When do you paint?

TAB ya FREAK ;)
Honestly, I wish I could bring myself to paint that much. But a lot of time, I just lack the motivation. I am mostly the \"dead of night\" type, painting between 11pm and... well, early morning... Never without having some music or videos playing in the background. The doing of the Black Orcs Leather Jerkin (see WIP) was accompanied by Predator 1+2  So I am not the silence guy, but I just can\'t seem to \"see\" the mini in daylight (then again, my room\'s window goes to the north, so I don\'t get direct sunlight... ever!

I\'ll make that painting and sculpting seeing I often do then both, sometimes simultaniously and spend overall almost the same time on both.

For me it\'s when I have time really... Usually about half an hour after I come home from work to relax a bit while my computer starts up and I check e-mails/posts.
Then I go cook and depending on my evening program I usually paint/sculpt for about an hour/hour and a half after dinner (and spend some more time on the computer in the meantime (computer is on my working desk and is acting as my stereo too, so it\'s on anyway (though sometimes it means I end up surfing the net/chatting a large part of the time instead of painting/sculpting)).

On days off and weekends I usually get some more painting/sculpting in when I have time then on weekdays.

hmmm not really an hour...
but when I\'m bored.. and mostly I do it for about.. 15-45 minutes.... then I get... less presice... and most of the time I paint half a mini the one day and the other half the other day.. and at the end of that day or the next day I correct the little mistakes/big mistakes
ofcourse it\'s diffrent with special chara\'s and verhicles...

(note: asdrubael took me a few monthes... inculding vacation, last year)

I used to be one of those night owl types. But my sleeping pattern is all fuddled up now that I\'ve got to keep a more regular schedule. I\'ve got my wee lad for the summer so I cant be sleeping until supper time presently. Woe is me. I usually still end up getting caught up in something until 3 or 4 in the morning. That alarm for 10am is a nightmare! Luckily for me my boy likes to sleep in too. Just like the old man. Haha, actually we went downtown earlier today, stopped into a Timmy\'s for a drink and a doughnut and the girl at the counter asked if the \"cute little boy\" was my brother. Yay for a youthful appearance! Wasnt so great when I was 18/19 trying to get into bars with legal ID here in Hull/Ottawa but a decade later I\'m enjoying it quite a bit.

The benefits are well worth the sleep deprevation though lol

Oh, I usually give it a go in the evening, 8 or 9pm for a couple hours, when the sun goes down and it starts to cool off.

I\'ll probably put in the last air conditioner in my work room today or tommorrow so I can paint earlier with the sunlight comming in the window without feeling like I\'m an egg in a pot of boiling water. In fact I should do that now. It would be much better for me to paint in the afternoon while my son plays with his friends before they all have to go inside before dark type thing.

2nd yay for post count enhancements. :innocent:

I’m absolutely shocking at picking up a paint brush. I get home from work with good intentions and about 9 out of 10 times I just fill the hours with distractions until it’s time for sleep.

Once I manage to get painting though I get completely sucked in. I usually do something like a 7 hour stint on a work night or about 10 to 16 hours at the weekend. That’s with no real breaks. I guess it’s not the healthiest way to do things and my back sure knows about it afterwards, but my best work seems to be the stuff done in one sitting.

The last three nights of this week I’ve actually tried to paint, but it’s so bloody hot that it’s been practically impossible. Even heavily thinned paint is drying just about the second I apply it to the model. I have no clue how folks in permanently toasty climates manage to paint anything!

EDIT - Wahey! It just rained rather heavily, cooled things down a bit and I\'ve finished my Tzeentch Exalted Daemon (which has been waiting for a spot of paint on its tail for about a month now!)

my painting hours are influenced by the following:

1) when my daughter finally decides to fall asleep

2) the mood of my wife

3)how long the rest of my chores take

basically i only paint after 10pm and only monday-thursday. friday night is drinking night and weekends are for the family.

its uite comforting to see how many night owls we have here and that i\'m not the only one who roles up to work bleary eyed when theres a competition entry to be finished.

When I start painting I can \'t stop and then it\'s at least a whole day (10 hours or something like that). This of course means that I never paint unless it\'s holiday or weekend.

Dawn = Yawn

I have to find a least an hour\'s block of free time to paint. 2 hours is ideal - lets me make significant progress without cramping/burn-out. With a wife, child, house, job, et al those hour blocks are scarce - unless you wake up at 4-feckin\'-AM!! :(

Oh yes, you heard correctly - the damn alarm goes off at 4AM and I drag my arse up to the workbench for 2hrs-3hrs. It\'s the perfect time of day to go online, pay bills, watch ESPN SportsCenter, and fertilize the lawn (the neighbors think I\'m cracked - I\'d agree).

This \'clever\' plan gets me 10-13 hrs per week of paint time. Allows me to finish a mini each week. Why not paint from 9-11PM, you ask? HA, young grasshopper, there is much you do not know about marriage and the concept of \'quality time\'. A lesson for another day, perhaps..... :D

Off to fetch another cup of coffee

I do exactly the same thing, Matrim.

It takes me so damn long to get all my paints out, get setled and be in the right frame of mind... I really can only paint when I have absolutely ages to do so, maybe 10 hours on the weekend. maybe it\'s also to do with all the damn homework. The teachers can\'t get enough of dishing out homework for the weekends.:p
