on the Orc forever.

Here's cheerleaders singing:-
Go Lono, Go Lono, Go Lono, Go Lono.

Hope that's some inspiration for you.

Russian Cheerleaders?
In America, you lead cheers.
In Soviet Russia, cheers lead you!

I approve of this post greatly though. :) More cheerleaders!

I am up crazy early today, after getting to bed just as crazy early last night. Still fighting off a bug I think, which is making me desire sleep, but then not letting me stay in the snooze zone. The mini count is currently at 11, after getting 6 Flamers of Tzeentch done yesterday and a Necromancer and Galadriel finished at Warhammer World on Tuesday. Galadriel was unplanned and rushed out in less than 2 hours, after I realised I'd done the Necro and had nothing else to be getting on with while my friend still painted!

I'll hopefully have an Ogre Kingdoms standard bearer done today. My camera is playing silly again though, which is becoming increasingly concerning. I think it's a problem with the memory card rather than the camera itself, so with any luck will have proper pictures of minis soon.

Here are some ones with my camera phone though.

The banner pole's not stuck in place, so shouldn't look as wobbly and skewed when it's all finished.

Mini number 4 - Vampire Counts Necromancer - Painted at Warhammer World on Tuesday during a painting session with a friend of mine who works in the casting room at GW. While I painted this he managed to do a shoulder of a Tzeench sorcerer model. It's a very nice shoulder though!

Mini number 5 - Galadriel - And as I'd finished off the Necromancer, I decided to try and do a proper speed paint type job on Galadriel. She's a pretty simple mini, so I kept her fairly clean and went for a bit of a prettied up base. She took just under 2 hours from start to finish I reckon.

Mini numbers 6 to 11 - Flamers of Tzeentch - I'd say this is about as gaming standard as my paint jobs will ever get. I have totally done these as an investigation on eBay about how much something I take less time and effort on will sell for. I'll stick them up as two units of three in a few weeks, hence the two separate voting pages.

Looks nice, but by my count, you're about 12 minis short of the goal right now! Get crackin'!
