New GW paintpot (pic)

I\'m pretty confident that I\'ll be sticking to Vallejo. I can\'t really see that this is a great improvement really. It\'ll probably encourage the paint to dry out even quicker once it has paint crusted around the lid. [cynicism]Then again, if the paint drys up quicker, it needs replacing sooner?[/cynicism]

Good news for the GW addicts

But I still do not see one single good reason to prefer these paints to Vallejo. So why bother?

I can\'t make out either what sort of a seal there is (does it block the air) or what sort of hinge (flexi-plastic like the old lids will break over time) is there.
From what it appears though they expect folks to paint directly from the pot or at most draw paint out with a toothpick onto a pallete.
I suppose you could pour but that\'s so hard to control volume and avoid getting paint to coat the rim, ruining the seal.
The one advantage GW has maintained is stackability.
The comment about soft plastic v. hard reminded me of something. To have a dropper, whether the vallejo type or the andreas type, you have to have \"squeezable\" plastic. GW didn\'t go there.

GW paint\'s made by a French company and W&N are English! Maybe someone\'s been telling you porkies?

Well, yeah! :rolleyes

In the days before Vallejo droppers we all had to draw paint from paint pots somehow or other! And strangely enough, we still have to do it today. I use my paint brush seeing as no one has designed a special implement for the job!

:D

I like to use a syringe intended for refilling old printer cartridges. Obviously don\'t use one that\'s been used, or if you really really have to, wash it out loads before you put it in your paint.

Similarly, I believe W&N have a manufacturing plant in France where the labour costs are cheaper than England. They might also have one in Spain, which is where all the \'good\' paints come from, so it could be possible the paint is made by them (the GW brushes are certainly).

It says made in England on W&N paints though! Or maybe that\'s just the label.

I think gw is gonna make us to pay more and more every time for colors that are always worse than the previous one. They always do the same.
I hope I will not have the reason
???:(

Sturm, I\'m not saying that your wrong or I\'m right, or that they aren\'t made in the UK, I was merely pointing out the fact that the GW paints could have been made in France, if they are licenced to W&N for manufacture, rather than the W&N \'Finity\' artists range they also produce.

Its more likely the W&N artists acrylics are made in the country of their intended sales, but if they produce OEM products for other people, perhaps they choose to use cheaper labour costs; you never know, I\'ve seen some paint that\'s been made in India and its bloody awful stuff, but its cheap to produce :(

Research, that\'s easy......

They obviously didn\'t ask anyone if they used the inks they\'ve now dropped, or the colours, but they add new ones, based on what market research?

What market research would they need beyond a few years sales figures?.... I\'ve had my inks since about \'95 and only replaced one, chestnut .... Doh!

Ha ha ha lol! It\'s the labels that are made in the UK! I reckon three pensioners in an Old Folks Home sit down day after day with a hand-press, rolling out the labels for W&N...and they occasionally slip different words into the descriptions/colour names. For example:

Willy Red (no. 23)

Willy Pink (no. 612)

Willy Purple (no. 44)

Willy Willy (no. 1)

I could go on, but I think I\'ll stop for the sake of remaining a member of this site and also avoiding the flogging of a dead horse.

But just imagine the UK operation plant! Just THREE old people!

:D lol :bouncy:

New GG pots OK, but not great.

Finally got my hands on a few of the new GW colors and consiquently a few of the new paint pots. I really like their new tanned flesh color. Makes a good flesh shade. I\'m pretty disappointed with the new pots however. Guess I\'ve gotten spoiled by the Valejo dropper bottles. I have been slowely migrating my GW paints to dropper bottles. I did discover that the labels on the GW bottles come off in one piece with a little bit of patience and can be stuck back on the new dropper bottle. Makes it so you don\'t have to write on the dropper bottles to keep the colors straight. Well, that\'s my cent and half anyway.

Don\'t go and tell them they\'ve done something useful for a change!!

They will be using \'anti-tamper\' labels next or supergluing the buggers on.

You think I\'m joking don\'t you......lol

The lids on the new paint pots are somewhat stiff, but they\'re a bit softer than the previous lids so they should form a better seal. As for getting paint out? You do it exactly the same way as the old school GW pots... when you shake the paint it collects in the flip top a bit, and you can dab some off with your brush without plunging into the abyss.

I\'ve picked up some new colors to play with (Catachan Green is lovely, as are the more neutral earthy colors... it\'s about time they made a couple colors that weren\'t so bright) and they are looking pretty good to me. Their Terracotta is a cool shade that I might use on my longterm planned Beastman/Nurgle army. Nice dark fleshtone hilighting material.

Oh, and I do know the horrors of labels coming off... my newish pot of black (old lid still, they didn\'t have new ones yet) was sealed so damn tightly that the sticker came off before the lid gave way... that\'s one sticky paint pot before I covered it in duct tape lol

Haven\'t had that happen in years though... some paint musta leaked into the grooves the first time I used it. Usually it\'s easy to see and get it out but hey black blends in with black pretty well so maybe I missed it :D
