Rules:
  • The owner of the current months thread will choose the owner of the next months thread from the list of participating members. This will be revealed in the topic intro;
  • Anyone can participate and at any point of the month. On the last day of the month we have to post a photo of our efforts, finished or otherwise!
  • If you are unable to participate in any particular month, by all means post a link to anything you have been sculpting. We are after all here to learn from each other!
  • Any suggestions for a future months topic can be posted in red text, like this: "CMON user Goblinho, wearing an oversized mankini";
  • Normal forum rules apply, so play nice children!

This months subject is... (drumroll please...) animated characters!

This includes anything from comic books, graphic novels, cartoons, anime, video games or even anything loosely associated, such as charicatures. There should be something here to inspire everybody!

This sculptalong will run from the first of November until the 30th. May I suggest that Goblinho resumes control for the token Christmas themed sculptalong in December. In January I would like to nominate Chrispy to take the reins! Chrispy has already shown great dedication to the cause with his multiple sculpts and casting attempts.

Have fun everybody!

January!?! I don't like responsibility! I.. I...

Well, Okay. :D

I may be a bit late starting in Nov. I've got play practice starting (Me- Spirit of Xmas Present, Christmas Carol), another play to audition for, art projects that are backed up and of course Turkey. But, I should be able to come up with something in the month. In fact.. now that I think about it.. oh,yeah.. I could do that since I put it on the backburner awhile ago.. Hmmmm..
What? Nothing to see here, I'm doing evil plotting.. :p

Looks like we all have some great ideas floating around! I'm planning on an Adventure Time sculpt (or two) intended to dish out as a Christmas present (yup, that's my motive this month!). I may also make a further attempt at sculpting the bizarre character Salad Fingers! I have already made two failed attempts at this guy (albeit long ago) so want to prove to myself that I can do it!

I have a fair bit of work already on the go... a (very challenging) commission sculpt, a Kingdom Death baby Gorm (for fun), a tribute sculpt for a forthcoming Kickstarter, as well as a small pile of additional Mad Clown sculpts which I'm hoping to have cast for Salute 2014 (yes, I have a stall, whoop!) and also finishing of the Halloween sculptalong piece! Phew! ...and that's all alongside the day job and (probably) Christmas shopping... I may just cry, lol!

I'm in!
And I'll begin my November experience with a riddle...
"I cannot deny the facts:
I'm totally insane,
I'm not very fond of bats,
I answer to the name of ...."

Four letters.
To give you some additional hints, I can tell you my subject is big, mean and hooked on steroids...

Hope to post some pictures ASAP.

Cheers!

"Oh, you think the darkness is your ally, but you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you, because they belong to me. I will show you where I have made my home, whilst preparing to bring justice. Then, I will break you. Your precious armoury, gratefully accepted. We will need it. Ah yes, I was wondering what would break first. Your spirit, or your body. You don't fear death, you welcome it. Your punishment must be more severe. But not of your body, of your soul."

You got it!
My November post will be BANE!!!
Concerning your choice, Goblinho, I'd love to see Guyver (one of my favourite comics EVER)!

Cheers!

Hello.
I havn't sculpted a lot before. Looked around for guides and found these threads. Thought it might be fun and also good practice.
Dont want to tell yet exactly what it is going to be, but as you can see it is a humanoid shape.
It is inspired by an animated series and I will try to follow its style but it will have a twist.

Pictures after sculpting session number two. Another layer and a head.
Some proportions are off by design and some by accident. Problem is that im not sure which are which yet.
The head are meant to be large. The rest should probably have normal proportions. I think the legs are a bit short but i can extend them further and finish the feet last.

Hi there.
First pictures of my November creature.
I wanted to post a step-by-step photogallery, but my camera was low on battery and therefore I could only take pictures of the latest changes... too bad.
Anyway, here's my vision of Bane.
6 hours of work splitted into three days, roughly 70mm.
Steel-wire armature, for volumes (such as his torso) I used aluminum foil to save up some clay (which is definitely more expensive!). Everything else if FIMO classic (and a few GS details).
Next step: his mask and arms.

@Pendix
Where can i learn to make an armature like that?

@Abbadon76
Wow.

Thanks Konkoktor!
Beside suggestion provided by TristanGST, I suggest you to check out the following link here on CMNON: http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?36255-Handy-Scale-chart-by-Prophet-Miniatures

The chart provided by Chrispy (thanks mate!) should really give you good hints as far as poportions are concerned; I have a similar chart myself for my projects! ;-)

Hope to see some progress soon!

Cheers!

Wow- people really getting into this month's project with some really ambitious stuff! I'll have to maybe try and start next week- this week has just been a series of contained explosions that is still ongoing. The fact I gots play practice isn't helping either... Still, great werk everybody!
(Also, the Amarture card is here for those who need it.

Session 3:
Made some bulking out and shaping of head and hip/buttox areas. Not enough progress for a picture update.
Also made some armatures using different techniques. Practice and experimentation makes, if not perfect, at least better.

Got some greenstuff on my figure but not much, trying a different approach this month and I'm working to a much smaller scale. Will do a bit more tonight and try and drop some pics tomorrow.
