looking good. You can really see the progress on your pics. Looking forward to see it with the wood elf realm base

my two cents.
Your sculpting looks quite good and I like what you added to the model but...

The horse looks like it\'s stepping on its barding with it\'s hind legs. Maybe \"shorting\" (read as green-stuffing) the last MM or so into a rock or something.

Your last picture the knight looks like he\'s falling back out of the saddle. This is from I think, the position of the original models butt and angle of his feet in the stirrups and the bow of his knees. I guess that I see more of a standing in the saddle/ straight leg/ with the toes pointed up over the balls of the feet pose, but seeing as this is a one piece metal sculpt, what are you going to do ??????
Lastly, I\'m not that sold on a morning star. I see a straight mace or a war hammer of some kind, but that\'s just me.

Re: the morning star, there\'s an item called the Morning Star of Fracasse that destroys enemy magic weapons. It sounds like a pretty badass ability, and I\'m sure this item had something to do with the decision to avoid the more common lance, sword and mace options.

Well, resculpt the base to level out the mount as the model was originally intended. I see what you mean about that though so I\'m heating up the oven as I type to make the new rock. I also see what you\'re talking about with the barding looking like it\'s being stepped on. I\'ll see what I come up with when I actually glue it down and \"frock\" the rock... that won\'t be until much later though... I think.... I plan on painting the horse first before I officially attach it to the base. It\'s going to be pretty awkward painting it not attached... but who knows... I learn something new all the time.

Sorry, been a while, but I\'m back for now. The mini I feel is now ready to be scrubbed and primed. I\'ve added fur to the base for a field effect and I changed up the rock to be more level and to have wood elf carvings on it. All the details are in place on the model, all I\'m waiting on is for the GS to set up before it takes a bath and gets primed :) I will be priming with a dark grey and now the question I\'m wrestling with is to NMM or MM? I\'m leaning towards MM using the articles written by automaton and masterbenz. Anyways, as always, let me know what ya\'ll think. By the way, that is not the final color on the \"grass\". I just wanted to get a feel for painting it before I start to lighten it up and add some highlights to it. Cheers!

The painting begins...

So, again, after much absence, I\'m back to continue where I left off. I started laying out the basic color scheme on the model. These pictures unfortunately do a poor job of properly displaying their true color. However, it should be close enough for C&C (which would be greatly appreciated). I have not begun any shading or highlights, just the basic color layout. To be honest, I am terrified at truly painting with acrylics (most of my work with color has been done in either watercolor, oils, or colored pencil), but ya\'ll have been so helpful, I think I pull through :) I would like all detail, nit-pick opinions for painting this piece because I don\'t want slack off on anything. Aim for the moon right? Land at least among the stars...

how far into it are you? it just looks base coated to me.love the grass, looks great. might be a good idea to do something to the backing though, to make it look like earth

anyway, if you like oils, why not use them on the mini?

You are correct, this is just the base coating. About the base... I\'m little curious about GD base standards... would it be OK for the \"soil\" (i.e. coffee grounds) to make up the sides as well to cover up where the fabric line is? I think it would look more natural that way as opposed to just this nice uniform edge of \"soil\" around the grass...

First, I like this model and what you\'ve done to it...this makes me want to paint fantasy miniatures, too ;)

I consider myself too unexperienced to give any real critique, so just one thing: The colour of the horse itself looks quite bright to me, even for a...*looks in his english dictionary* chestnut-and-sorrel-horse. But I don\'t know for what exact colour you\'re aiming with that one? For a mighty warhorse I would aim for a quite dark brown, just my personal gusto :)

Greetings,
Witzkatz

Okay, so I\'m a bit distressed... I\'m happy with the color choice for everything but the color of the horse. My original intent was to paint him as a palomino, but I don\'t know if that\'s just going to be too much. I don\'t want a black or dark grey horse because I want the lord to exude rightousness and virtue, but I\'m just thinking a gold colored horse might be a little over the top. Gahh, I need some help! Here are some pics of my original idea for horse color:

I\'m also starting to entertain the idea of a light grey, but it seems so common... I thought this would be neat though too:

I\'m all ears... the horse is the first area I want to finish, so I need to get started before I just go nuts. Thanks for the help in advanced.

*mad props for using rl references* So few people seem to do so. Horse number 2 looks dun to me. I think your current base is a reasonable jumping off point for a chestnut, but is probably too red to head in a dun/palomino direction (you\'d want something more yellowish). As you say, this is a basecoat only, so I think once you start shading and highlighting youll be able to shift the colour in the direction you want. As for the colour itself, I think all of those would work, it\'s just a question of which you prefer! Palomino could be cool if you made it very light. There are variants in which the horse actually looks \"gold\" (the Akhal teke, for example), but you could make yours a more standard pale biscuit colour if that doesn\'t appeal. I\'m all about trying to steer clear of perceived cliches, so I\'d personally avoid the \"paladin on a white charger\" thing, but I\'m not the one painting the mini! ;)

Well done for sorting out the horse\'s bottom, but the way! It looks really good now. :)

Thank you Amazon :) I sense a fellow horsey person around here ;) I\'ve been around horses all my life, so I guess I feel a little more personal about getting the horse \"just right\" than some do. Funny you included the pic of the Akal Teke. I actually thought about it, but I figure most people would think it\'s too outrageous to be a \"real\" coat color, and since I will hope to put this in a GD someday, I don\'t want to rock any boats just yet since this is my first one for the most part. I think I\'m going to go with number 2 for my scheme and I\'ve actually re-done the base coat on him to a yellow ochre color to start with. Should be fun! Thanks again!

Heh, yeah, I owned a Thoroughbred x Irish Draft mare for a while, which I shared with my sister. She was dark bay with a blaze and white socks, and so pretty! Sadly, we had to sell a couple of years ago, but she went to a nice girl in the South of England who\'s doing fun things with her and my sister\'s been able to keep in touch and visit her. It\'s more difficult for me to go see her from Germany. :(

And yes, this has made me more picky about painting model horses \"properly\" too! lol
