Man Laz... you've improved tons. I wouldn't believe those Hive Guard(Tyrant guard?) were by the same kid who started this thread. You still need to work on your edging a bit though. The lines just look a little thick. I was noticing that on the wave serpent as well. :D Over all great improvement though.

Thanks alot! I'm not painting alot this week to review for finals.

The Wave Serpent... I painted that one a year ago (just got better pictures). I need to get a fine detail brush to edge (I eat throught these quickly). I got an Imperial Guard army in the mail so Imma be working on that. Updates soon.

Here are some bits I painted for Chapter House Studios. Since these will be display products, advice for improvement is very appreciated.

Painted part of an Inquisitor for my IG army...

NMM like painted by razza except switching out the washes for inks (yellow ink instead of Sunburst Yellow, Purple Ink instead of Leviatan Purple, etc.).

Not sure if I like it though. The blending needs work and the brightest highlight is a little stark (?). And the picture isn't vey good...

My only critique os far on the Inquisitor lord is how he's mounted on the base. He's in a Contrapposto stance with all his weight on one leg. That one leg is unfortunately down hill which makes him look like he's about to fall backwards. My advice would be at the very least turn him 180 so that the other foot is downhill. It should correct his stance a bit.

Apoligize in advance for the picuture.

I took it at night. The purple is mostly done.

The camera took my carefully blended layers and KILLED them, oh well.

Can't change the pose, fresh out on glue at the moment. Daylight pictures monday, as I am going camping.

EDIT: It seems the gold has lost some depth too : (

Do some very dark brown/black glazes in the shadows then a final white highlight and that should sort it out. if you look at Razza's stuff the highlights are pretty stark as they are only the lightest reflections.

Thanks Alex. I don't know how well they can be seen, but there are 3 washes. Dark Flesh, Dark Flesh+Chaos Black and Black Ink.

Worked on it some more. Not sure I like the purple. It look better before I washed it and rehighlighted...

Also 2 Guardsmen done for my army.

Thanks Cheefly. I will do it if I have time.

Okay, my 1500 point IG army needs to be painted for a tournament in 2 weeks. Kinda forgot about painting them as I have been doing alot of commission stuff...

Half Day at school today so got alot done.

2 Chimeras,
Based, painted base, and flocked bases of 50 IG after assembling the last batch and priming them
The last 20 of the Eldar I was commissioned to do..

I liked the Chimeras as I used Weathering Pigments and Oils on them for the first time and am happy with the result.

The scheme is:
Orkshide Shade
Knarloc Green
Camo Green
Devlan Mud
Black Oil Pin Wash
Yellow mixed with Brown Oil Pin Wash
Dullcote
Pigments :)

Nice guy, maybe just blending a bit better some highlights. Congrats on your trophy.

Thanks, the camera makes my highlights look really stark especially on the cape.

Harry the Hammer WIP, the gold has since got verdigis (?) but didn't get pictures of it. It makes the gold look SO much better.

Hi Lazuli :)

That Mechrite Red wash looks like a nice base for a Slaaneshi Warrior in pink, very cool :good: It'd go with the gold too, there's loads of Khorne ones about already. Go on, you know you want to really ;) I have a pot of the stuff, I shall have to keep this in mind for pinks, thank you.

The colours on the gold look good, the final highlight line a bit thick & stark perhaps? Pic is a bit small to be honest.

Cheers, B.

Your Nmm's are throwing me way off because if you look at the shield or his armor your have your highest contrast next to your lowest contrast and though this can work it doesn't on your due to the fact that your putting your darkest colors towards the top. The reason the masters do so well with NMM is because they treat it like light bouncing off metal. If you take a piece of silverware outside and move it horizontally you will see how the brightest point is a smaller line almost upon the instrument. My recomendation is before tackling NMM's you try to master some of the overall fundamentals. You are on the right road butyou do the same in your painting with the normal colors as you are doing with the NMM's. You have improved though since you began so cheers to you on that.

Thanks, Empchild. I know of one other painter in my area that did NMM (that just recently quit painting), so I try to learn by looking at other people's works. I know what you mean by the metals reflecting, but it's hard to paint.
