What are your criteria for scoring a miniature?

Cripes, everyone is so serious about it. I rate figures on the COOL scale which is what the site is actually about. If I look and go COOOOOL, then it rates higher than one I simply go COOL on. Of course, if it is splotchy, unpainted or just a plain mess, there isn\'t anythign COOL about it... therefore, it is below tabletop, which means it is NOT COOL.....

Another way is to compare to yourself and the skills you have. I like doign that.

Sure thing! Just remember, a 5 or tabletop is not cool. So a 6 is the same as saying to yourself \"COOL\".
An 8 would be like \"COOOOL\", and a 10? Well obviously, a \"COOOOOOL\"!

thanks, multiple votes?

Well thanks for the input. Helps me think about how I score minis in the future. Does anyone vote more than once to get an avg. score? like vote 7 and then vote 8 to get a 7.5 avg score?

Yes, people do. But I\'ve sorta stopped voting on minis unless the voting has just started on them:flip::bouncy:

Only if I\'ve fluffed up my original vote, by being a dummy and not watching what I\'m doing.

I must admit that there are times when I follow Glyn\'s Coooool concept and times when I just look at the whole mini and go :
Yeah,
Meh, or
Yuch.

If it\'s the middle though then I try to find a comment to go with my opinion. If it\'s the last well then If I can make a suggestion to help the painter then I will!

Even Though I\'ve been sniped (yet again!), I have never voted a 1 on a mini. I have voted a couple of deservedly low scores but (I hope) have always commented.

One thing that has opened my eyes was being part of a judging panel at a competition. This has made me think quite hard about how I paint for a comp and how I should judge.
One Problem for this site, is that there are so many large pictures of the mini\'s, that there seems to be a tendency to forget that the mini is actually only 28-32mm tall and is usually seen at about a foot away at the maximum. The pictures therefore display every fault in glaring detail, most of which would be un-noticable in the real world.
Therefore works from the likes of Elouchard, Cyril et al.. which rock the site must in real life be astounding because of the reality of the size.

Does any of this make sense?

Yup this is the rating system I have been using for quite some time as well.

Once I pull up a mini to vote on, I ask myself. COOL MINI OR NOT?

Everything is just varying degrees of coolness. I have given high scores to un-perfect minis just because of the cool factor.

Here is my fool proof system...

The way I score a mini is simple. First i write down my initial reaction score, then I look at what kind of mini it is and factor in a difficulty rating based on the mini. next I grade the color scheme and decide if all the tones and shades are analogous to each other, further more including scoring factors reflecting the base, then I look to make sure it is in the right category ( since I learned on another forum that posting in the wrong category merits a 1..LOL!!! ), total all these numbers, divide by the square root of pi, then I meidtate in the lotus position and pray to the painting god ( or gods ) that they will grant me proper wisdom to score this mini correctly.....

Oh wait, there is a better way, how about if you like the mini give it a good score and if you don\'t like it score it appropriately??? Would that work or is that just too simple???
