Whoa! they don\'t like to make it easy for you do they! (unlike your Rugby team! lol) 2 rounds before the finals!

Congratulations on making it through, I was looking forward to pictures but I imagine its all still a bit top secret until after the day.

So now you have made it through to the next round do you have to enter the same untouched mini? or are you free to do more work to them or even start another one entireley for the regionals/finals.

How did you get on regarding the extra mini? IIRC I think the aussie judges may be anally retentive regarding the rules and the letter of the law, was it them who disqualified Victoria Haleys fantastic Lictor/guard duel because they were not \'dueling\'?

Victoria Haley lol You\'re confusing two wonderful female painters, Victoria Lamb and Jen Haley.

And yeah you\'re right about the duel.. that was completey stupid on the judge\'s parts.

I thought the lictor/IG was DQ\'d as it had appeared in the Tyranid codex first. The seraphim/ork kan thing was docked marks for not being an equal matchup. Of course, I have been known to be wrong.

EDIT: Well, it turns out the lictor/IG one was DQ\'d from TWO golden daemon comps. The Oz one for not being in combat and the German one for the reason I mentioned above.

Oh dear… that is all I have to say.
Today I dropped off my mini for the next round and I saw your entries Wereweevil and I’m stunned. The painting is absolutely fantastic and the conversions amazing. I was going to say which one was my favorite but I keep changing my mind, suffice to say that they constitute the best painted group of mini’s I’ve seen up close. Then again I haven’t really seen any competition minis up close until now.
Anyway best of luck you’ve certainly put in the effort.

Thanks quayleman, I\'m glad you got some appreciation of them. It makes the long hours painting and converting them more worthwhile when I can see other people appreciate it.
I\'m looking forward to the further rounds, as from what I hear, there are some hot categories this year, even if they are not too well represented numbers-wise...
I could be lucky to place with many of my entries if the rumours are true :) I haven\'t seen too many other entries from around the country yet other than what\'s on the Ozpainters site, so it will be good to see them all in person eventually.

Well, the second round judging has come and gone and some nice surprises for the quality of the entries at a regional level has gone up.
Good to see some nice stuff amongst it all, kept my faith that the standard hasn\'t dropped, only the numbers have! But at the end of the day, they can only send so many down to Sydney for the finals, regardless of how many people have entered!

Looks like young bloods have been well represented, with more entries than any others. The cateogries with the least (so far) are LOTR Large, Slayer mini (4 entries in total) and Fantasy regiment.

Got the chance to see and speak to some other entrants which was great (Hey Quayleman!). Would have liked more time to chat a bit more in depth but it was still good.

Some great entries from first timers this year, in particular a harlequin from a lady who had only painted two mini\'s before and it only just missed out on going to the finals, really nice job. Some outstanding work from one or two youngbloods (one entry was in the adult category done by a youngblood and it was that good it went through to the finals as well - a great acheivement for someone so young!

The feedback from around the rest of the country is that there are some good entries going to the finals and the competition will be fierce - only three weeks to go now.

Also unconfirmed rumours around that the format or entire event could be changed (or worse) which are kind of spoiling things a little with the very thought. GD is the only reason a lot of the painters here buy GW stuff (or any miniatures at all for that matter!) so without it, it would finish the hobby for some. But anyway, hopefully that\'s just a malicious rumour without foundation.

Happy to say all my entries went through to the finals (8 in all!) some of which are in my gallery - including the loved or loathed pink rhino lol.

Bring on November the 17th and 18th!!

I agree, there were some really great mini\'s there this year. A definite step up from the standard set last year which has unfortunately left me behind:cry:. Oh well there is always next year (I hope).
Despite being knocked out, it was well worth the trip down to meet some great painters. I just wish I could have stayed longer wereweevil but it was a long trip home.
Anyway my entry is now here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/172691
and I\'d love some advice to improve.
Best of luck to all those who got through and have a great time down in Sydney.

Winners are HERE

Congratulations to Marcus and Jamie for clearing up 7 and 6 trophies respectively, I told you so :)

Lukes stuff was so smooth and the freehand stunningly flawless, congratulations on a well deserved sword.

There was at least one, but as far as I know none of the winners were. You\'ll have to enter next year :)

@Zordana: Both of my sisters entered youngbloods but we\'re still waiting to see what happened, as the WHFB Youngbloods finalists arent fully known at the moment.
Myself (not a girl) entered 5 mini\'s this year (my first GD) and i was lucky enough to maker it to the finals with all 5 so im very happy with that, looking forward to next year :)

Thanks Trevor, it was a bit surreal on the day picking up that many demons - certainly unexpected given the competition. Funnily enough, the ones I spent the most time and effort on weren\'t the ones I ended up doing well with! Murphy\'s law I guess :)

Congrats on your diorama success - it was the unexpected scale that got you there and a great idea. Hopefully they photograph it well enough to do it justice.

Luke\'s entries were both fantastic. My pick was his eldar entry, but you never can tell what the judges will go for sometimes, in any case, he deserved the sword with one entry or another. I\'m getting scared about the level of entries to expect all round next year, it just keeps getting better.

I hope I can, it was kinda sad to not be able to enter this year.

Good luck to your sisters, SirJD :)

Thanks guys for the feedback. Seeing as no-one else has posted pics on this forum yet, I thought I\'d start...

I\'ll try and add as time permits over the next few days.

Unfortunately, my pics have been resized after I uploaded them, despite being 600pixels wide and less than 200kb, so the resolution is not as good as I would have liked...
