best thing about the new paints,

1. the washes now no longer stink.
2. ceramic white covers very very well. As does the new mephiston red

While we agree to disagree on Cost/quality/volume of GW paint vs. other brands, I think Mr. Pickles would agree that he was being sarcastic when he said top painters would not use GW paints.

Sorry mate I still have a knee-jerk reacting at times about GW and this was one of them.

Whoever says that great results cant be achieved with GW paints is either a troll or hasnt seen some of the epic mini's posted by the likes of Jeremie Bonamont, Tommy Soule, Jakob Nielson....... to name but a few off the top of my head.

Alfonso Giraldez, aka Banshee, is one of the best painters out there (imho) and he always talks about the high quality of the Citadel pigments, and uses them just like he uses Vallejo and other brands.

I can not understand why must a painter limit himself to a brand, instead of choosing whatever he likes more from here and there.

True, but why must GW make things so hard for serious painters to get comfortable with a paint color when they constantly discontinue things? I now know to not take anything for granted, never assuming that a product will still be there next month when I might need to get more, because of this appalling new habit of discarding, discontinuing and abandoning things we buy from them.

That shows me a great desperation for raising money fast, and also a lack of faith in, and respect for their own product. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all that colors like Utramarine Blue, Blood Red, Chaos Black, Mithril Silver, Boltgun Metal, Skull White and all those colors which have become synonymous with the Citadel Name and GW trademark, which we all grew up with have somehow been discarded like last year's lead models. It makes no bloody sense to me at all!

I look at Vallejo's enormous range and they have colors and sets that they add new colors to, yet never seem to discontinue items from. That shows me they care about their customer as well as trust their product line as well as are comfortable with their products' ability to generate profit regardless of how many people buy this paint or that paint, new or old, etc.

Though I've not yet tried them, I have no doubt their new paints are not bad. And though some might seem to be a bit gimicky, their new products are probably worth buying, sure. But why they could not have been an addition to the range, and not an all-out replacement thereof, is a mystery.

To be fair Griffin, i've been using GW paints since i was 14.....about 18 years now and in that time they've introduced a few colours, the washes and foundations and discontinued what......4-5 paints? Tentacle pink, jade green, midnight blue and maybe a few more i cant think of...... That aint too bad when the discontinued ones can be had from Valeyo......

I know that things are different but everyone will adapt. All i'm gonna do is take an empty pot to GW, scan through until i find the right one and bang. If it isnt the shade i want, i'll mix it. No big deal. In 12 months time, it'll all be forgotten and everyone will be happy. Change sucks but once its happened it'll all be good.

I like the paints, I have used them and if anything I find they have made things easier, not harder. I'm really looking forward to playing with the new tones between blue and green, I don't have much experience in the turquoises so it'll be fun to try some new colours and learn some new things. I'm totally starting a white scars army now :)

The new gw paints have made sme colors more easy to achieve. And made a wider range of shades available to the general audience. Both win win in my book. Aaaaaand ill be starting a salamanders army soon!

Rose Model Art

I'm actually a man!
Well i stumped for about 30 of the new paints, mainly for my upcoming GK army, but i bought some flesh tones and cherry picked a few reds n blues too.

I havent had a good play with them yet but from what i have used the red and silver base colours are very good, and the white will make doing ceramite armour a god send, as its a lovely army when done right.

I like how the blues, greens and brown\tans have been greatly expanded, giving much easier range to blend and create depth, this was an area the GW paints lacked, and my Game Colour range filled in the gaps.

This is a good thing by GW and i can see it making it a lot easier to achieve fast reults for an army, and allow the more pro guys to re-train as they see fit to achieve the same results.
