Lol Katryn, i saw all of those aswell. The japs actually made an awesome live action version of Yamato.

And yes, most of them have large naked flying boobs....

Luckily my girlfriend likes those things, more then i do actually. She has 3 posters of anime babes over our bed.

And pardon me for asking, but arn't most minis of hunky guys in some or other shape or form. Granted not alot of naked ones with the wedding vegetables swinging between the knees, but still

lol! Not that many actually. The ones that show the most promise end up going off the deep end more often than not. Some of the Conan ones are cool - the ones based on the artwork not Arnie. Others are okay - but nothing that I want to buy because it would be fun to paint.

And I think we hijacked Elric's thread sufficiently. ;)

haha thats ok, not much progress today anyway, just some experiment on a drybrushed skin skaven. I cant believe I found someone else who knows Elric! Another thing my dad got me into when i was very young and its still my favorite series! This thread is far cooler than it was before anime and witchblade talk! Before I forget, yes i do remember Darkness, used to have alot of those as well. Comics just arent what they used to be man, i feel lost in a comic shop now. Im wondering, how should I deal with witchblade's armor? My initial thought was to use my vallejo metal medium and concoct come custom blueish black colors, but im not sure what to use.

lol! Elric is a classic, it should be required reading for anyone who considers themselves a fan of the scifi/fantasy genre. ;)

As for the armor, I would try some bluish green metallics. You can mix your own colors and mix dark for shading, and light for highlighting. I'd also try a black wash...maybe different colors as well, I don't know, I'd have to see how it looks. Highlight up to silver, and have gold accents. One thing I'm finding out with my dragon, with metallics, contrast is more than just light and dark, it's shine vs. flat too. So use paint glazes as wash, not inks because of the shine factor.

I found that out the hard way with the glazing. i was trying a technique using glaze medium on true metallics, ugh it looked so horrible. Ive gotta find some without a gloss finish, because that just didnt do it for me whatsoever. I really appreciate the tips, true metal ive never been happy with but i dont like the look of nmm.

Hang on...glazing doesn't necessarily mean gloss. Or at least the way I learned...it could be different from what you learned. ;)

If I may derail your thread one more time to show you an example of what I mean. I started this Anubis critter before I knew about the shine vs. flat.

Now, I just added a brown paint glaze - very thin, very flat.

Now I have to go in and add some highlights, but do you see what I'm saying now? lol! It's kinda hard to explain. But it gives it more depth and texture...at least that's where I'm trying to go with it. You can really see the difference in the chain and on the loincloth thing...and the lower legs. Hope this helps. :D

Oh ya i totally get it, i think I confused you by what I was saying:p The glazing medium is just a medium that i used to help the paint flow instead of pool when doing the color glazes (different meaning here, this is what i think you mean, glazing the very thin color) that I used on my silver. I glazed with blue, brown and red, but the glazing medium i used to make sure the thin paint didnt pool, turned the washed shiny, so the shadows looked like they had been dipped in nail polish.

Ah okay - I gotcha! Like I've been using Mop N Glo (similar to Future floor polish) to thin ink washes and what not. I have Liquitex Matte Medium that I've added to the mix and that nukes any shine. It also acts as a flow aid but not as nice as the Mop N Glo...so maybe that will work for ya. ;)

*Ahem* Nice painting on all the little projects mate, that's some good stuff.

haha, thanks for bringing this thread back around Meph, appreciate the comments as well! Mop n Glo, I will totally give that a shot, the matte medium too. I have it but ive never tried using it as a flow enhancer i just have flo-aid mixed in with my water i thin with, it just never seemed to stop the pooling of washes and glazes that always turn my metal to crap!

Ugh its been awhile. Life has gotten in the way of painting, that, and Im ramping up for halloween (im a carver enthusiast) but that didnt stop me from buying and assembling the new Ogre Kingdom thundertusk/stonehorn. I assembled it as the thundertusk, he's all primed and ready to go and hopefully tonight I will mercilessly assult the beast with my airbrush.

Finally, some pictures! Here's the thundertusk, skin basecoated, fur nearly done. The fur was done with my airbrush, and if i had color balanced the photos you would see that there is more depth there than what it looks like, ah well :D

I know :( I spent so long filling gaps literally hours filling what i could find, i just spent so long doing it in one sitting that i zoned out on it. I'm not sure how to go about filling the gaps after ive already painted the fur the way i want it, any suggestions?

If the gaps are not too large, a gap filling super glue ( medium or thick consistency) might do the job with minimal damage to the surrounding paint. Then it would just be a matter of painting over the super glue.

Well, that'll teach me to try and rush anything. The thundertusk is sitting in a bath of simple green as we speak. Time to start over!

Well rats! Too late now. The gaps on the thundertusk are a pain but can be dealt with. Green stuff or Apoxie Sculpt and brush on Vallejo primer and you're good to go.

I think what looked like gaps in the one picture straight on was really just the shadow edge from the straps. I do the one in side view though, I just gave mine an extra dose of gap filler and hand clamping when glueing mine. You could run a bead of gap filler along that edge. I am interested to see your progress since you painted yours brown. I was going to paint mine white and just add wash to the fur.

Well he's been sitting in simple green for a few days now, almost all the paint is gone and the crappy excuse for gap filling i did is starting to come off. I will use milliput this time i think, I've learned i absolutely suck at using straight up green stuff. I have all the tools, use water and all that, but i always seem to mess it up and can never make a seamless transition.

Ah well, live and learn! I'll hopefully be able to re-assemble him today or tomorrow and start the gap filling again with the milliput. Thanks for the input guys, oh and you're right about the gaps on the strap area ugly bug, they werent gaps at all (from assembly anyway) thats just the way the model was scuplted in that area, but i still had horribe gaps everywhere else :p

Not too long ago I had a thread going on my troubles with GS and other products. Folks gave me some fantastic advice and it completely changed my gap-filling/sculpting. Try a search and see if you can dig it up, it will help tons!
