Maybe it\'s a Canadian Military thing, but there are two Rs, for Reasonable Recognition. Maybe they dropped an R over time or something.

original source of FUBAR (one R) is Vietnam (IIRC). It was used in the series Band of Brothers but far too early.

Over-time pay?

Here\'s a great one but it\'s very specialist so I don\'t expect anyone to know it without having to look it up:
TWAIN
JPEG is good too, probably a lot of people use it and GIF (and maybe TIFF) without knowing what they stand for.

More abbreviations than you can shake a stick at:

Hey Shawn; we always said MARINE stands for \"My Ass Rides in Navy Equipment\".

US ARMY=Uncle Sam Ain\'t Released Me Yet.\"

Well, the Jarheads around here say

Marine - Muscles a requirement, intellegence not essential

And when I was in the Navy there were two we kept in mind -

FTN - Fugg the Navy

NAVY - Never Again Volunteer Yourself

I never heard that one before steelcult. I did hear the one about the Navy though. Alot of ex-water lillies for co-workers.

TWAIN Wait, I know this one... it\'s like \"there wasn\'t any interesting name\" or something like that...
JPEG is good too, probably a lot of people use it and GIF (and maybe TIFF) without knowing what they stand for.

JPEG = \"Joint Photographic Experts Group\"
TIFF = \"Tagged Image File Format\"
GIF = \"We\'re gonna be assholes and try to enforce this patent\" ;)
Hmm... *visits Wikipedia* it seems I was close about TWAIN:

The word TWAIN is from Kipling\'s \"The Ballad of East and West\" - \"...and never the twain shall meet...\", reflecting the difficulty, at the time, of connecting scanners and personal computers. The description \"Technology Without An Interesting Name\" originated from early working group activity, though they do not accept it as an acronym
