Hey Brothers and Sisters of the painting Order,

After several Years of "low level" painting, i was more or less driven by Nathelis to finaly start a f****** showcase project... well... while reading the new Chaos Space Marine Codex an idea started to grow in my Head... I wanted to build a little diorama... A Champion who fell to his knees and prays to the gods for a gift, after he slayed a ( hopefuly worthy...at least it would be better for the champion... you know what I mean?^^)... so I started with the base....

next was the Champion... i had to redo his legs of course:

shortly after I finished building him up, i had a little accident at work so I could hold any tools for cutting and converting the victim so I started painting the champion realy slow progress cause i´m never quite confident about what I´m doing...after all it is my first serious atempt at painting something better than good tabletop standard but see for yourself:
Yellow breastplate... just 5 minutes bevore i decided to weather him...just a little bit xD

I know that the pics aren´t that good but in my opinion you cann see enough....

I wanted to say thanks to the people suporting me with their opinions tips and thoughts, even at unhuman hours, as there are Nathelis, Sleipnir, and many others, without you this project would have found an early ending!
And I hope to get some more feedback from here too... well and I hope that my english isnt that bad so you can understand what gibberish I´m writing anyway
Feel free to criticise and help me on my long and hard journey!

Thanks... well the base is just one of the things that show that I dont have the right materials or tools... but i have always been a fan of just try if what i have might still work somehow... and... I like what came out..it is a learning process, now I know i wont ever use sand for basing again as long as I have real earth... it looks way better and more realistic ( and in fact, it is cheaper... another bonus i you ask me )
As I mentioned bevore I have some problems with holding a brush after my accident ( a deep cut in my trigger finger... realy sucks!) so it could take a while for the next pics... but as i know myself, i will go on tomorow ^^)

Welcome! That is a really strong start. Take it slow and it will turn out great. FYI: There is no such thing as "the right materials". Whatever works or is on hand. ANYTHING can be sacrificed to the hobby and there is a use for everything at some point! Hell, I have a bunch of Martha Stewart craft supplies that people think belong to my wife

Okay...after I ruined the face with a glaze that turned it into purple and I could not fix it... I decided to do something useful... I searched my boxes for all heads I thought might look good at the guy and well... now I will practice face painting... as result I hope to have an awesome face for this guy...well and some others for other projects

Well...after a litle accident involving my mobile phone, a not properly closed pot of black paint, my Champion and i´d guess 4-5 minutes rest of him in the colour... I had to do a new upper body for him...sad after 5 hours of painting for the old upper body... but I cant turn back time... so I started with one of the possible new heads today, after 2 hours of Painting, this is the result:

What do you say? my opinion is so far okay, but it could use some more Higlights , some more glazes to smooth the horns and some lighter red for the eyes... because for painting normal eyes they´re way too small( or I´m to dumb to do it... and believe me I tried realy hard to paint some...

Aunt Edit(h) says: After I was asked if I intended to paint nmm Gold for the rebreather: NO I wasnt, I wanted to take up the colour of the chestpiece and thats simply a dirty yellow... dirty because its weathered, something I didn´t do here yet... but I will ^^

Hey folks some progress has been made... but not at the Champin... after a long brainstorming about the Face, I grabbed one of my CSM Terminators and started painting him... its the second time I tried to blend with glazes only... but see for yourself:

Maybe the armour could use "mooooaaaar contrast!" as someone said to me some days ago after he saw the breastplate of the champ... but after all it is just a gaming miniature... and there´s some weathering coming too

But now I have a face to finish! Feel free to coment

Good evening Ladies and Gentleman,

The skin has been lightened up, the eyes are more demonic and i´m quite happy with it,tomorow I´m going to paint the next part ( chestplate... that will go swiming in mellerud PVC cleaner overnight together with the original head).

The Terminator Lord has seen some work too, worked out the shadows a bit more and started the triming on the legs/chestplate) but i still dont now which way this will go... because nmm is something I´m realy not able to do
But first I now have to do the rest of armour at the legs and feet, and perhaps I´m going to start with weathering ( the most fun part in my opinion...^^)

I think you need to back your camera out a bit cause the picks look a tad fuzzy. Is this your own color scheme or is this a named renegade legions? The blending looks pretty good to me.

It looks like a great, smooth yellow to me. There is a bit of digital noise in the photo, which usually is a result of high sensitivity/ISO or use of digital zoom.

Well...after some Problems with the yellow of the armour, I started a birthdaygift for a friend of mine, he´s going to get Admiral Olga from Raging Heroes... the box with all three of them and the dog was quite cheap because it had a water dmg... no probs with the minis so no probs for me...
Here´s how she looks after basecoating and some work on the skin.

Nice blending on the skin so far. I like the dramatic shading around the eyes too. She looks dangerous. I can't wait for their kickstarter. Toughest girls in the galaxy indeed - ROWR :teeth:

@Moetle: This Army will be like the one in the Iron Warriors Omnibus, the part with the Bloodharvest(?) Tournament where Honsou gathers his forces... or better something like that at least ^^
@Zab:Yeah I like the sculpts too^^

And now... tadaaaaaaaidn´t have that much time for painting last week, but some projekts got some of my precious attention, so here´s the update.
This is a birthdaypresent for my best bro... that I wanted to make in 2011 or so I think... and I just did not have any Idea what exactly to do with it, or how to paint it... because he doesnt play WH 40k... and I wanted him to like what he´s got...

The edges of the additional armour will be stippled and brushed with some metalics and for the lowest edges of the skirt i´m thinking about some mud( still have to figure how to do this but some mix of earth, PVA , pigments and or colour should work in my opinion..

The Terminator Unit grew a bit in the last days after i had to strip the colour of the first because i overdid it with weathering...

And the Bases for these guys... simple but good for gaming purposes:

Well... some time has passed... some projects put aside, taken back to the light...and put aside again,
and now i have some kind of duel with a fellow painter called Nathelis and some others running, call it a brushwar, clash of colours or whatever you want, the goal is to paint a single space marine like you wish him to be in aprox. 3 months... and here´s my version:





I intended to do a real pissed, aggressive and dynamic Marine, and...yeah I think i achieved exactly what i intended, what do you guys think so far?

Some kind of Blood Angel( or successor Chapter, not sure yet, but he´s already red now, as you can see here:



Still have to clean the shadows/lights a bit but... hey... I have more than 2 Months left, so perhaps i should go easy on him^^

Still not sure about the Sword... what kind of energy i want it to look like... not even the colour... so I´m a bit experimenting right now, but most probably it will be either blue lightning or overall yellow energy...

Well...and there´s the problem with my cam... the red is far away from THAT brightness...the brightest colour I used was a 50/50 mix of GW Dark Flesh and Valejo flat red...and the shoulders are more smooth... but I think thats to expect if you use your handycam and a lightbox...
I´ll keep the blue lightning on the powersword and as a contrast the face will be painted nearly white with black hair... after I´f sleppt some hours...fraging headache after 14 hours of work...

I hear ya on both the work and the red - hard to photo even with a pro set up. Ironically red is the one color that really "bleeds" when it come to video and photos.
