Paint a Penny

I got this idea from a post by yrret, so kudos to him.

How about a painting competition to paint a penny? It doesn\'t matter what kind of penny you use (American, Canadian, English...), but prime it, paint it up, and then post it on CMON with the name \"paint a penny\". All entries are due by new years eve. And all the entrants can judge which is best (it may not do so well with people who don\'t know about the competition). No prize involved, just a little something that\'ll amuse the cashier next time you buy some more minis.

So go and paint your penny!

A penny eh? Hmmm, I think I will use one of those pennies that are flattened with those cool machine thingies! That would be fun!:flip::bouncy:

a penny saved is a penny earned...

Very clever idea.

I may have more pennies around the house than I do miniatures....

Plus, I have been using my hard earned money to actually buy more miniatures, when all along I could have painted the money instead!! What have I been thinking!!lol

well

In Denmark, as far as I know, this actually constitutes a felony, since you\'re abusing \"the King\'s coin\"...
I don\'t know the penalty for it... and I don\'t much care... just thought I\'s mention it :)

A law that probably dates from the days when coins were made of precious metals, and some people would file the edges down and then spend the coins, keeping the gold/silver dust... I think that\'s also why coins have a texture on the edge, or are polygonal instead of round. I think in the US it\'s legal to mutilate money in any way you wish (hence the penny-stamping machines), but it ceases to be legal tender once you do so, so trying to spend it is similar to counterfeiting.

Make sure to give your pennies a good vinegar bath before painting, money is really filthy after all. Remember that the next time the sub shop person keeps their gloves on to give you your change *shudder*

It\'s even sadder than that I am afraid...

You are lucky not to have Royalty! I understand it is technically an offense in the UK to deface any image of the Monarch. Might suggest potential rebellious or republican tendencies. Of course no-one gets done for it now as the Post Office would be guilty every time they franked a stamp:D

It\'d be fun to do something with that kind of detail. You could also paint the sky dark and moody, with a full moon or something. I\'m going to begin my entry today (sadly I\'m just stuck with boring old Lincoln) So don\'t you all just stand there making smart remarks, have a go! It can\'t take too long :)

Well, if this comp is anything like the Boring Marine one, I think we\'re all gonna forget about in a bit, and the one person to actually complete it will win......in other words, I may actually win!!! Whoooo!!! :D

In Canada, we\'re stuck with the boring ol\' queens head on one side, but I\'m thinking it might be fun to attempt the maple leaf on the other.....
