Greetings & salutations!

So, I'm new to the hobby, and I started painting my first army a couple of moths a go: blood angels, so I decided to start a progress log here to posibly get some feedback from you folks.
I started my army with a AoBR marine set, a Predator tank & a drop pod (It's been a while since I finished the AoBR stuff, and I just finished painting the DropPod, the Predator is on hold until I get some magnets)

Here's the results so far:

And that's what I have done so far.
I'm currently waiting for more stuff to ship in. I ordered Mephiston, a Blood Angel BattleForce, 1 extra box of Death Company, 2 extra boxes of assault marines (I'll have 2 full squads total for now), and 2 sanguinary priests. I also have a Predator tank semi-assebled, I ordered some magnets so I can swap the weapon choices so I need the magnets to arrive so I can finish the assembly.

Hope you like the pictures.
Cheers!

i'd say very good the blending is great especially like the scorched effect on the drop pod. Another Bloodangels nut all we need Lol, *shouts* "MEPH, cooeeee somone to play with".

Whuh who wha where? Blood Angels! Can't never have enough of those! *mumbles high-pitched MJ lyrics and moonwalks in a circle*

Good job on them as well, very moody, as they should be. :D The scorchmarks could be feathered a little bit more though, but that's just nitpicking.

I don't know what to paint first.. probably the troops.. I don't know yet..
Any how, I still have about 10 tactical marines to put together (they came with the battleforce box) but since I have enough chainswords left over, I'm thinking to just build them as a third assault squad without jump packs.. :O!

What do you guys say about the non-jump pack assault marines?
they would go on the rhino/drop pod.

A very small update:

So I really liked the way the tones of red ended up on the drop pod. And I want my troops and whole army to share that same finish. That's why I'll have to change the painting procedure a bit.
For my AoBR stuff I base coated everything on a light grey, then I went for a coat of blood red, then a wash of devlan mud, then blood red again and some blazing orange for thin highlights..

I'm planning on changing that, I coated the whole assault squads and sanguinary priest with the same red spray paint I used on the drop pod, again this is a glossy finish, to tone down that glossy finish I washed everything with a thick coat of badab black wash, after that I'll work the red up with thin layers of blood red, creating a subtle blend of colour (or at least that's my goal)

Here's the pictures, base coated with the gloss spray paint and washed with badab black.. you can see the difference in colour in the areas that have no wash on.

I've been kind of busy and haven't been able to make much advances, but here's what I've got so far... painted the helmets with some tau scept ochre, then a devlan mud wash, and then ochre again with some line edge highlightning, also I'm starting to work on some of the details...

Yellow helmets without highlights..
assault02.jpg

And some highlights done on the helmets.. also note how in this image you can already see the red armour of one of the assault marines already been made the way it's supposed to be. (the third one on the first row from left to right, that's just missing the orange edge highlights)

I'll update as soon as possible.
Cheers.

wow... I this took me a lot of time... My progress has been quite slow lately.. anyhow.. here's what I've got:

I made the rockets for Both assault squads:
assault04.jpg

And the Gems as well:
assault08.jpg

As you can see here, I painted the kneepads, (haven't painted the squad icon yet, only the base colour) I'm done with the power armour (reds) and done with the chain sword, pistols and some of the details, only the Purity seals and some other white and bleched bone details are left, as well as the bases.
assault05.jpg

assault06.jpg

Also I applied some Decals, I totally failed at appling the left shoulder pad decals (blood angel icon) but I was able to get the right shoulder pads done at least... I'm having a bit of trouble with the damn decals... xO...
assault07.jpg

Highglights on the armor, weapons, helmets are all done now... only some bone, paper and purity seals are left... so these are My 1st and 2nd company assault blood angel squads =)

PS: sorry about the shitty pictures. I'll take proper ones once I finish both squads.

Hey, your army is coming along really nicely, huge blood angel fan :p I just wanted to offer a small crit on your gems. I think I may have a hard time describing this with words and not pics but I will do my best. At the moment the highlights you have on the bottom of the gems are convex, like round circles which push out into the middle of the gem. If you instead paint the highlight as though it is cupping the bottom of the gem (like your painting the circumference of the bottom half of them gem opposed to filling it in) you will get a much more realistic effect, not sure if that made sense. Also try and get the center area of them gem very dark, I do my red gems almost black then in 4 lairs in the bottom 3rd of the gem I work from that through blood red to white, you probably don't want to do that much work on a whole army but a darker color will really make the contrast stand out. Lastly try to get your reflection as near to the apex of the gem as possible, I see on the gem in your last pic the reflection is hovering about 2/3 of the way up the gem. One more thing, a touch of gloss varnish on the gems will really make them stand out lol! Anyway, that may be no help at all, either way I love how the army is coming together.

The feedback is very welcome mate! thanks alot!
As you can imagine I still have TONS of gems to paint (sang. guard, death company and another assault squad) I think I understand what you ment, I'll keep your sugestion in mind next time, for sure! =)

I thought about the gloss varnish, I'll need to find a local store that sell liquid gloss varnish.. because the nail polish that I used on the drop pod screen is hard to handle for small details like the gems :p

Thanks for you comments mate!

I haven't been very active lately at the forum, and that goes for painting and finishing models as well xD!
But I have some progress to update at least.. been jumping back and forth between projects and here's what I've got (damn I'm getting tired of fielding unfinished minis):

I started painting my Rhino's interiors, just base calours, no washes, no blends, no highlights yet, needs a lot of work still, since I painted my Drop pod, I've set my standards for that level of painting for my vehicles, I won't be satisfied with any less, but for now I can only show you this :(

rhinoint01.jpg

Secondly, I primed the Magnetized Predator with some red spray paint, again same brand I used on my Drop Pod and Assault marines, right now it is VERY glossy, later on I'll get rid of that issue with washes and blends with blood red.
pred3.jpg

Also, I started painting the sanguinary guard, I bought a couple of tamiya golden tones, gold leaf (medium) and titanium gold (highlights) but I've only done the primer (black spray paint) and some browns as a base for the golden colors, they're still in a very early stage.. but I'll try to follow MWG video tutorials for True Metallic Metal - Gold. This is what I have done so far:
scaled.php

scaled.php

I've only started with the metalics on this one guy, I mixed a little bit of black to Gold Leaf to darken it a bit, later on I will apply different tones of washes, similar to MWG's tutorials on True Metallic Metals.
pirexsangguard01.jpg

Now, As I said... I've been jumping from one project to another without finishing any... this is my Death company, been working on some black power armor shading, using some medium greys (with a tiny bit of blue on the mix) and some lighter tones of grey... I still need to apply some heavy black washes to tone them down, since right now it's too light, hopefully it will come out as I'm planning. To tell the truth I really wasn't very careful when I painted the shades, I'm planning on fixing that clumsyness later with washes tough.
deathcompany00.jpg

Here's the only one with a black wash applied, but I may need to apply a second coat of badab black to blend the tones a bit better and tone down the highlights even more.

I actually didn't. mixing some brown, black, purple and blue cheap acrylic paints with lots of water gets you something prety close to devlan mud. And if you mix some black and a little bit of brown and lots of water (I just use black) you'll get badab black. I found out that for vehicles an big models, it's just not worth it to waste GW washes.. I use GW washes for smal details only.

Oh, good stuff man, I'm especially liking the vehicles. The DC also have a nice look on them, almost like granite. black they are not, but that doesn't matter, it's a good look.
As for the gold, dude.. that just looks lumpy and clotted. Could that be just the paint?
