Restaurant service... the worst one I got was in a greek restaurant where we ordered and then waited 45 minutes until we asked the waiter where our food went. Answer: \"Can\'t you see our restaurant is full? I don\'t think you\'ll starve any time soon.\"
I went across the street with my cousin, bought some fast food from a little barbecue shop (or whatever you call those things in english) and ate in the restaurant. After we finished we left, only to see the frowning waiter through the window carrying the food to our table. He looked kinda puzzled :D

Another great service story: I was in a supermarket with sakura. She wanted a drink. We got a bottle of fruit juice I think and went to the checkout number 1. \"I\'m closed, please go to number 3.\" OK. Number three: \"I\'m going on a break, please go to number 6.\" OK... kinda pissing me off. Number 6: \"Please pay at number 1, my shift`s over.\"
We just left with the cashiers looking blankly after us.

Over here..in the UK..

We\'ve really benefitted from American/Chinese/Indian ideas with regards to service. Don\'t laugh...

I am sure there are a few of us around here who remember food outlets where you considered yourselves lucky to even get served, and no one ever complained about the quality of the food....It just wasn\'t the \'done thing\'. It\'s still going on...as \'Gordon Ramsay\'s Kitchen Nightmares\' graphically illustrates.

I had been in Paris less than a day. I go to a resturant, simply order and when the waiter returns he sort of lobs the plate on the table with a BANG and it slides over to me. His mouth remained silent while face said F$%K YOU, and all I had done was ordered!!! I did pay though.

LOL!

He must have liked you then!!

French service is generally utter crap, unless you are French I guess.

At least in my experience....

Once outside of Paris the people were GREAT. But, sadly, in the city they were TERRIBLY - mostly.

Let\'s see, back in NJ, I ordered a pizza when I was staying over at my friends place, now keep in mind the fact that the pizza place is 10 blocks away, a short car drive. So I order a pizza and an hour later I call them again and say politely as possible \"Yes, I ordered a pizza an hour ago at 9 p.m.\" the lady responds nicely \"Its almost done cooking\". Then, another hour later at 11 p.m. I call there again and say the exact same thing I said earlier and there\'s a guy on the phone and he says \"WE\'RE NOT THE F&%KIN\' SERVICE CAPITOL OF THE WORLD!\" and slams the phone down, now, I just forget the pizza and go to the convience store and get some nachos. At 1 a.m. the door rings and there\'s mr. pizza man with a big old grin on his face looking for a tip, unluckily for him, the person who answered the door was my friend who was damn pissed as hell and he gives the pizza man the money and the pizza man asks \"where\'s my tip?\" my friend responds by swiftly kicking the pizza man in the groin and locking the door. lol, now there\'s quality service for you.

What took the pizza man so long? he completely forgot he had the pizza in his car and went home with the pizza and then remembered it an hour later. What an idiot.

Forgetting your pizza = bad. Kicking the delivery man = absolutely inexcusable. I hope you hang out with a better calibre of friend now.

Yes. Ones less angry and I also don\'t have to deal with bad delivery service except for dominoes.

i am english so over here, i only tip if they deserve it. 10% if the service is ok, more if they deserve it and nothing if they don\'t.

i appreciate what it\'s like in a restaurant and as someone has mentioned (rodnik i think) you have to gauge it on the type of place oyu are eating in. although i was say that waiting more than 20mins for main course after your starter is unacceptable, that was the rule my boss always worked by. ultimately, some dishes take longer to cook than others but they should be part prepared at the beginning of the night.

thing is though, if the waiting staff are good, you shouldn\'t notice or care, they should ALWAYS be pleasant, curteous and smiling :D

I went to a little family-run Italian last night for the lady\'s birthday. We took our time, waited for the food, ate it slowly, enjoyed the ambience and the staff\'s friendliness. Now that\'s what I call civil. And the food was stupendous!

I had scallops for the first time in my life and they may have just taken over as my favourite food of all time. They were served with Crespelle Marinara, a pancake with some gorgeously fresh seafood in it and finished with a light parmesan/cheese sauce over the top. The scallops were separate and unsullied by the (lovely) cheese sauce. The depth of taste those little scallops had blew me away. For the main I had a leg/hock of pork slow cooked (in advance obviously) with a mustard sauce and some gorgeous veg. Then I had blackcurrant sorbet to wrap it all up. Inbetween we had breads and oil and balsamic vinegar and some smashing olives.

We took a couple of hours there and had a lovely time.

15 minutes as a maximum? Might as well eat your own shite!

:D

Rev, I love a nice evening at a steak house or Italian restraunt.

But at a coffee shop/breakfast joint you expect to get in, eat and get out in a fairly quick time frame. It does not take that long to griddle some pancakes or scramble a couple of eggs.

Anybody else a fan of Waffle House? Their service is not slow, just stuck to the floor.

There are lots, called Macdonalds. But I suspect that the places which do give great customer service are the ones that people tend keep to themselves.

In Bolton there is a curry house caller \"Rice and Three\". Looks just like any other transport style cafe, but servers cracking curries.
You can get Rice and Three curries and a Naan bread each for about £10 for 4 people. No stingy portions either!.:D

When to walk out:

1: If the host/hostess that\'s supposed to show you to the table greets you with the statement \"Not you again....\"

2: If you order a vodka martini and get a bloody mary, and you\'re the only person in the bar.

3: If cut into your lasagna, and find a cigarette pack\'s foil separater within (this really happened) it.

4: If management refuses to do anything about the obnoxious cell-phone user at the next table.

5: If your waiter/waitress is excessively rude, and management does nothing.

6: If you place your order and three other tables that arrived after you get their food first.

I\'ve also had some wonderfully pleasant experiences with service, though. In Niagara Falls, a waitress in Mama Leone\'s italian restaurant was so damned good at her job, that I tipped her 80% on a $100 bill.
