Huge Black Dragon
I had so much fun painting my last green dragon that I had to do another dragon. I picked up this black dragon years ago and a second one a year or so ago on sale in at a comic store in Minneapolis. I put both together with help from a dremmel. (Very important on a model which frankly doesn't fit well together, to put it mildly.) After a few nights of putty work, I painted it up with help from an airbrush and many thin black ink washes. There are slight coloration differences on the model; the wings are dark blue with a bit of green. I did the same 3" huge base as what I did on my Green Dragon. This time I added some clear resin and a skeleton in the base to make it look a bit more like a swamp, the typical home for a Black Dragon in the D&D world. This was painted in May 2004. I've written an article on how I made the base: http://www.coolminiornot.com/go.php?go=articlephp&aid=244 Things to note -- blending of the white horns to black by the head. The figure is normally supported by the tail; my base makes him free-standing and more aggressive. There is a miniature submerged in the water in the base, but you need to look at the article for the alternate shot.
