Why chiks in fantasy are half/completely naked???

Sum up

Wow, there are some quite nice points:)

Ok, to sum up a bit (to stay in focus):

- Basically sex sells and nowdays this \'marketing strategy\' is applied almost to everything (so we can soon espect an advertaisment where a naked chik with big boobs convinces us on how Alpine milk is healthy and we should buy it-the next stage will be when a naked chik will convince us on TV about how Bush has a brain...)

- Women body/form is more elegant and in general attractive to represent in most arts (and we can define our hobby some new form of modern art), due to the rounder forms and nice shadings... (however for me it\'s more difficult to draw a nice looking woman, than a nice looking man, but I suppose that\'s a matter of practice)

- Our western capitalistic society developed from a long patriarchal hystory, where males where the dominant gender and had most of the buying power (nmoney, since women were supposed to stay home producing and nursing children at repetition (well in some cultures that applies still now), therefore it\'s somehow logical that the sex advertizing has as target the male population (eventhou nowdays there are far more women than men on our planet), but is slowly changing (for instance I liked very much an advertizement for a parfume Lacoste, where there was a nice looking guy, waking up and walking around the appartement all naked, finally showing a good looking male ass on TV (just to avoid misunderstandings-I\'m not gay, but I appreciate \'innovation\' (you must admit that there aren\'t many advertizements with naked guys in them), some kind of sexual equality and the fact that males can be indeed nice to see in an unusual role).

- Women (at least those that replied to this thread) actually don\'t find women\'s nudity offensive or sexist, but rather estetical (somehow in the same way I liked the advertizement with the naked guy)
As it seems it\'s indeed an accepted female role in our society to be the sexually attractive/arousing element in most moovies/comics/books/games.

Ok, I like the way the discussion is proceeding:D

However I\'m still of the opinion that a greater deal of non sexually incentred female characters should be present in fantasy (I\'d love to see an orkish army composed 50-50 by male and female orks-let\'s say the ORKs and their noisy and threatening wives, shouting arouns, quelling their animosity and bashing their husband for looking at thet skiny pointyeared elven maiden).
I mean wouldn\'t that be great? So far only elves seem to be some kind of democratic/equal society, where women fight along their men.
Ok dwarves base on a matriarcal society, where women are revered and rare, choose their husband and he would be dishonored not to accept-anyway dwarven women are far to rare and precious to them to let them risk their lives on a battlefield.
For lizardment we could argue about how do you distinguish the 2 genders, since the models don\'t show any of the genders\' specific organs.
Orks and ogres have brutal tribal societies, that could actually include women warriors (only stranght matters to them, and an ogrish mother in law should be preatty frightening:))
Undeads... well beside the vampires that already include an entire bloodline of seducting women there\'s not much else to do (ok, maybe some female zombies-actually children zombies should be present too, as it\'s logical that when a vampire erases a village, there would be both women and children and both kinds of corpses would be reanimeted in the awakening of new zombies-however that could cause a great deal of complainings from some mother\'s associations, horrified at the fact that their kids are playing with models of dead women and children (while it\'s of course acceptable for them to play with models of dead men-where\'s the equality of genders then???).
Chaos: ok, in this case there should really be more women (actually in the Gotrek and Felix first novel there\'s a female Khorne lord, that almost kills Gotrek), since they have Slaanesh (ok, leave out the deamonettes, for now, we need more mortal women and possibly some more concubines, since it\'s actually linked to the fluff of the army) and the other gods have some female partecipation too (nurgle\'s carnival of chaos actually collects \'brides\' and children that are then taken to the chaos wastes). Some female beastmen and mutants could work too (they were mutated by chaos, but still they have to procreate somehow, I doubt they just pop out from the earth as the orks in the Lord of the rings (now that I think of it, orks are supposed to be born from fungy spores, at least in WH 40K-from a biological point of view it\'s more likely for them to have females rather than developing from some kind of plant, even if they\'re green).

Anyway, any other points on that matter?

He does, but he has a number of scantly clad man in addition to his scantly clad women. My favorite example of his is (I forget the exact title) a Conan like half naked barbarian opening a bottle of expensive wine with something that mixes high eligance with raw unadulterated barbarian flair.

Hassle Free\'s My Hero HFF007 is a good example of a mini with a half naked male and a female dressed with only a bicini bottom. There is a lot to be said for modeling a good female form, but a well designed male, especially the barbarian type, with definite muscle formation, a nice manly square pair of breasts and a set of six pack abs also has plenty of potential for highlights and shadings as well.

I\'m not sure where this comes from. In tolkein no female elves fought (they changed Arwen immensely in the films).
In Warhammer, the only females are the Everqueen and her bodyguard. While you can use the bodyguard without the queen, they aren\'t exactly integrated with the regular troops.

This must be GW fluff. In Tolkein, while again the females don\'t fight, they are indistinguishable from the males by other races and so your dwarf army could be all women if you want.
I doubt they just pop out from the earth as the orks in the Lord of the rings
...movies.
In the books, orcs procreate in the usual manner. However, they are the descendents of elves who were twisted and corrupted by the evil Melkor (Sauron\'s old master).

The Dark Elves are a different matter. Sorceresses, charioteers, bolt thrower crew, warriors, witch elves, beastmistresses... quite a few of them around. The harpies could be considered female too. So yeah, WFB elves have a few.

Oh, right. I was thinking high elves because I\'m painting a high elf army. Dark elves have females, though are they integrated? Seems to me they usually are more isolated. Plus, they are evil so of course they have lots of women fighting (stereotype warning).
Then of course there are wood elves. I think perhaps they are more integrated, though I am not too familiar with them. Seems I recall seeing female waywatchers.

Very much integrated, actually.
- one male beastmaster, one female
- one beastmaster apprentice male, one female
- one male charioteer, one female
- of the four warrior torso designs, one is female
- of three bolt thrower crew sculpts, one is female

There are some units which are male or female exclusively, but on the whole, it\'s nicely balanced. For me, that\'s one of the draw-cards for the army. :)

lol Well, it could all be blamed on one single female elf - Morathi. She being the Eve of the Dark Elves, the first corrupted one.

I\'m not familiar with the wood elves either, so I can\'t really comment on them. But I think I noticed that some of the wardancer minis are females.

Ultimately though, I\'m more concerned in where the next wage is coming from, how much it will be and what I\'ll spend it on. THis is all semantics. I\'d go further and say that it\'s quite futile, as we\'re only talking about made-up shite. Just a thought.
