Old and new sculpts. Which style do you prefer?

@Sophia
Dying is really not necessary! lol I would love to paint those! I was just a bit concerned they were totally HUGE, but they seem to be of quite a decent size. I prefer painting things that are at least below 15 cm (about 6 inches).

@generulpoleaxe
Should I have posed a more convoluted question? ;)

Welcome back, just to say I love the two new sculpts and just as soon as my credit card payment clears, in about 4 days I am going to order both of them.

I\'m the proud owner of the \'old\' treeman, and I say I like him much better than the Tree-woman...although I can see the sculpting is much improved and techinically better, it just doesn\'t appeal to me. I would like this if it were human sized and more of a \'dryad\'...but when I think of a Treeman, I think of a monster, that if it stood still, you\'d never know.

I do however, love the new Giant. The bloated one has its charm, but that new one is downright fantastic.

Those last two look incredible!! Ritual would do a fantastic job on those. I may have to reconsider my New years resolution of not buying any new miniatures!

Oh, and welcome back! Good to see you are still at it.

Vike, just think of her as a 54 mm (72 mm?) dryad.
lol
And you knew that resolution wouldn\'t last.

Well, I\'m not an expert painter so the new treewoman will be too hard for me. The old giant and treeman would be okay for me.

Positively beautiful work I love both the old and new versions. The giants are so distinctive and the old tree-man is perfect for gaming while that wonderful tree-lady is a perfect display piece. I would suggest making them all available since they all have their own charm and appeal. I could certainly see someone wanting to get all four.

Keep up the fantastic work can\'t wait to see those demons they are comming along amazing.

Good Luck:)

Cool models! The skin on the giant is a really nice touch, and the Dryad style Treeman-person-lady-thing is really nice too. The studio one with the twigs and all is a good idea. I might have to add one to my Wood Elf collection sooner or later (sadly probably later). I\'ll keep my eyes out for the alt version, empty hands/fists or even the good old tree whack club would be nice.

The old giant is fun and a little cartoony. He\'s good, but I do prefer the new giant with his range of textures and tragic character. I like both the treepeople for different reasons. You are very talented and do interesting work!

Hey Sophia, welcome back. I really like all the sculpts you have put up in this thread, each all have their own character, and your sculpting skill seems so diverse, that shows in the way you can sculpt cartoon style mini\'s as well as more expected mini\'s if you get what i mean.

when i have some money and time i think i will invest in that giant, and the deamons are looking like a must also.

Do you do commission sculpts?

Thanks a bunch for all the input everyone. My old Treelord on my shelf keeps yelling at me \"put me in coach!\". I should listen and get some cast up as he is a gem.

I actually devalued my old miniatures since I figured people wanted more realistic and gritty stuff but I think I was half wrong. This is a great discovery as I now have more value and appreciation for my old minis. Now I am wondering if it would look weird with my old cartoony miniatures and my new gritty ones in the same store?

I am not taking any commissions as I am really trying to get Ultraforge fleshed out with at least a dozen miniatures. I now sculpt at least a little something everyday. Pretty much wake up.... tea.... throw in Lord of the Rings dvd.... sculpt... walk dog... sculpt, hehe

I don\'t think there is anything wrong with having the two styles sitting next to each other and from a marketing standpoint it would be far easy to concentrate on one brand.

I was considering giving the Treeman a hand resculpt. I find his hands a touch flat. I was thinking about giving him more of an Edward Scissorhands kinda feel by making each finger a sharpened tree blade. That way I can give the hands a little more depth as now my casting methods are more sophisticated. I could also give him a new base with tree stumps and more skulls like the Treewoman perhaps?

The older treeman looks more like a \'treeman\' if that makes sense. The lady looks like the incarnation of a woodland goddess or spirit to me. I prefer the older one, but your sculpting on the new one is spot on. Alternative hands would be good.

New giant is excellent - was never keen on the old one.

Top stuff!

WOW....That\'s easily the most beautiful and convincing dryad type I\'ve ever seen! Fantastic sculpt.

I tend to agree that the giant looks like a kid who grew up actually eating all his veggies and drinking all his milk rather than being particularly gianty (made that word up all by myself.) That said, it\'s still a great sculpt as are they all. I guess what I\'m trying to say is that without a 28mm for reference, he\'d look largely like a slightly out of shape guy with a penchant for sticking popscicle sticks on his knees. lol

I love em all, but the tree woman is by far the best.

Simply gorgeous!

Those are really very impressive. I would love to use the tree woman in a GW wood elf army. I\'m afraid she\'d be too large, however.

Sculpting mystifies me.

Yours are particularly fantastic. Well done!

In an effort to be totally unique here (NOT!). Both styles have their charms, and given that they are in what amounts to be totally different styles, I cannot in good conscience make a choice. I think you are going to have to send me copies of each, let me paint them, then I will give you a full report in a year or two.lol
