The world is way too PC...

While it\'s wise to be on guard about anything perticularly suspicious, I can\'t honestly justify any real grounds for worry in a lot of these cases.
I work for the Ministry of Defence in Glasgow, if you might recall there was an occurance not so long ago here involving a plot to blow up the airport.
Now, the briefing we sat in on covered sensible points about what to look for and other possibilities and scenarios.
Funnily enough, none of these things covered a child with a plastic knife or a school kid claiming to have a bomb...thats just paranoia.

It doesn\'t take much to start a Panic, and considering you have described yourself as \"A Nerdy Kid who gets picked on a lot\" it wouldn\'t take much imagination for someone to incorrectly cast you in the role of \"Potential Nutcase With a Bomb, looking to take revenge on his tormentors\", however unlikley you may think that to be.

And let me just say something to make you think about the human psyche: I\'m sure that as soon as the threat was found to be nonexistant, he got picked on again.

wha.....

first......you are taking your warhammer carrying case to school. i assume it is high school right?

Well, are you suprised you got picked on? WH is some nerdy stuff......i show my WH40K to my friends (im in medical school), but otherwise its my dirty secret......my girl friend is cool with it (thank god) but i try not to advertise the fact that i am a total nerd.......and that would go double for high school.....

i played D&D with one set of high school friends...whom i was nice to at school after school and had my go out and party friends....i didnt seperate the two, they just didnt mix well...like oil and water, even though i tried to get em to like each other...

point is, lost of people are nerds, just dont be suprised if you get pushed agaisnt the locker for scrawling elder symbols are your desk.....

as for the bomb thing.....you have a big case, and you said it was a bomb....

thats kinda not the sharpes thing to say. it is dumb how we are freaking out about GI toy guns, and people saying flippant things like \"i have a bomb...just kidding\". people need to get a grip. but that being said....dont say i have \"i have a bomb\" at a airport....they might not be as forgiving (ie they will immediatly tackle you and arrest you).

your life will be much happier if you take your awesome stuff (ie nerdy stuff) and leave it at home where the ignorant cant see it. plus you will get invited to more parties if you are not swooshing around your land speeder in art class.

Im just sayin

Or gross negligence by the MoD for failing to pick up on such an obvious threat. After all, airport security know that even babies are potential bombers given the intense suspicion and scrutiny that my son\'s drinks got put under when we last travelled. Although my favourite case was the man who wasn\'t allowed to take his souvenir snow-globe on the plane unless he smashed it open to get rid of the water inside.

Well thats another point.
You\'re 100% on the ball with the airport security issue. Because the airports are patroled by Independant security firms, if anything WERE to go wrong (point in case the bombing attempt), we\'d be seriously screwed.
They don\'t do anything at all, but the gov\'t would rather contract out security to idiots like that to save money...No joke.
So meanwhile everyone that uses the airport would have to suffer at the hands of under trained lazy assholes if anything were to happen.
I dispair. America has the right idea they have a national organisation and imigration at their airports. They might be a bit heavy handed sometimes , but they do a good job.

Ditto.

You have majors in high school?

You can major in mini painting?

BACK ON TOPIC:

Bomb threats - and that is what you made when you stated it was a bomb - are not fun, not funny and can lead to some very serious consequences - like being shot by someone that believes it.

PC or not. Tell me you are carrying a bomb and you will find where I conceal my weapon.

That sounds like prison slang to me
LOL,
Never had the pleasure of going there, but point taken (and that could be another double entendre from prison as wel) . lol

Not quite. Airport security in Atlanta is handled by the govt. but the state and regional airport authorities are responsible for hirings. So like other govt. jobs we had the unfortunate consequence of politicians involved in giving jobs to friends, relatives and potential voters. We actually had convicted criminals (a couple were felons) in more than one instance who were hired as security. The woman primarily responsible for hiring was herself a former criminal. After the story broke, those folks were fired and \"Airport Security was improved\". HA!

And I didnt get the gun back for about 3 months :(

You may want to look at this, though a bit rediculous in it\'s comments on WoW

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22161037-28737,00.html

Quotes like this make me think that this is closer to home then you may want to admit:

\"Gunaratna says a fresh crop of home-grown jihadis has been groomed and is ready to step up and replace the leaders of Australian terror cells who have been arrested or jailed. He estimates as much as 80 per cent of the nation\'s counter-terrorism resources is dedicated to monitoring and tracking them. \"

LOL, I love how they portray griefers in Second Life (motto: \"Get a First Life!\") as somehow being dangerous. Blowing up a building in SL is at worst, hacking (or more likely just taking advantage of someone not locking down the edit permissions). It\'s not \"terrur!1!1!!!\".

You want to know what SL griefers are REALLY like? They\'re like THIS (semi-NSFW). Their main casualties are other people\'s patience, and good taste.

\"They are rehearsing their operations in Second Life because they don\'t have the opportunity to rehearse in the real world,\" Gunaratna says. \"And unless governments improve their technical capabilities on a par with the terrorists\' access to globalisation tools like the internet and Second Life, they will not be able to monitor what is happening in the terrorist world.\"

Basically, if you rehearse your real terrorist ops in Second Life... you are born to FAIL. Actual terrorists (with guns and bombs and money) have been busted for far less idiotic behavior.

okay then.. this moved faster than i thought it would.
@Gilvan - hindsight is 20/20.

@Shawn - it\'s a sad thought that people act like this. i don\'t know how much of the \'fear culture\' stuff gets put on your television screens, but it obviously works. we don\'t seem to have this problem in Australia (at least not as far as i am aware)

@Ritual - i couldn\'t see anything going wrong with that situation. it was a total surprise to me that some people freaked out about it.

@No Such Agency - You\'re right. anywhere else and i would be dead. or in prison, and that would mean i was as good as dead.

@Ebonbuddha - true. you\'re looking at it in pretty much the same way as i did. and you\'re right, people do go looking for excitement, which is a bit stupid.

@Dragonsreach - yeah, tact sometimes escapes me. and i wouldn\'t be at all surprised if people saw me as a potential nutcase.

@reverend - i believe it is art, and it\'s not just a bunch of painted minis. it\'s a long story, and if you (or anyone else) want a better explanation you can PM me.

@Mosch - that pretty much explains it.

@uglyamericanV1.5 - I don\'t own a land speeder! plus parties arent my thing, plus i have long given up on interacting socially with the people in my year. they\'re a bunch of @ssholes (with one or two exceptions)

this is tough to say, but coming from someone who had orange hair and an ear ring (who thought he was sooooooo unique in his \"style\", and i use the word style loosely) you need to take advantage of all the fun in high school.

sometimes people are jerks, but sometimes us nerd ask for it (ie when i wore aqua blue flaired cordaroys to school, wtf was i thinking?). i mean you dont have to be close friends with everyone, real friends are hard to come by and that stands true for the rest of your life, but being social and enjoying others company and antics is the stuff of memories. I cant really express how important this is, but if you sit in the corner babbeling about your demon killer dwarf minatures while painting your finger nails black....well that doenst lead to happy memories, just lonely ones.

It gets easier in college to find other \"cool\" nerds, but you need to \"wild out\" in highschool, brother. just let some of your nerdy aspects take a back seat so you can have some fun, instead of suffering listening to nine inch nails alone in your room.

a good start is to grab a pal, a bottle of whisky, and show up at a party (and not brood).

and yes i am endorsing underage drinking (but dont drive). alcohol is liquid courage.

i dunno, but it would be a shame for you to waste your time in highschool when you could be having alot of fun.

dunno if this makes sense, or just sounds obnoxious, but i hope it helps......

good, because that\'s a BIG can of worms. look at frenchkid\'s article on it just to see how big the aformentioned can is.

@uglyamericanV1.5 - i am also a roleplayer and occasionally i RP, and sometimes get drunk with some of my RP friends (and its fun). but i have schoolwork to do. I have the trials coming up, as well as a major artwork and a major design project so my time is pretty restricted.
