Brushes: To Lick or not to Lick?

Licking a brush to get a point on it after it\'s been rinsed and cleaned is fine; I can live with that. Personally, I use my fingers and/or hands and gently roll the brushes to get a point on them, but that\'s just how I do it.

Licking it while it\'s still full of paint? I just don\'t understand that. And while it may mean that I\'ll be nothing more than a mediocre painter for the rest of my life (or however long I\'m into the hobby), I\'m willing to accept that.

So, go ahead and lick your brushes, you brush-licking brush-lickers. :p

Of course! :p

And the point, for me at least (and there really IS a point here...), is that I often want the same paint in various stages of dilution when I use it. So, I mix the paint in a rather thick consistency on the pallette (slightly thicker than I would use for the base coat). Then I vary the consistency by storing different amount of moist in the brush before dipping it in the paint. By licking the brush with paint on it I can instantly change the dilution and maintain a fairly good control over how much and how much paint I have on the brush. It is very convenient! :)

I admit I don\'t understand the folks that lick paint loaded ones, but i lick my brush after it goes in the rinse water.

That helps retain the point.

I also lick my sculpting tools one those few occassions I tried sculpting.

Same, I lick my brush after I\'ve washed the paint off of it, I just don\'t want to lick the paint itself.
I admit, I don\'t lick my sculpting tool, I\'ve been warned against it by my local GW (ah, what would they know, they charge outrageous prices and give you bad advice!)

It is not recommended to lick your sculpting tools as most putties (every one I know of at least) are toxic. That being said, I lick my sculpting tools anyway...

Sounds like Ritual has an oral fixation. A condition most commonly found amongst those who smoke :p

You don\'t stick the mini\'s in your mouth to clean them off, do you? lol

No, I don\'t smoke (never have) and I don\'t put my minis into my mouth! :p I just find my tongue a useful tool, that\'s all! But as with all tools, it\'s important to know when it is appropriate to use it! :)

I do this too, a very quick and easy way to do a blend without ever having to return to the palate.

I am going to go ahead and agree with everything Anders has said in this thread, and everything he will say as well. :)

If it means being able to paint like Anders and Eric, heck, even I might sample a little paint while it\'s still on the brush...

Obviously, it can\'t be bad!

:eek: didn’t know Vikey was that flexible..... I’m seeing him in a whole new light.

Having *F* up my blood platelet count back in collage which made me sicker then a dog ( unsafe handling of toxic solvents from my art classes).... I keep all paint and other solvents on the brush and not in my body. :possessed:
