So, I was absent on the forums for a long time, but when I saw THAT, I just couldn\'t resist...
About 3 years ago on Warsaw\'s (Poland) mini painting contest I\'ve spoken with Mark Bedford from Forgeworld, who was a special guest then. He liked my giant alot, and asked me to send him the pictures of it to FW. So I did. I asked the FW staff to tell me if it\'s good sculp or not, to give me some tips etc. Din not receive any response to that.
And now look at that! I like people who makes nice minis, but I hate those who steals concepts. His so-called \"new\" (!) giant has even the same pose as mine. And look at the head and face... shit! Dunno if that guy has no enough good ideas by himself, but I think it\'s gone too far.
From now on I\'ll boycott EVERY product of that hopeless company of idea-thieves. Pathetic...

I dunno, I\'m not sure they\'ve copied you

Yours in very nurglesque, while theirs is generic. I agree scalewise they are VERY similar (but then again I would have thought FW would be making their one to a similar size as their old giant), and both have the outstretched arm and reasonably similar facial expressions.

However, if I were in your position, I would probably feel rather annoyed at them too

The sculpt on the face of your giant is absolutely incredible btw, all the wrinkles in the skin etc

Bollocks!

GW stamp on people for less than this (UltraForge being a fine example, and their Nurglesque thing wasn\'t even close to anything GW produce...). A set-in-stone case of double standards. It\'s obviously influenced by Mr G I B B O N\'s effort. Comments on other forums have even stated that it looks like it should be a zombie giant.

Utter shit kickers. That\'s what you get for trusting a right set of c***s.

KingM was actually being nice, I\'ll state it more bluntly, there is no way those two minis are even remotely alike. No way, so shape and no form. None! Nada! Nill! The absolute zero!

Let\'s go top down and compare the minis.

Heads (1) (2)

Horns (No) (Yes)

Eyes (Exceptionally Inset) (Sewn shut)

Earring (Present) (Absent)

Nose (Fat) (Pointed)

Lower Jaw (Oversized) (Normal)

Belly (Pot belly) (Distended lower belly)

Right leg (trailing left leg) (leading left leg)

Feet (toes showing) (wrapped up)

Weapon (Yes) (No)

So what exactly is the same between the two minis ... nothing that I can see. These aren\'t the minis you are looking for. You can move along now.

The concept is utterly influenced! We\'re not talking about an exact copy, but the overall look is tea-leafed.

The thing was designed by Mark Bedford, the very same person who the photos were sent to. Anyone who can\'t see the visual cues that have been knicked has a pretty dull eye if you ask me....

This sort of thing is incredibly poor form, especially when it\'s the work of an individual. GW get away with plundering popular movies, comics and illustrators as it is. Now they seem to expect to be able to lift concepts from anywhere they like. Wish someone would spank \'em.

I don\'t say it\'s an obvious case at all. It seems more that both of them are inspired by the \"Dogs of war\" giants. Both in posing and design.

But as it is the same guy, it is probably true that he was inspired to some degree by it. But.. if i\'d copied anything from the nurgle it would have been the really nice attention to details, not the posing. my 2 öres

Hmmm tough one.

I think the guy has nicked your idea a bit but I think he has covered his tracks well with the sculpt.
OK there are similarities but there seem to be more differences.

To be honest if I didn\'t know you send a picture to the gw guy who designed the forgeworld giant I wouldn\'t even have noticed the simularities.
I probably would have disgarded it as the simularities all sculpts of a same type will logically have... Like elves often look alike in a few area\'s, certain poses are logic, certain elements that are linked to certain characters will often return. I don\'t wanna use the word cliche here for it has a way to negative ring to it... I rather mean established visuals for characters of certain types.

But knowing you did send the pictures... Yes I see simularities in bodytype and general proportions... and I can imagine him being inspired by your work (which I agree with Avalon is better than the Forgeworld one (great sculpting no doubt)), but I wouldn\'t go as far as saying it\'s copied.

What is your image of giant? Where did that come from? Did you \"steal\" it from someone? Only similarity that looks suspicious to me is the pot-belly look.

One of those looks a lot like
rackham_giant1.jpg

to me.

Gee.. 2 screaming giants walking forwards.. who\'da thunk it ?

You can rest assured yours is gazillion times better :D

When I first looked at the side-by-side pics, I thought you were going to say you had bought one of the gray giants and improved it and made it an undead with GS.

Here\'s another thing...

anybody play Red Alert 2 and the expansion Yuri\'S Revenge? Then maybe you know the boomer subs.
I wrote the code for those.
I made a mod that incorporated something I dubbed \"Boomer\" - though it was a tank and not a sub, the code is the same, with the same handle and the same weapons, instead for the locomoter, model and those things that are required to make a sub from a tank.
Who cares? They never gave me credit but then again, whatever. Could be a coincidence, but it looks incredibly like my code.

Same with your giant. It feels the same, you know? But then again, what could you actually do? Not a thing. So just forget it and revel in the fact that your is better :D

There are some simliarities, but those apear to be mostly in positioning. The way its walking, its pot belly (pots are sexxy lol), how it is slightly hunching forward.

The one thing I notice that is not at all simliar is the sculping yours is incredible while the FW one is very basic, nothing outstanding.

When I was starting with that sculpt there was no such thing as \"Dogs of War\", so... it\'s not inspired by ANYTHING. The project was \"live\" made. The idea was growing in the process...

And thx alot for your comments. Of course it\'s NOT the exact copy, but that\'s not the point, as some of you have noticed.
It\'s a matter of pose, face look, legs positioning, belly and so on. And I\'m really dissapointed that company with which I\'ve started my adventure with minis copies projects of other people. And they say: \"model designed by...\" which is obviously NOT TRUE.

well, they`re a bit similar but I don`t consider FW stuff as a copy of your splendid (and much better) work. To be honest for me it looks like converted their previous giant. The same body with a bit of repositioning, head swap and some extar details ( the arms are not naked now etc).
Also I think that telling you weren`t inspired by anything might not be so enirely true. IMHO we`re almost ALWAYS inspired by something even tiny, tiny bit.
And sorry Gibbon I think all this sound wasn`t really needed IMHO, altough I undertsand your frustration. Most of us has noticed what happened with GW and such stories no longer surprises me (no matter true or not).
Pity for FW - they could have had cool chaos giant from you but ended up with rather uncool one...

just my 2 cents ;)
