If they are fingers of potato, deep-fried, then they\'re chips. If they are fried, thinly sliced pieces of potato, then they are crisps. Otherwise, who knows what to call them. ???

I had to look twice at the thread title. My sordid little heart leapt when at first glance, I thought it said \"titties\".

Id say they are snacks..and they look kind of interesting!
Chicken flavor?

Thats one of the bad things about chips( crisps for you in the UK and elsewhere) here in the USA we don\'t get the good flavors like you guys do..Id kill for some steak flavored crisps:p

I went to London last year on a business trip. While I was there there was a bag of chips from a company that in the US is really known only for its shortbread cookies. The flavor included six cheeses that are also not known at all in the US. Needless to say it was fantastic.

I\'d love to have a chance to travel abroad, but I don\'t know about visiting the UK, I\'ve been warned about the food! ;) :|~

A friend who once vistied there with her school class told me that whatever restaurant you go in, just order the soup and bread, since those are the \"safest\". :D

Well, if I ever end up in Iowa for some reason, we\'ll try it. I have a cast-iron stomach, and like to try new dishes. :]

I have no idea where this myth comes from to be honest. The food over here is fine. Here\'s some proof - 2005s top 50 restaurants in the world list - 1st UK and 4 in the top 10 - http://www.worldpress.org/Americas/2090.cfm#down

:rolleyes::]:duh:

Food in the UK is luverly stuff. Anyone who is a sceptic really, really has to try haggis. I\'d go back to Scotland just to eat haggis again, and to replenish my Glenkinchie Distiller\'s Edition. Now when it comes to drink, there is no place to top the UK. Ales and single malt whiskies. Heaven, bloody Heaven.

Not trying to stir the pot, BUT...do those 4 in the top ten serve traditional ENGLISH foods? Or are they some swanky french thingies? I\'m wondering if the top ones in America serve \'american\' dishes.

And I didn\'t see McDonalds anywhere on that list....lol

Hmm... no idea to be honest ??? They\'re a bit out of my price range :D I think the point is though, that food in general in the UK being rubbish is unfoundered - honest :D - (probably a myth made up by the French lol)

And yeah the ales and whiskies here are second to none :p

England\'s claim to culinary fame is \"Hey ... at least we are not Ireland!\" :duh:

My stay in London last year was far to brief and in the wrong place (Canary Warf is not in and of itself the food capital of London) to access the wide variety of food in England.

Never the less, I found the food quite nice. I manged to go to one pub in the area (amid laments by the co-workers on how the traditional pub is going commercial) and both the food and the ale was great.

So was the cheese, and the cold cuts. Why even the \"take out sushi\" I had one evening because I worked a little late and wanted to rush to the hotel was good.

A lot of food in the Uk is dire at best. It is the only place where I have seen an apology on the board for deep frying the food while you wait after 10 pm as opposed to sitting in a warmer congealing for two or three hours before you get it. Where a hamburger means the meat patty deep fried in batter . :|~

At least they offered me vinegar with it.

The Indian restaurants were great, the best cheapest food we found.

The rest of the time if you wanted good food you paid good money for it.
