So I finished my first sculpt after letting it sit for over a year....Then I remembered I had started this thread. So to continue the flow....
Now I'm itching to go for my second sculpt. No painting updates whatsover at this point. Not sure if or when I will get back to painting anything other than this next sculpting adventure.
Anyways, roughly 90mm scale wise. Assassin/thief/sneaky stabby stab/adventuring/looting/run amok/ general mayhem type guy.... The base is just a thought. Kind of a castle wall/ledge overlooking....something. The overhang will probably be further out. Might put a wall or a doorway at the back. Really early at this point.

I will hopefully get back to taking decent pictures sooner rather than later but you'll just have to deal with it for now. :)

As always, constructive feedback is welcomed.
Thanks for looking!

Was way too tired to take pictures last night. I got the basic layout of the base finished. Will probably add some detail(s) to it at some point. Again, sorry for the total crap pics.

Hey folks, long time no type!!! I took a break for a while after my chaos warrior sculpt and a few other minor things to work on some other stuff, as well as nothing at all lol. Here lately, I've been very curious about painting larger scale figgies and busts. I also started to get an urge to try and sculpt a face.... I was quite terrified of the idea of even trying it but I did anyways. I've bought a couple of busts to paint and once those came in, I had (what I thought) was an epic idea! I decided I would try to sculpt a larger scale, in this case about 1/6, bust of what I imagine my Chaos Warrior, or any other Chaos Warrior would look like without his helmet on. I may not end up with the exact same helmet/armor design but may go much more chaos-y. To be determined. Anyways, here's a few half decent pics you can take a look at. Keep in mind a couple things, this is my first head sculpt, my first 1/6 scale anything, and above all, it's not quite finished. Still a little more work to do. After that, all make a mold and cast a copy in resin so that I can do the final clean up and smoothing, add some hair maybe, and then I can started on the rest.
As always, thanks for looking and let me know what you think!!!

This is similar to the armature I used. (This one is a little bit sturdier)

woh not bad, and inspiring! i think you should build up the nose a little, i am pretty certain that even if the nose have rotten off there is still some more height from the bone. and some more cheekbone and jaw perhaps?

solid texturing on the upper head :good:

Thanks Skelle! I knew there was something wrong with the nose, I just couldn't quite figure out what it was. Where exactly are you thinking it needs more for the cheekbone and jaw? The look I was going for was kind of a unhealthy, almost malnourished kind of a guy which is why his skin is thin and sunk, where you can see lower part of the eye socket bone thing on the left side. As far as the texturing, that was just the plastic handle of my scalpel rolled/pressed/tapped in. I thought it worked pretty well!

Well here is a small update. Did a little reshaping on the nose and right side of lower jaw. I also started adding the shoulder area. Pay no attention to the shape of them, they're just roughed in at the moment. Plus, they won't bee seen once finished anyways, so there is no reason to get them smooth smooth. Still have some work to do on the face overall. Smoothing, cleaning up, etc. before I cast it. Also, it's probably too hard to tell from these angles, but I'm curious if anyone else thinks his neck is too tall/long? I can't make up my mind on it.... I also have the goblin from Scibor, and the Sad Knight from Nocturna sitting on the bench. I'll hopefully get started on those as soon as my paint order shows up. Decided to try the Andrea sets. Flesh and Green for now. Heard they're pretty decent.
Anyways, by all means let me know what you think! Thanks all!

I don't think that the neck is too long, but I do think it's too thin--even for a malnourished guy! If anything, his shoulders look a little drawn up and his neck seems a tad short, but that could just be the angle of the pic.

Looking really neat overall, I'm digging that asymmetrical face. Excited to see more!

Thanks Sionid. Yea the shoulder are just sort of blocked in right now. They are too wide also. I think your right about the neck being too thin. That might cure itself a little once I get the shoulders worked a little.

Hey man, I'd say you need to look at a little more reference material. The body is looking a bit blocky as you haven't really roughed in the trapezoids, clavicals or any real musculature. It may help to build up from a base rather than carve away at a block. You can better control your shapes and get a better result quicker. Keep it up though mate he's looking great

I appreciate the help Darth! I am pretty new to sculpting and really don't have a grip on musculature at this point. I just roughed them in for the moment. They still need a fair amount of work even though they won't be seen once I do the armor. It's not bad carving that stuff anyways. It's one of the most awesome materials I've ever worked with, not that I have a lot of experience with other materials tho lol.

No worries dude. I've never worked with any of the new clay's or sculpting mediums (other than green stuff which I find impossible to do anything with) Many years ago I did a life sculpting class working with clay and our tutor always got us to start from a small lump and only add tiny bits of clay at a time. This way we built up shape, volume and definition and added detail later. I found it really helped as the basic form was always fleshed out first which always gave a better finished article. But then firing the clay was always a pain in the arse!

That's exactly what I did to get the head where it is. Started with a brass wire loop, and just started throwing little chunks of clay at it until it started to look like something lol. Luckily, I don't have to fire this clay. That's also a sort of negative about it tho, it stays workable. Fire would be BAD for this stuff. At least bad once you have something made.
