OCD or strange painting habits?

Okay, im a little bored at the moment, so I want to see if others in this hobby have strange painting habits!

I think everyone can be a little OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) when it comes to painting miniatures! :)

Just wondering if anyone has those strange \"rituals\" or things you just HAVE to do when painting a miniature.

For example, here\'s a few of mine:

When I paint a space marine (And I have painted well in excess of a four-digit amount of them) I have to paint the backpack first. I have no clue why, but I just do, and I cant paint one any other way.

When I assemble models on \"Slottabases\", I always have to glue the base so the slightly larger side is towards the front.

I sharpen the back ends of all my brushes in a pencil sharpener.

There\'s just a few of mine, although im sure there are plenty more habits of mine that are a bit unusual. lol

So, what strange habits does everyone else have?

I always clean my palatte before starting a new mini. Don\'t know why, I just do. Then I paint the center over with a single color, and after it builds up so far, I peel it out and make a tiny \"paint frisbee\". I recently just finished a mini and am getting ready to start a new one and I did this just the other day, so I snapped a quick pic....

1) makes sense since any basing treatment should be most visible from the front of the mini.

2) if you don\'t do this, how else can you accidentally stab yourself in the forearm while painting? I know a bloody, splinter-filled wound is always a highlight of MY hobby time.

and i thought it was just me!!

seriously, why?!!

everytime i paint a model i have to rush it and end up wasting hours of prepping by giving it a crappy paintjob!

Only hang up I really have is I need everything else done before painting. Work, Ironing, cleaning etc., almost like some odd backwards procrastination I guess. Get stressed if \"wasting time\" with better things to be at.

i dont really have eny ocd with minis i dont think.... altho i will admit to always putting the bigger side of the slotbase to the front but thats just because it centers the mini better...

Rarely do the slotta base thing anymore as i just cut it off and pin it to the base.
I always paint/make the base first then pin the mini but not glue, then paint the mini. Its always just been a preferred way.

Hehe, some interesting things here!

Duende, I have done that paint frisbee a few times before, too. I prefer to call it a novelty flying disk, since frisbee is trademarked. :) I actually cut it into a rectangle once and made it into a banner for a miniature, just to prove I could do it.

I have no clue as to why I sharpen the back ends of brushes, always have done, always will. Recently it helps me identify them as mine when I paint with friends, but before I would just sharpen them for no real reason!

Hmm, so to start, the first thing I have to do is eat and spend some time with the wife before painting or sculpting because once I sit on the desk, I am a chained slave, won\'t even answer the phone...

Before I do something I have to clear out the desk. For example before I paint I have to put all the WIP/conversion stuff to the side oh and on top of that I put one mini per 1 square on the cutting board (2 squares for cavalry so on), that besides putting all the tools away. Before I sculpt or convert, I put all the paints away in a case and all the minis in the same manner as above until finished... also when I have a WIP that is priority I leave everything as it is for days, even weeks if I had a certain idea for it, this helps me not forget.

I always use a fresh wet pallete paper sheet for every mini. Even if I paint several within 2 days or so.

I can not wear a shirt... dont ask...

I lick every single brush I will use before I even start painting to inspect the points... that on top of all the rest of the brushlicking done while painting...

I paint with headphones versus radio... it keeps me more focused...

I cannot paint more than one mini at once... don\'t know why, while I can assemble/convert about 3 or 4 at any given time... weird but I just can\'t!!! I HAVE to finish one before I can start another one... I guess thats what takes me so damn long...

yeah... OCD\'s are my world and specialty, I think I got more than rituals than I have painted mini\'s  ...

I know, you guys want to be like me now...lol

 The only thing I do before painting is let the dog out......nothing worse then hitting a painting Shangri-la, then discovering a pair of sad brown puppy eyes looking up at you. “I got to go mama”

Two requirements - no, three. In the morning there must be a BIG jolt of caffiene in the evening a glass of wine is nice and during both there MUST be cool tunes.

Hmm painting habits...?

EG. I know I have a lot of NON-painting weird habits - like I cant eat tic tacs in odd numbers - and there has to be an orange one and a green one if I have those ones...

But painitng...?

Does being crap count? lol
I dunno - I do the thing with the bases, but as mentioned that makes sense. Have to think about it lol
