Long time collector, first time painter.. :o

I've collected alot over the years, but never dared to try my hand at painting, have 1 mashed up hand that doesn't have much agility, but, I got inspired recently by reading the Horus Heresy books, just couldn't get 'em out of my head, so I decided to invest in paint, and machines.

Haven't used the Dremel on my mini's yet, trying to get comfortable painting first, but will show a progress, and want advice on what I am missing:

First evah painted marine, this is a marine from the Space Crusade Squads, which you could hook up a tarantula turret to:

Second, since I am working on the colour scheme, my first Termie:

Thirdly, my third miniature, which I actually like, not sure about doing more to it:

I think this is a chronological order, now looking for more advice on how to progress as
a painter.. I have bungles, and bungles of miniatures, but this will be my scheme for my
Legion called Amatharine Angels, mark, not made yet, thus the blank white shoulders.. :)

Eyes on this last termie, unfinished, not sure about dry brushing it.. it looks good imho in RL
but, unsure how to progress.

Funnie pic from experimenting with dunking:

MOMMY!

And my very, very first paints, but theese are from 10 years ago:

This inquisitor is what I based everything on, like this:

The name, Amarathine Angels, was given to me, courtesy of the relicforums boards.. :)

But, looking for advice, suggestions, and whatnots.. Not good at painting, a total clueless n00b, but I have:

20 Space Crusade marines, with tarantula turrets *3
13 Mki Dreadnoughts
60 Beakie marines
20 Metal oldstyle ca 1992 terminators
5 librarians in terminator suits
2 Inquisitors in terminator suits
20 Space Crusade marines
10 space hulk original terminators
2 Mkiv space wolf squads in metal
2 mkv tactical squads in metal
5 old style predators
5 old style war walkers
What you'd call Eldar battle Force, but with old mini's
A new eldar battle force
5 newer style metal dreadnoughts
2 Revered new plastic dreadnoughts
1 plast new captain
1 plast new assault squad
A bungle of Space hulk Genestealers, and Genestealer hybrids from the first Space Hulk
expansion, and a patriarch.
A number of old First edition Space Hulk ugly arse Terminator Deathwings, theese are
really, really ugly plastics.

And, a number of unidentified Masters, Captains, Specials from ca 1994.

Alongside this, I have a 15000 point Epic Eldar army that my brother painted for me, it
looks really nice and is in the purple/gold theme, that is what I want to base my new,
and late painting on.. :D

And, I got a shitload to paint, so, as I said, after reading the horus heresy books, I just felt like, well.. getting started!

Need advice and suggestions, remember, I only got 1 hand to work with, it is really tricky
to paint them buggers on top of a can..

I am also short sighted on one eye, far sighted on the other, which makes close focus,
truly, and really painfull, but, I can get that to work with lenses.. :D

OH, and I also have this 9 inch eldar, no idea when it was made, that I really, really,
want to paint for my brother, since he painted me my epic army all those years ago, but
I can't figure out what craft world to use. I'll post a pic of it, and someone can suggest
a craftworld to use?

This is the miniature, it was bought some years ago:

Phew, that's a mangle of a first post. I realize I could use a better camera by now though.. :p

And bases, will finish bases..

And, chapter mark, if someone could make up a easy free hand chapter mark to put on all those white
shoulders? Amaranthine Angels.. :) :)

Dude thats the phoenix lord Asurmen! I think he was made by forgeworld and is quite sought after/expensive!

As for painting great start. My advice ( there are MANY better painters than i here) would be to read some of the articles on this site. Thinning your paint would be very good, as painting straight from the pot results in a thick covering.

Thank you! :)

And, looking at the name name, yeah, that does look like Asurmen! google piccies sure look like that!

Hey now, could he be worth some moneyz? :D :D

But, onto paint!

Thinner still? :)

On my first marine there, it was straight from the pot, dipped brush in water.

Second Termie, thinned all paints, dipped brush in water, with detergent.

Third Termie, used 1 drop of paint, 3 drops of water with detergent per paint.

I really liked the lightning on the lightning claws, tho, I figure I also need to learn how to take better pictures with my dang camera.. lol.. :) OR, clean the dang lense... :)

And, I guess, my goal is really, to get a semi, or better than semi, decent group of marines for table top going.

Then, I also have all theese, eldars... :p

Wow you have all my old Mini's. I miss the loads of stuff I collected over the years.

As for painting. I still have a ton of things to learn. But I can tell you this. CMON has a ton of good people and reading to help.
I agree alot with Master of Fact. Thinning your paints makes a huge difference.

Ive been using a wet palette and its been helping me alot. with not wasting paint, and mixing.
I even use it when I'm not blending.

I use a plastic sandwich container that I put a folder paper towel in. I get the paper towel wet but not too wet.
then I cut a piece of wax paper and put it on top of the wet paper towel.

here is a link that kind of explains it.

The only other thing i could recommend is take your time. Enjoy what your doing and don't rush it.

not bad at all for your first painting in 10 years. in fact, i suggest you keep working on those same models, i bet with a few hilights and touchups they could be really solid.
read everything you can.
welcome to the forums.

Huh.... I have that Asurmen model and had no idea what it was. It's half painted... perhaps I should finish and sell it....

sadly i must say that you will get one zillion dollar more for that biggie eldar thing it if you sell it untouched than if painted. unless you masterpaint it, that is... ;)

yeeeeha i havent seen so many drooling painters in quite a while carefull you dont get caught in the stampede for the piggy banks, if ya listen carefully you can almost hear the smash of hundreds of thousands of pot piggy's as we speak lol.

nice flanking manouvre there skel trying to stay ahead of the herd by offering your services as a master painter eheheheh

p.s. admittedly skel's the one who could paint the poop out of that thing for ya just make sure you get it back lol

lol cassar, you know im far to modest for such saying. :glasses-nerdy:
and, even though it is a pretty cool mini, eldar is not my cup of tea you know. theyre just to clean for my taste hehe

I'm sure that's true but it's been half done for a while now... I figured it would be better to finish it than to sell it half painted and it would be a great addition to my website if I can do a decent job on it..

honestly I would love to see what Taggi would do with it. I think it would come out insane!

Back on topic! Liljagare i seen you said you have the use of one hand. You could always mount the model on its base and glue to a cork or similar, then get some sort of clip or mount that spins, making it easier to hold and spin the model?

Off topic

Where the hell is Tagi? i i miss her input

On the termie's eyes, I think you may have gone too far out of the socket with the green, and then a bit more highlighting in the eye lens would be a nice finisher as well.
