Green Stuff, Friend or foe?

Spider glue...

I have a modest collection of tarantulas (Not the old GW kind) and although I have never needed to use it, I understand superglue is the number one repair method for damaged arachnids;).

Strangely, I too live in France and have heard lots of stories about GS...

If it\'s illegal, why do so much shops sell it? I regularly buy GS in shops ans never had any problems to get some (except some delays in the deliveries)...

Furthermore, Rackham doesn\'t use GS for sculpting but Fimo...

Humm guess that the store owner was missinformed, I\'ll do a small research and go tell him if it is legal in France. :D Oh well the replacement stuff he sold me instead works pretty well too, it\'s cald andrea sculpt. :)

Hi, I work for Polymeric Systems, the manufacturer of Green Stuff - we call it Kneadatite Blue/Yellow. We have manufactured Green Stuff for over 25 years.

Thank you for all of your posts. Kneadatite is not toxic. Compared to other art materials, Green Stuff contains no solvents, is not flammable and has virtually no odor. For those with sensitive skin or those who use Green Stuff continuously we recommend using rubber gloves when mixing. Also, wash hands after using. This advice would apply to any compound that comes in contact with the skin.

We have never been told that Green Stuff is not allowed in France. This does not seem to make sense. I know from visiting France last year that there are many general purpose epoxy putties being sold in stores like Castorama. Green Stuff is at least as safe as these items.

Thank you again for all of your posts and please feel free to send questions to us at info@polymericsystem.com or visit our web site at www. polymericsystems.com

Green stuff...where can I get me some?

Hey All!
Im new to this website but not new to mini-modeling. Ive been in the toy prototype industry for a long while now & have done this sort of stuff for even longer.
For some time now Ive been using Alumilites \"Apoxie Sculpt\"( awesome stuff by the way!) for doing conversions an such but I was wondering if maybe this \"green stuff\" that everyone makes their master patterns out of is better? ???If its better, then Id love to get some ! Is it something I can get from my local hobby store or do I have to special order it from somewhere?
I love to convert & paint minis but sadly have been on Hiatus from the hobby for a couple years. Coming back to something you love is always great but its even better when that thing you love can be made greater still by new knowledge!
So, if anyone can enlighten me & help me to achieve greater heights of kick-butt mini modeling...Thanks in advance!!

aha!

As I was reading this thread, I was hoping Bob would swoop in and save the day. Saved me some research. :)

Here are some things I remember offhand, though:

Brown stuff (also Kneadatite, also by Polymerics) works better than green for machined or hard-edged surfaces (weapons, mechs, etc). It no longer contains aluminum powder -- Polymerics was kind enough to change the formula when some sculptors noted that it got in the way.

A couple good places to get GS in the US:

http://www.fortressfigures.com
http://www.jeffvalentstudios.com

A good place to get GS in the UK:
http://www.heresyminiatures.com

For other info and sources, check out the 1listsculpting Yahoo group FAQ:

http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/1listsculpting

Once I finally got to watch some people sculpt, I started getting into sculpting much more than painting. . . .

what i want to know is can bob get us staff discount if we buy from him??!!

what about it eh bob?

i have superglued cuts before but they tend not to hold for long. i think its because of the bleeding. i was hit in the face with a squash raquet once and the a+e nurse didn\'t stich but glued it. it was a pain in the arse coz i couldn\'t get it wet for a week. you try washing your face and hair without getting your eyebrow wet! i had to tape a plastic bag over my eye to protect it! what a fool

supr glue not skin glue

I was told the superglue sticking wounds together was an urban myth and it\'s NOT the same stuff as used in hospitals. In fact it was \'invented\' by someone experimenting to find better lubricants using between microscope slides, then one lubricant actually bonded the two slides together and tada superglue was born. The fact that my tube of glue has a big orange square bith a big black cross on and the word IRRITANT in capital letters makes me believe the latter but who knows

a cake from tesco\'s had a lable on the bottom of the product box saying: do not turn over - \"whoops! too late!\"

and the best one of all...

on a swedish chainsaw:
\"Do not atempt to stop moving blade with hands or genitals\" - \"hmmm... how shall I turn off this chainsaw... I know!..

Ouch.

I can\'t help but make a mental connection, especially upon readin the last post, between sweedish chainsaws and sweedish meatballs.

ps. I don\'t think they use mercury in fillings anymore. That would be insane. That would be like using mercury in flu-vaccines. Oh, wait, they do use mercury...

Slightly OT

leave it to an american to spill coffee on themselves and get burned and sue Mcdonalds and win! I think it\'s because we have so many f****** lawyers too.

There\'s more to the \"spilled coffee lawsuit\" than meets the eye. The woman suffered second and third-degree burns to her thighs from the coffee which was scalding hot. It was later proved that Mickey Dee\'s had a policy of deliberately keeping coffee that hot because it produced a stronger aroma which was believed to make people want to buy more coffee. In other words, they knowingly endangered their customers (easy to spill on yourself trying to add creamer at the drive-thru window!) to boost sales. Sounds like \"grounds\" for a lawsuit to me.

have to ask

Is green stuff that different from the blue/white? Because I\'ve used blue/white and I think it sucks. I\'d rather sculpt with sculpey and then cook it. The only problem is I can\'t use sculpey for conversions because I\'ll melt the plastic during the cooking process.

My blue/white stuff is lumpy and it hardens just about ten seconds after I apply it to the mini. I\'ve tried working with it in warm water, but that only made it last about a minute longer than normal. I\'m trying to learn to sculpt in this tiny scale, but I\'m having no luck with blue/white.

OK, what about the Jackass who put his RV on cruise control then walked into the back to fix himself some coffee, RV goes off the road, and he sues and wins. All because the owners manual didn\'t say you could not do this.

Get real these idiots and their lawyers need to be shot....Or at least neutered so they don\'t continue to damage the human gene pool.

Um, I don\'t think you should believe everything you read.

I\'ve heard that \"true story\" of the person putting their RV on cruise control then heading to the sh*tter in about 10 different versions from about 20 different people, all insisting that the story was true, because a friend of theirs knew the guy. I don\'t buy it.

If it did happen then the person it happened to is an idiot. Furthermore, he deserves to win a fortune, but not from the RV manufacturer. He deserves to win a fortune from the state because he\'s obviously mentally challenged and should never have been given a license. But I still don\'t believe it happened.

Lawyers aren\'t any worse than anyone else. If someone gets a lawyer and sews you for a ridiculous reason what are you going to do? I\'m going to get a lawyer.

If you want to hate a profession hate money lenders.

Yeah but...

It was probably the other lawyer who said hey you can sue for millions, of course you are going to get a defense lawyer but it is the frivilous lawsuit lawyers that need to be brought out back and shot.
I mean c\'mon...inmates sueing because of crunchy instead of smooth peanut butter and for not having all the expensive channels on their cable??? AND WINNING? That is just sad...
Or even better...if not the lawyers, cap the judges that award dumb ass lawsuits. They could throw it out and save a lot of time, money, and exposure to stupidity.

ok

Ok, I don\'t have a problem with you saying that some people win outlandish, ridiculous lawsuits. My problem is with blanket statements that condemn everyone in a group. That\'s hate material man.

If I believed every blanket statement I read then I would be a lazy freeloader because I work for the government, an over sexed drug addict because I\'m a musician, and a devil worshipper because I like fantasy games. And none of those are true... well, not completely.:D

I think that both parties are equally stupid. Though I think we all learned two very important lessons.
a) Don\'t put creamer in a cup marked HOT! when you drive.
...and...
b) If you want to sell coffee with smell, set up a Folgers coffee-can and a fan (save money on air conditioning too if you get a large one).

I think it\'s because we have so many f****** lawyers too.

I know this has been said before, but...becarefull of who you insult on the internet. There are three lawyers on these forums, not to mention ChernAnn (the site owner/operator).

Is green stuff that different from the blue/white?

YES! Very Different. Less tacky when mixed well, takes a bit longer to cure (but not too long), MUCH easier to mold, no lumps that I\'ve seen. Until you get some of the Blue/Yellow mix, here\'s some tips.
a) (This goes for both mixes) Keep fingers and tools wet
b) Have everything ready before hand (idea/armeture/ect.)

The Green Stuff

Yeah... the green stuff is much better than the blue/white stuff. The blue white stuff seems to crumble easier when it is dry.

Has anyone here used Milliput for sculpting? I\'ve used it for filling in gaps etc and have been very happy with it but I haven\'t tried any major conversions with it yet.
