The earth is flat!

Shawn seems to be quoting the 21st century King James version (link here). This version is an update of the original king james version, and some good scholarship went into finding the modern terms. That\'s the only place I found spheres, though.

Mr McIntyre laughs. \"This is perhaps one of the most commonly asked questions,\" he says. \"A cursory examination of a flat earth map fairly well explains the reason - the North Pole is central, and Antarctica comprises the entire circumference of the Earth. Circumnavigation is a case of travelling in a very broad circle across the surface of the Earth.\" \"

The so called flat earth map :

... no comment :p.

[edit]I\'d like to know how they explain seasons and temperature changes when you travel to the equator or the poles ;).[/edit]
thanks! surely that would mean that the edge of Antarctica is many times it\'s actual size!

yeah i agree they need to explain seasons, length of day night cycle, timezones, temperatures...

It\'s hard to believe this isn\'t just an elaborate joke, that otherwise intelligent adults could actually entertain this notion *shakes head*

I\'d love to see how they \'explain\' the distance from place to place in Antarctica - which people have walked, in a known time - or how long it takes to sail from Tierra Del Fuego to the southern tip of Africa

*sigh*

[This is a tangent but I remember when the Catholic church finally accepted that the earth was not the center of the universe. That was 1992 I think] --

I can say this with all sincerity, belief, and conviction.... the statement above, or the flat earthers, etc....I hope people who believe stuff like that just die, since I TRULY do not want any chance of kids in the future, \'learning\' anything from them. It\'s better just to remove them from the possible genepool now.

One of my favourite quotes...

\"The problem in society today is that we try and cater to the chronically stupid\"....

The book of Job was pretty accurate here:

Job 26:7 \"He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, [and] hangeth the earth upon nothing.\" (KJV)
The Earth hangs in space over nothingness.

and here:
Job 26:8 \"He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.\" (KJV)

What translation is that? It doesn\'t seem to match anything else out there.

Biblical description of the structure of the earth was drawn from Babylon and pretty clearly describes the earth as being a flat circle (or at other times having corners) and being held up by pillars.

So you\'re a eugenicist? Very enlightened.

If Antarctica stretches all the way around the outside does that imply that penguins are the guards in this prison?

From what I\'ve read of Flat Earth Theory, there is allegedly a giant wall of ice around the edges of the earth which keeps the water from falling off.

so sea levels wont rise with global warming then as the ice will melt and all the water drain away, although come to think of it if the earth isnt a globe then there will be no global warming

lol lol lol
But a very SCARY thought.

You know, that wouldn\'t be such a bad idea for an RPG - the heroes of the round world fighting against monsters from the other side. Uhh, not that your mother in law is a monster...I mean, I\'ve never met her, so...uh, yeah.

Already done really, that would pretty much be the D&D Hollow World Campaign Setting.

So which would you like to pretend, that the bible is scientifically accurate, or that the bible doesn\'t contradict itself with at least a dozen other verses that very strongly imply a flat earth world view? It\'s not a new argument. I don\'t want to spoil it, but your side loses.
