My First Mini

Thanks it's an interesting read - I do think it is to "lined" though.

I also found out by error that a sponge can add some cool weathering effect, so I will play some more with that :D

I painted a bit more today - but don't have any images. I had put another light on my table, but for some reason this made my painting worse (I blame the lamp).

I don't really know why but my painting skills have taken a huge dive since last time - and turning of the new lamp helped...

Might be lack of patience and my lack of ability to mix the paint the same way as the helmet that is really the reason behind the lack of quality.

Tomorrow is a new day..

I know how you feel, my paintings taking a plummet too! I blame getting older (31 this year, eeeek!) and stopping smoking! My hands shake like i'm holding a pneumatic drill instead of a paintbrush! I'm treating it as if im learning to paint for the first time again, stiff upper lip and all that!

I have worked a bit more on my painting skills and wanted to show some of the figures - nothing exciting but just trying out basic techniques.

I tried working with metal paints again today for the first time in a long long time - and I wanted the armor to look real, think I did a decent job. I could improve by adding some blue highlights to show the sky, but I don't find the metal paints to mix that well with normal color. Any feedback ideas how to improve the metal would be appreciated (so would pads on the back :D )

Here is the grey space marine with battle damage:

Not completly satisfied but it is ok - the blending/brushwork could be better..

Here to my latest - my try with metals as well as better blending.

p.s. sorry about the bad images but real metallics are hard to photograph. (tried to get it to look as much as real life as possible)

The color is looking good, youare making good progress with it. At one point all i had was a bunch of ancient GW mithril silver and i successfully recolored it with some equally old GW inks ( blacks and blues). I also used some cheap titanium white to lighten up the silver which seemed to work well...of course my standards are low at the moment ;)

Well it has been a while since I last posted something.. Quite a while actually. :D
I have been busy with anything but painting - but have kept improving and learning new thing. Recently I decided to try to improve my skills futher and to do that I got some new lamps as well as new brushes etc. YAY! :D

Well my main project since I started have been converting and painting all the Descent Into Darkness 2nd editon board game minis. That turned out to be quite a task - and I have yet to finish it. The minis are of rather low quality and the resin is actually a bit hard to paint on compared to citadel or other minis (don't really know why).

So I have decided to stop doing that project for a little while and focus on the painting - which I find to be the most relaxing and fun thing to do (as long as it's a fun project and a nice mini). For the new projects I bought parts for a Orc/Human Blood Bowl team and some minis for display pieces.

I really want to take better photos of my miniatures so I tested the camera and some lamps and have posted the images below. If anyone have any suggestions of what to improve they are most welcome.

p.s. the minis are the previously shown marine (boring but to compare to earlier image) and some of the painted descent minis.
