Josh's WIP log - Will I actually post?

As a note, the dark part of the outside of the right eye (our right) isn't that dark, there's an actual shadow there from the sculpted eyeball in that pic.

Well this just keeps looking better and better. The hair is really coming together. There's a really noticeable leap in quality from the last picture to this one.

Thanks! I always say that everything looks like garbage until its 80% done, and it always feels good when you hit that tipping point. It's also partially a photo quality issue as I continue to experiment and improve my photo-taking ability.

I know what you mean. 50-80% is always my least favorite part of any project; the hopefulness from the start of the project is mostly gone, nothing looks good yet, and there's still a long way to go. Way to push through.

Dr. Bob

but not THAT Dr. Bob
Looks great! The eyes look good, and I'm very impressed by the veins under her skin. Kudos!

Are there? I can't actually see where you mean, either in the pics or in real life. Maybe I'm going blind...

anyway, i built/cleaned/based/primed my Malifaux Crossroads 7, all set to work on them next.

But then for some reason I was struck with inspiration about another model I've had primed and on a pin ready for painting for a while now, a different Malifaux model named Miss Anne Thrope:

I I built a base for her with some tentacles and a claw on the ground, as if to imply she has just dispatched some unspeakable nightmare beast that is laying mostly out of frame. Should be a cool scene when done, I mocked it up for now. I'll sand those sides flush when the GS is all cured, it's a little messy now:

Not sure if I'll work on her straight through or here and there while I do the Seven like I planned.

Rise from your grave, thread!

Spent this weekend NOVA Open, had a great time taking classes with Roman Lappat and Matt DiPietro, met Bailey and BloodAsMedium, and managed a bronze and two silvers at the Capitol Palette! Amazingly happy with the weekend.

Lucy here took Bronze: http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/12183

and the old Viking and Swift both took silvers: http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/12545

Congrats to Bailey and BloodAsMedium for their golds and silvers as well! Wonderful to meet you guys and see your work in person.

I came out of NOVA refreshed and excited to paint more. I spent the month beforehand speedpainting 40k models to get them done in time, and I am looking forward to my next couple display projects - getting notes and visions down, etc.

Here's what I'm in the planning phases for:

1: Gatecrasher - using FER's Random Encounter dwarf, as a planeswalking explorer. He'll be painted in warm, vibrant colors, as will the portal behind him, as if he has left his positive-energy home behind and is exploring a cold, dead world for the first time:

2: The Sword is MIne! A fun piece revolving around Black Sailors undead captain model, and probably to be painted in moody, dark tones, as if he's stealing this magic glowing demon sword in a cavern

3. Nutsplanet's Julius Caesar, painted as Emperor Commodus from Gladiator. This one is in early planning stage.

4. The amazing Boudicca bust, painted as the Morrigan from The Wicked and the Divine. I've done some small mods to the bust so far but nothing much.

5. Possibly starting work on my base and figure from Roman's basing class - my first though about the model was that it looked like Bruce Lee, so I decided to recast him in I Am Legend and work from there:

And of course I have tons of other projects that I have in various states of assembly and up to primed - I'm pretty bad about ADD on starting projects. Usually will only paint 2-3 at a time though - the rest stay on the shelf out of sight until inspiration strikes. :)

Glad your excited I was thinking bout the death guard - here's some good ol fashioned strategy winning crystal brush are a bit harder for guys like us. I consider myself a person who knows aspects of weathering pretty good. When I compete it's my weatherin vs others non mm vs their osl etc etc. One thing I had always thought about is picking models that others didn't. It's almost necessary . I failed my own advice last year when the new orks came out by GW and Sam lenz beat me bloody doing the same thing. Not to mention that Europeans could've easily picked it as well.as for death guard and primaris along with any of the dark imperiummodels ide stay clear as they both will be a hot pick by pros alike. When I did win units back in 2015 2016 I Rem I had picked models no one had. It's easier to have a chance when you and you alone set the standard for everyone els with a fresh look at things no one else has. The group you have above looks fresh and I haven't seen folks touch them yet at least as far as standards yet for a comp.something to consider if your a serious competitor when it comes down to it.
