Scratch Sculpt 54mm White Lion

So I\'ve had so much fun sculpting, I\'m already planning my next sculpts, this time from scratch. I want to try out a 54mm sculpt since I\'ve been blown away by the work of Freeman. After thinking long and hard about it, I thought a drawing I had done a while ago of my White Lion from Warhammer Online might be a good start.

Sorry it\'s a crappy picture, but you guys get the idea :) Some of you may be familiar with the statue it\'s based on :innocent:

What do you ya\'ll think?

Ooh I\'ve always been interested in seeing some minis sculpted after Warhammer Online imagery. They have some super-cool stuff. Kinda surprised GW or Forgeworld hasn\'t made some kind of deal with Mythic to make a collector\'s lineup of each of the classes. Oh well, this will have to do :D

You know, I think that drawing took me about 5 hours? Obviously not done, but I kinda liked that so I just stopped, posted it up on my studio wall of sketches and inspirational pictures (anyone else do that?) never thinking of sculpting it till now :p

Great pic, where can I see some of your previous work, Painting sculpting, drawing?

:)

I\'m hoping you\'ll be able to view a smattering of my work HERE

If not, let me know. Most of the work there is from college and my primary study was anatomical work. I\'m hoping this knowledge will transfer or at least help greatly my future sculpting attempts.

First of all, sorry for the long delay. I am now working on two projects at once not including all the other daily stuff I have to keep up with as well. But this is not to say that this project won\'t allow me to sleep at night (it seems to be all I think about). I have finally set up the armature and basic pose, but as you can see, it has a loooooong way to go before it resembles anything like the quality of Freeman\'s work. I\'m working in sculpey firm for the first time and I love it. It\'s like working with modeling clay, which is what I\'m accustomed to. I know it\'s hard to tell anything much from these photos other than that I started, but if anyone sees anything particuarly off, please feel free to critque as always.

Looking at what you\'ve got so far, looks great.
Question, though.
Is the nub on the top of the mane going to be the head?
If so, then the neck is way too long.
just my 2 cents.

JOLLY WHIIIITE LION! HO HO HO! *ahem*

Looking good! I play WAR too and they chars can be pretty inspirational so I see where you\'re going with this, and I like it!

I think the lion is supposed to be looking up? Like mid Roar or something? It\'s the only sense I could get from scale. Those war lions are fecking enormous in game at 40 though...

Working my way up :) So far I\'m really liking where this is going, still needs work and more refinement of course, but I feel like he\'s turning out imposing enough. Let me know what ya\'ll think. Head is next, and Jester, I\'m going to be paying close attention to that to make sure he doesn\'t turn out with a long neck  . Been trying to be as accurate as possible studying lots of lion muscle anatomy with maybe a bit of my own interpretation :) Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Hello all! Progress continues and I must say, for my first scratch build, I\'m happy with the direction it\'s going. Niira (the female figure) has finally hit puberty and got some flesh where is counts. The posturing of her is what it is, not perfect (the bent knee should be in a little more and the straight leg should of had more of a diagonal placement under the hip) but I like her and her posture was \"baked\" already, so she\'s stuck that way. Luckily, she gets a nice long kilt that will cover most of that up. Her chaps need some detail and design work before I do a second baking. They\'re going to be just straight up leather (no metal shin gaurds) because I want her to have a very feral look. Simple, easy to move in, decorated with elven designs, but I want the over all look to have a certain \"wildness\" to it. If anyone of course has ideas, critques and the like, let me know :) As for mister lion (Erotar) he\'s still working on getting some feet and I dropped down his head per the recomendations of JesterUSMC and my husband. Once the feet are complete, he\'ll get some neck muscles and a head sculpt. The faces of these two are going to be the most important aspect I think, because they\'re in a state of resting alertness, I\'m going to need all the critique I can get to pull off their \"look\". When that stage comes I will be begging for ya\'lls help constantly. So, we\'re not yet there, but here\'s what I got so far:

looks good, but watch out for the bulk on the elf. starting with a figure like that, she may end up looking too curvy. fine for a human, but a little too much for an elf imo

@Freakinacage: yeah, I can see what you mean, and that\'s definetly something I want to steer away from, but for some reason these photos seem to add some weight to her... dunno why... maybe it\'s the typical girl thing of we always look fatter in pictures... or at least seem to think so :D Thanks for the suggestion because I do need to be aware of that when she gets some clothes on.
