It looks good, and you can go even brighter. Pull up the highest highlights to off-white or even white, that will make it pop.

A trick that worked for me - when thinning the light colors, if you can't get it right and they turn chalky, use a medium instead of water

In the meantime, I have finished his head. I may come back to it once I have other sections done and can get a feel for the rest of the model.

That's me boy!!! Great stuff! This is not a tip for your or about your technique cause you seem to have command of that aspect. What it is is an idea ,to break up the face abut and draw the eye to the face permanently (the focal point of each and every mini) is by making some dark brown and work it into the nose that little bitty nose on all rodents, canines, even larger mammals like bear and equines .a color to you that comes to mind is rhinox hide and or scorched brown, burnt sienna etc. and have that blended into the snout . And also like on my shaven oblong the last bit of snout to add little black dots to simulate whiskers. Now that is what separates well painted and well blended models from unbelievably well painted well blended models. It doesn't need this its just an idea to show viewers that your more conciencous and more astute and attuned to detailing your minis. This is a favorite idea of mine ,simply because ,as painting with a realist style, it appears much more lifelike and not just a well painted model. Great job all in all.

over the last couple of days I have made a start on the clothes. I'm quite happy with how the top section is working out but the lower half is not gong so well, so need to have another go. I started from my darkest colour and built up to the light, but looking now I think I need to take the deeper shadows further.

but yes I find placing light really tricky but I think its in about the right place so I should have decent enough base to work from.

any comments and crits will always be very welcome though.

cheers for looking

more progress, blending on the tunic has been smoothed and contrast in the lower half is stronger, I have also based the staff pole ready for blending.

trying to decide on a colour for the end bit of the staff, I was going to go with bronze/gold, but I might go for green. he will be standing on the a golden bronze screaming bell though so maybe better to match that (?)

cheers for any feedback and comments etc.

Your doing great what you could do is bronze gold -shaded with a biel tan green- that would give you both colors and would work well too. You have quite enough experience to make the call Yoself my man. You got this if I tell you how many times and still today I become hesitant and so scared I'm gonna mess up an already great job ... Only to find that I should have confident in my skills cause of countless times trying new things have really set some models in the"much much better" zone after attempting something. You can do it mate just like you made the call to deepen the shadows in the lower tunic. I'm telling you coyote your skills are very good too pull off anything you like. Keep going.

Looking fantastic! Love the white in his face, it makes him seem old and seer-y. You're nailing this one.
