Mosch and I play it occasionally. It's quite good, and pretty easy to learn.

Basically, they work with action points. Every mini gets a certain amount every round, and has a maximum capacity. There are actions any mini can use (move, run, attack, dodge) but every mini also has a number of special attacks. Every mini has a card where all stats are noted, and there are cards for "equipment".

You can download the rules for free on their website.
Also, Ulisses shows all the cards on their forum. Just German, though, but I bet you can find the English ones too, somewhere.

there are a few faction specific starter sets (usually 2 minis each)...
there is a dark, light, and neutral faction...

i've not tried the rules, as i don't play with minis, i just paint 'em...
they seem to have done well with the demos at Gencon...
they've been around for a few years, and Cypher Studios seems to be hangin' on strong, so they must be doin' something right...

some of the minis are just awesome...

cheers

your right the minis are biuetful where do you by um at
Well, not all are beautiful.
Some are very weak sculpts, there is serious scale variances between models. For example Cordelia Rosalind: (*)
CS2011.jpg

Is far smaller than Sophia Ilmora
CS3006.jpg

Plus some of the figures have exactly the same issues as Rackham were "guilty" of, that is extremely small pieces and smaller contact points for glueing.
In addition some of the faces are lacking in any form of modelling, making them look really (TV) cartoon like and flat.

However all the comments above hasn't stopped me buying them as the ones that do 'Jump out' are really great pieces of sculpture for a painter. Or even an old hack like me.
(* I'd really like to know why Cordelia Rosalind , when wearing a bustle skirt which comes in two pieces has legs, boots, stockings and French knickers sculpted on, in a area where they can never been seen? No wonder my wife raises an eyebrow at times.)

...Srsly? That's pretty crazy. Although it would be far worse if she wasn't wearing anything under there, but was still *ahem* perfectly formed....:sidefrown:

^^ Well we've seen our share of that in the miniature world... I assume that "Cordelia" is maybe meant to be assembled in two options, normal or trampy?

And people wonder why we have a bad reputation. :eyeroll:

But now I'm tempted to pick up two copies of this lass and try to make both versions. She's one of my favourite AT minis.

It's obvious. So she can be stuffed into a barrel upside down, or be thrown over the hero's shoulders. Need to see them bits if ya do it that way!

One of the easiest available thing to help you achieve both aims of NMM & Flest tones is GW WFB Wood Elves.
However Reaper miniatures do so many figures that you can Pick & Choose quite readily.
But rather than select a specific miniature range, look for a miniature itself which will give you these challenges.
Anima Tactics miniatures do have some very fine detail on them and you could find that you are overtasking yourself by taking on a miniature with too much to work at in one go. Far better to get small achievable targets in steps than attempt a single leap.

I haven't really noticed the problems a few people have mentioned about the pieces being fiddly. I suppose in comparison to GW stuff they are. I was able to pick up a few of my favorites from the line at a LGS for about $4 each and I've really enjoyed the game the 3/4 times I played it. It feels a lot like a board game on table top with the way you manage the activation points for each model. You only need about 5-6 models per side for a really enjoyable game which also allows for taking a bit more time on the painting.

Anyway, the couple models I posted here only took me about 2 hours each and I was really happy with the results. The faces really do require a little extra attention to get them to look 'right' (Daniel could have used a few more minutes of attention to cut down on her horse face effect, but I just wanted to play). Otherwise just fun clean stuff to paint... if you pick and choose.

Enjoy!

It's not just mini-artists. Gustav Klimt used to draw his female figures completely nude (including body hair) and then paint the clothing over the top. You can see it in several of his unfinished paintings.

From a certain standpoint, I can understand why this would be a good thing to do in both 2D and 3D art, actually. After all, it's the shape of the body that affects the way clothes drape and cling. If you have the foundation, or body, fixed, getting the covering layers right should be much easier. But I'm struggling to see how one's legs are going to seriously affect one of those enormous hoop skirts! It's almost on a par with that mini company (name escapes me now) who carefully sculpt the shoes of their horses despite the fact that no one is going to see them once they're glued to the base!
