US White Dwarf Golden Demon Coverage.

Well from what I have heard, the US WD was shut down and is now made in the UK...something like that anyways. Thus, no demon coverage at all. Now what I think would be a brilliant idea would be to keep the WD in the UK (this keeps editing costs down around the world, or something like that) Then instead of no demon coverage, they should do ALL demon coverage. I think that there are enough GD\'s around the world to fill all or almost all of the months in a year. Honestly, I would then by two of each issue!!!!!! We\'ll see though. I have noticed that GW does ask for a lot of imput from gamers and painters alike. Just don\'t get bent if they don\'t use your idea:D

Ya I do not understand why they have to have different content for each country every month, that is a big waste of money. Making one layout for the magazine and then changing the language seems way more efficient. I am sure there is more to it than just this but I find it hard to believe that it would be too difficult.

Because cultural differences will make people buy different things in different countries.

Having a large catalog to taylor as many people as possible is costly, but at least as a business it enables you to sell to them. And on a global scale, that is important.

What do you think was the marketting idea behind the Tau? My guess : hit the Asian market or taylor for the non-Asian-yet-SF/anime-fans-still-not-into-WH40K. Some may argue that there were enough armies already; but I can\'t see why GW wouldn\'t take a shot at such a market.

Ever since they pulled the US publication out of DC I think it\'s gone downhill. I\'m biased, of course, \'cause I\'m friends with the previous editor (thanks for putting me up for Balitimore GDs, Eric!) but still... I\'m not sure GW knows what butters their bread anymore. =\\

it\'s nice to have a book
I\'ll agree to that. However, GW did publish such books in the past, but have stopped since some time. Not enough people interested?

An odd fact : in the french WD, they continue to publish the winning and finalist minis in France and of other countries. In last month\'s there were the winners of the Open category of GD UK.

smart phones?! french wd with world wide coverage?!! damn you frenchie!!

even with a smart phone, i would prefer a book. unless they had mentally big, good quality photos on the site (and then i would want the book AS WELL!)

What about when they let Platoon Britannica organize a get together at Warhammer World and people were able to bring non-GW minis?
yeah can\'t complain about that - the gw guys were brilliant when we went up, cant wait for the next event now

Was just pulling your leg on that one ;). But to be honnest, it is nice to be able to look up something whenever I want. As for the small screen, the zoom function works pretty well so CMON and Demon Winners shows up OK on it.

By the way, did you know that \"Figurines\" published the winning minis of the 2008 World Expo? There\'s a nice pic of Anders\' Gnome in there as well as some GD IT winning minis.

So if you want printed material, maybe the solution is to look at publications other than GW where GD winning minis were at Open competitions.

I was very disappointed upon learning that Golden Demons will not be featured anymore. It was the biggest selling point to me, so now I have very little reason to spend $8 per issue of White Dwarf.

The only real reason I could think of purchasing it anymore are the painting articles (I always find them handy. Never know when you\'ll find a new trick you can use/inspiration for a new army), and taking a look at all the shinies painted by \'Eavy Metal.

I\'ll probably just put my $8 a month toward other GW products. Win-win.

It always seems to be cyclical with WD. I first started buying it around issue 140 odd which really shows mt age.
By about issue 160 it had shifted so far towards the gaming side of things that I stopped buying it as I am purely a painter of minis. Unfortunately for them without the inspiration to look at I also stopped buying minis and eventually stopped painting for several years.
When I picked up another WD a few years ago I was blown away with the standard of painting which improved exponentially over the next year or so. Subsequently I started to paint and buy WD again.

I am sure I would not have been the only person to do this and if GW cared about it\'s customers they would take note.

Lately I have been disappointed at the ratio of painting to gaming articles and it looks like the same thing is happening again. Even the masterclass articles are good but nothing special. All the demon coverage is either abysmal or non-existant. What has happened to the articles on world class painters showcasing their work?

As each month goes by and WD is not improving I am thinking of not buying it anymore ... and that has directly corresponded with me spending my money at other companies rather than GW.

Do they care? Do they think we will read any old pap and more importantly will they learn?

I just got the past issue of WD around the same time I started posting on this site. I have asked my local gaming store for the newer two issues (I have one that had the space marines on the front and the drop pod article) but there just is not a demand around my area for them so I told him no rush, whenever he does a game order just tac them on there, but after reading everyone\'s responses I guess my opinion of white dwarf when I read it is the same as everyone else.

I thought it used to be great back 6-7 years ago when I didn\'t know about ordering specific parts and bits from online sites.

I probabily will get the next couple of issues just because there are suppose to be feb 09 lizardmen stuff but other than that... I don\'t see much value in the magazine... actually my local shop said the price went up to 8$ US, that could be a couple mini\'s on ebay (YES EBAY!)
