If I\'d seen these two miniatures without knowing the history I would have thought that GIBBON\'s giant was a conversion using the FW one... As has been said - the lines are too similar to be mere coincidence.

GW crap on anyone who has (in their view) violated their IP, often these perceived infringements are utter bullshit. I can certainly understand why GIBBON would be pissed off at the double standard.

Well i have to say im with tammy on this one. Im sorry but whatever G I B B O N\'s artistic sensibilities may be, he hasnt exactly created the market for striding giants. I mean what does he want? A credit saying \"pose attributed to G I B B O N\"? Or on the other hand if you\'re worried about other people saying you ripped it off just have a removeable section that shows the cross section of the sculpt.

Im terribly sorry but as nice as your work is, and i do like it, i think its a bit arrogant to sit there having a sulk because GW have made a model with a similar pose.

GW\'s heavy-handedness when it comes to IP infringement (no matter how baseless) could have something to do with GIBBON\'s feelings regarding this issue.

Yup, I think that is the crux of the argument Arjay.

If GW wasn\'t so rabidly opposed to IP infringement, and seems to pursue it at high costs, I don\'t think I\'d have an issue with it.

But the fact that the FW studios asked for pictures of G I B B O N\'s work before their own Giant was sculpted seems to add a bit of fire to the argument.

GW nicks ideas all the time, which apparently seems to be fine, but the second the roles are reversed, it seems to be a crime. Hippocracy of the highest order!

Lastly....to say that there are NO similarities between the two giants makes me wonder what people are viewing....

Weeell, the FW giant was based off the OLD FW giant, having a couple of things done to it (the old one looks goofy).

Unfortunately I can\'t find a picture because it has obviously been replaced by this newer (and frankly better) one.

It is in the same pose as the old one as far as I know, but been bulked out because the old one was just TOO weedy.

This is the text from the FW email regarding the giant- MB didn\'t actually change much on the model at all....

Over the past few weeks Mark Bedford re-visited our Warhammer Giant. The idea was to make the Giant a bit more brutal and beast-like so with a small, thick browed head and funny numbers of fingers and toes yes, Mark has made the Giant a shambling, drooling monster, but a very dangerous one. Wielding the complete arm and counterweight from a trebuchet as a club, this new Giant still measures in at a healthy 215mm/8.5inches tall, more than enough height to dominate the battlefield and take pride of place among your army.

THe open mouth was on the METAL GW miniature before it was on the FW one, yelling is a GW fetish when it comes to miniatures;)

PS your giant is extremely well sculpted, and congrats for such a great effort.

After seeing the above giant, my mind has changed regarding this. I recall this giant and would have to say that FW could just as easily claim to have been inspired by this piece as much as Gibbon\'s piece. In fact, it looks a little to me like Gibbon was inspired by this earlier FW piece. But he said that he was inspired by nothing, so I won\'t jump to any conclusions here.

Hippocracy - is it:

a) Horses looking out for each other?
b) A government based on Hippopotami?
c) The act of creating a cordial from wine and spices?

Hm. yeah.. looks like the mainbody is more or less the same.

When I spoke about being inspired GW I said I don\'t think it matters much for me. Everybody\'s inspired by everybody. But I think Arjay definately have a point. It is GW copyright police that is the problem, or else this topic wouldn\'t even have been an issue.

As far as I am concerned, they ripped the guy off. When Reaper used a pose from one of Rackham\'s Fiona everyone said it was a copy. Even thought she had different clothes and her sword wasn\'t quite like the Rackham\'s model.
This is the same situation except now its one of the \"little guys\" getting copied. Could it be...hypocrisy?

Yeah, when I-Kore did it with Rackham\'s Fiannas there was a proper rumpus. They basically gave photos to the sculptor and said \'something similar please!\'. Rackham were pissed iirc!

Bit of an interesting thing that because if im not mistaken it won or was at least entered into the golden deamons and i beleive it has been in the fine print of the rules for a fair while that basically once the model is entered into the deamons, they have certain rights to the model, not of detainment but of photography and printing certainly and i seem to remember that essentially the model in some way becomes intellectual property as well.

Regardless, that i do admit is a bit of a rip. The Giant on the other hand, while i do not deny the similarities i dont beleive is an intentional rip off. (happy now spacemunkie? )

The question remains unanswered: Is your one in production, and if not why not?

Remove any Nurglesque iconography and get it cast up. It\'s too good not to.

Or you could sell the green. If so, what kind of price would you be looking for?

I think giant walking forward is tough to do not looking like these other versions. You can cover it in odd bits, with horns and extra limbs or you can do something like
this

More giants walking forward

Voltan, you just proved Mr. Gibbon\'s point....not one of those Giants looked anything like the one he has sculpted, and yet the FW one does....much more so than anything you have shown us.

Are you sure that was your intention?;)

Oh, and as for the \"Nurgle Icon\"...I had no idea what that meant so I just looked it up.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA if anyone here thinks that the EE can get away with copyrighting 3 circular holes then they are on crack!lol
