On the primarch project--there were both primarchs and pre-heresy heros. For example in the photos posted earlier, the first photo is Kharn before the heresy.
The actual primachs were all fully scuplted, not mods. They were BIG, between 48 mm to 54 mm to the eyes. They dwarfed Jeremie\'s harlequin. I am hoping that the GW guys got photos of them all and put them together in WD so we can see the full scope and beauty of the project. Also, it looks like most of the Primarchs were on Dragon Forge wood display plinths that also helped unify the effort.
There were many high quality forgeword seige of vraks models. There were two Beserker Ogryn squads that were very well done, several Death Corp., including Nathan Comanse\'s heavy tank with DKK infantry (including some grenadiers) riding on top and Matt\'s brilliant Death Rider.
Matt was incredibly happy to have placed in 40k singles with a stock model, no conversions. He was competing against primarchs after all, but his piece was very compelling and it was a well deserved bronze in a tough, tough category.
My own Vraks renegade sergeant also made first cut in 40k (nothing close to Jeremie or Chris or Matt\'s skill so they have nothing to fear from me), but it made me very happy to have my mini share the case with such awesome pieces.
I have been going to US Games Days since \'98 and can definitively say that this was the best ever in terms of quality. Even with the European\'s coming over, the quality of the U.S. entries jumped dramatically this year across the board. I am certain CMON has had a big effect on this. I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet several CMONs IRL, including Alan C., Manumilitar, Borgio, Werwolf and others while in France in June (they were not in Chicago) and Jeremie, Matt, Joe Orteza, Tom Schladle and Mike Butcher and others (who were in Chicago) over the weekend . Many of the \"stars\" in mini-painting are very happy to talk with those of us with little talent and pass on tips and critiques. This collegiality has helped spiral up quality.
FYI, I also saw Jen Haley hanging out with Team North America, though she did not enter. Too busy with pro stuff, I guess.
I did not have a camera, so I cannot help with pics. Sorry to be such a tease with only prose.
