The Journey of a Third World Noob

Hi, I'm also from Brazil (unfortunately) and have also recently started painting minis, from War40K. I'm trying to post some pictures here in CMON but haven't managed to yet...
I started with "Decorfix" paints, as other Brazilian hobbyists had advised me to, but it utterly sucks. Then I went to Acrilex, much better, but quickly realized that I had to use Citadel, Vallejo, P3 and so on.
I and my friends buy things through friends that travel abroad and occasionally import from maelstrom.co.uk - and pray to our products ever reach Brazil (the problem is not the store or the delivery, it's our damned Customs).
Tabris, could I recommend you use a better light source for painting? I know those kind of lamps you're probably using, and they're not that strong. The ideal would be to paint with the sun's light, or even buy a special light bulb that mimicks the sun's light. But if you can't use them, try for a strong fluorescent lamp, more than one if possible, but not too close to produce shadows.
As for the photographs, the better the scene lightning, the more accurate evaluation of your miniatures. I recommend these two tutorials from CMON: http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/101/page/1 and http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/60/page/1

Hello rsrForge. Might i ask from where in Brazil you come?
Nice information about the Decorfix paints, i tought they were better than Acrilex.

About illumination i'm going to change it soon. Tried using daylight for painting but it's not a good idea there. The windows in my bedroom face east, so the sun is right on my face in the morning and it doesn't project much light the rest of the day.

I've being buying things from Maelstrom, the problem here was the lack of an international credit cards to buy from outside of Brazil. Now my mother got one and i'm using it. As soon as i get more money i'll buy a new lamp i saw at mercado livre. I hope i can get some money for more paints too, when i first bought Vallejo paints i didn't really knew what colors to pick, now i'm more sure about what's lacking.

Recently bought both the Warhammer 40k basic hardcover and the Eldar Codex, you probably knwo books don't pay taxes at custom here in Brazil.

I'm beginning to plan my first WH40k army as you can see at it's topic at Dakka Dakka: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/309448.page

PS: Don't say you are unfortunate of being Brazilian, our country has many high points and i would not see myself living anywhere else. Even if you don't really like it remember that it could be worse.

lmao

I'll PM you with some other information but as for the Vallejo paints, you may use this Vallejo-to-Citadel paint equivalence chart: http://taistelutarvike.fi/catalog/vallejochart.pdf
A wider one can be found in Vallejo's official website: http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/pdf_web/CC073_rev03.pdf (this one covers other brands, like Tamiya, and other products from Vallejo, like the Model Colors and Air Colors).

BTW, I got my first (good) job uploaded to CMON: http://coolminiornot.com/256479

Nice. I already have that chart and have even memorized part of it from the constant use. But thx for the tip anyway.

BTW, nice sorceress, just try studing more about skintones, i think. I think it would be good to have strongers shades and highlights.
